I’ve always been the brother with a plan. It’s not that I stood out that much. Raised by a Marine father and a kick ass Marine wife, our life has always had a sense of order to it. I like that. Plans don’t fail. You fail to plan. Only, I didn’t plan for MJ. She’s a hard-headed physical therapist who’s taking care of one of my buddies, and she rubs me the wrong way. And by rubs me the wrong way, I mean, I can’t get her out of my mind. I always knew about the Santini Curse , I just didn’t know it would drive me to chase a woman. She tells me she doesn’t have time for romance, and definitely not with a man who wears a uniform. She agrees to a simple affair, but nothing beyond that. But she’s never dealt with a Santini man in love, and remember I’m the one who plans everything. And the only plan on my schedule is proving to MJ that loving a Santini might not be easy, but we are definitely worth the fight.

I love reading novellas and when an author can deliver a whole story within less than 100 pages, then that makes me a very happy reader. Melissa Schroeder definitely did that with Leonardo. Despite its shortness, the author delivered a whole story with Leonardo and I couldn't be more of a satisfied reader. This novella was loaded with lots of fun dialogue, humor, sexiness and plenty of charming characters.

I think what won me over with this story was the characters. Leonardo was just the *sweetest* guy ever. Like seriously. Oh yes, & very sexy too!

"As if conjured out of her thoughts, she saw Leo walking down the hallway. She couldn't fight the little sigh that slipped from her lips. There was nothing like seeing a military man, dressed in his uniform, striding down the hall like he owned the place. Just seeing him made her heart do a little tap dance."

I also loved how he romanced Maryanne in the story and his sweet ways with her. In addition, I loved Maryanne. She had sass and was a feisty heroine. I really adored her character and liked the fact that she didn't constantly push Leo away even though she did have reservations about getting involved with him. Their chemistry was nicely written and it there was plenty of sizzle between these two.

I loved the writing style, the author's voice along with the great cast of characters. Leonardo was a great read & I enjoyed every minute of it. I definitely cannot wait for the rest of the series. I want more of these delicious Santini men!

"Good lord I don't know why I like you."
He gave her that lopsided smile that always gave her a jolt.
"But you do. A lot."
She swallowed, trying to remember to keep it light.
"I'm not so sure now."
"Really? Because you screamed my name enough times to make me think it had something to do with liking me."

I love all kinds of romance, in particular military stories. If they feature gorgeous hunks who have special skill sets and lots of brothers – in arms or blood, well that makes it so much better! Add a strong determined female lead and some conflict or issues and fireworks galore – both in and out of the bedroom and you definitely have a recipe for a great read!

Leonardo is the first book in a new series, The Santinis by Melissa Schroeder who is already well known for her Harmless and Harmless Military series among many others. I was provided with the ARC of Leonardo for a frank and honest review, so here goes. The cover of Leonardo is so sinfully sexy and drool worthy. That alone is enough to make you want to pick up the book. When you do start to read, it isn’t like Melissa’s other military stories, but boy it is still hot and sexy and a great read.

In Leonardo, we meet the first of the Santini brothers, Leo. He runs into Maryanne Johnson when he goes to visit his friend who is recovering in hospital and undergoing rehab. The dragon in charge of Jeff’s rehab is Maryanne and when Leo first sets eyes on her, he is floored. She isn’t the dragon he pictured, rather she is quite the opposite and he recognizes that her bark is much worse than her bite.

Add a few hilarious run-ins and misunderstandings, where Maryanne manages to get the upper hand and the cool and usually unflappable Leo Santini is rather at a loss. I enjoyed the fact that Leo was floored by a scrap of a female, but he didn’t let that get him down. The Santinis and the Johnsons are both military families and this is what has forged all of them and helped them become who they are and also influenced how they behave and for some it has caused some issues. Leo and Maryanne are no different.

Leo uses his military know how to wear down the ‘enemy’. He makes a plan of attack and goes for it. Maryanne on the other hand, despite being military doesn’t seem to like military men all that much and it is obvious that she has some issues that hark back to her childhood, her upbringing and the fact that her family members are all in the military, well apart from her and her grandmother who helped raise her and her brothers.

The interaction between Leo and Maryanne is sweet and hot and sexy at the same time. Leo is like water dripping on a stone and he worms his way into Maryanne’s heart before she even realizes what is happening. She loves that he sees her for who she is and also that he takes the time to really get to know her. Add to this the fact that the sex is super hot with beautiful sensual fireworks explosions in the bedroom and elsewhere and everything is wonderful, until Leo says the LOVE word.

The fight that ensues after this is heartbreaking for Leo, Maryanne and the reader. I could feel Leo thinking that everything had just gone south but that he had done all he could at that point and really felt for him. I was also angry with Maryanne for rejecting such a special guy, but on the other hand I could also understand her insecurities were driving her to be that way and that there were obviously issues that she had to work out. Can Maryanne work out her issues or will she lose Leo? What happens when an angry and upset military mama is on the warpath and gunning for Maryanne?

This story is a great start to the Santinis series and I cannot wait to read about the rest of the clan. I also hope that there might be a possibility of spinoffs featuring some of the Johnson siblings because they sound like very interesting guys as well. If this story is any indication then this series is going to be another one well worth reading! Well done Ms. Schroeder!

I have been fortunate to get to read this novella before release and I must admit when I heard that Mel Schroeder was writing a new series, I was excited because I knew that like many of her stories this series was going to have sexy, funny and totally loveable characters with endearing tales of love and possible woes.

Leonardo does not disappoint. This is the first of four novellas about the Santini brothers – each brother is a member of one of the forces. Leonardo, his friends call him Leo, is a medic in the Army and stumbles across the luscious Physio therapist, Maryanne, MJ to her friends, when he catches up with a buddy in hospital.

As soon as Leo sets eyes on the cute MJ, he knows he wants her and will do anything to make this beauty his and to get her to admit that falling for a guy in the military isn't a bad thing.

This novella is a quick, fun, sexy read and has all the elements that you would expect to get from a Ms. Schroeder story. Leo and Maryanne have both been brought up in the forces and there is a sense of strong family ties on both Leo and Maryanne's side. This is where the humour comes in to play, the over protective brother that is guarded of his MJ going on a date with an Army medic and the super hot, sexy and extremely funny Vince Santini who loves to wind his younger brother up especially when he flirts with his potential love interest.

I really enjoyed this introduction to the Santini brothers and I am definitely looking forward to reading each of boy's stories and hopefully each novella will keep in tempo with this first instalment by giving us glimpses of the other brothers as they meddle into each others lives.

I have just been purging my kindle of a lot of the unwanted free stuff that is clogging it, and other than taking the time to read the blurbs in GR, which I also do, a lot, the process starts with discarding all the excessively cheesy, questionable, dodgy or downright horrid covers or titles. So far so good, I have managed to delete about a thousand over the last couple of weeks, which makes me question why I add them in the first place.
I will blame https://www.bookbub.com/home/ and their daily emails. But it was this elimination process that brought this story to my attention: cheesy cover, could I be bothered in finding out what lies behind?

But judging a book by its cover is obviously not very fair, as I have EVEN found a couple of times pretty decent stories hidden behind covers using "sans comic" fonts, an unforgivable faux pas that should send them immediately into oblivion, but I am digressing.

This one had one of those ubiquitous "sexy" covers depicting a well built torso with a six pack and no clothes. Or face. I am sick to death of these covers. They actually make me want to puke. They are completely unimaginative. Derivative. Uninspiring. Whatever. However the story behind it was quite good: short, uncomplicated, quite sweet with a little bit of steam and minimal drama. What I did not like was the very abrupt ending, which left me wishing for a few more chapters.

I think since the stories about the remaining Santini brothers are also in my kindle, and have been subjected to the elimination process, I will be tempted to read them too before deleting them.

I'm happy I discovered this author

Leonardo was the perfect escape from the heavy stuff I’ve been reading lately. This is the perfect beach read. Who doesn’t want to relax on the beach with a sexy Army guy who isn’t bringing the military drama to the pages? Leo brings a sweet romance with a witty gal to this fun and sweetly sexy read. There was no major conflict, the villain with nefarious plans is missing, no need to gather the teammates to rescue the damsel in distress. All of those factors lead to a completely new and different read for me. I enjoyed simply reading a man and woman falling in love and the shock of figuring out what to with that.

I loved reading Maryanne. She is sharp. She is the only girl and the baby of four Marine men raised by a Marine dad. There is no room in that mix for a weak and timid woman. She is made of tough stuff. MJ is a physical therapist who does not coddle her patients. She pushes them the way they need to be pushed. She wants them to leave her feeling whole and ready for life. Her interactions with Leo are highly entertaining. He keeps her on her toes, leaves her speechless, she never knows what to expect out of him. They were a fun read!

I have to admit I think Joey may very well be my favorite Santini and I do hope to see more of that one in the future Santini books. Readers are also briefly introduced to Vincente. He is similar to his brother Leo when it comes to entertainment. Apparently these Santini men come with ample personality.

* Each book features a different service and a location where Mel was stationed with her husband.*

Leonardo (Santinis #1)
Author: Melissa Schroeder
Release date: May 3, 2013
Review by: W. Jackson
I was gifted this book for an honest review:

Leo Santini is a man who always has a plan. It is the way to live a well-ordered life.
Maryanne Johnson doesn’t have time for a romance—especially with a military man.

This is a Quick Sexy read, that I couldn't put down. I Love that Melissa Schroeder is doing a series with all the military branches. There is a part of the book where she says that "Military Brats" either go one way or the other, you love em or you run for the hills. Being a "Navy Brat", I completely get this, and started laughing, because I love a man in uniform. If you are a fan of Melissa's other work, then you will love this book. She weaves a story that makes you fall in love with these characters.

The only thing, some people that read this book might not understand, is the Acronyms she uses (without explaination). If you grew up in this enviorment you know these things, but your average person may not. (example: CONUS (Continental United States)) so this aspect may confuse people if they do not know what they stand for.

I loved this book and can not wait for the next.

The start of the Santini Brothers series definitely left me wanting more! Leonardo opens the series as a Army medic. While this is a short novella, the characters were well developed and it also gave us a glimpse of future characters.
Leonardo managed to win me over by his caring side. In his story, Leo was determined to win over the heart of Maryanne, the physical therapist of his injured friend. He took the time to get to know her and showed her things she didn't want to face within herself. It wasn't a rushed love story.
Maryanne had to learn to open up to Leo based on her past and the beliefs that have been set in her mind.
The wonderful thing about Melissa Schroeder's writing is that she allows you to understand the world of military life. It goes through the different worlds. Maryanne is a civilian dating within the military, but she took advice from her granny who was a military wife. The views of acceptance were different and that shows. It makes the story more believable and enjoyable.
I truly enjoyed the story and can't wait for the remaining books in the series.

This book had an expected HEA, sexy military men, a strong bossy woman and a little bit of angst. I really enjoy military men and books about them.

Melissa Schroeder's next Santini brothers' book will be about Marco, and set in Hawaii -- where we were stationed off and on for 15 years :-) I'm looking forward to it!

These books have HOT covers!! MMMM-mmmm

I love stories where the men are comfortable with themselves that they can be the romantic caring alpha man. Leonardo fits that bill!

Leo Santini joined the army after living a life as a military brat, but under the marine arm. He had a dream early on to be a medic and figured the army was front and center in the action that needed medical help. So he ditched college and dug in. We don't see him in his job during the course of this book unfortunately.

The story opens with Leo visiting a friend in he hospital who was injured during battle and comes face to face with a hardheaded physical therapist. He is put off by her attitude, but totally attracted to her that he overlooks her hard edges.

Maryanne Johnson I used to taking care of everyone and never allows anyone close enough to take care of her. Her mother passed away while she was young and growing up with a marine for a father wasn't easy going, let alone all the brothers who also became marines. But one constant was her grandmother, who eventually moved in with them to help raise Maryanne.

With hard edges keeping her protected, she tries to put distance between Leo and herself, which Leo won't allow. His kisses, patience, and sheer romantic side that sees past all her insecurities, is grinding down her resistance.

The story is short, but the timeframe passes in weeks. So while we don't see everything that happens to them, we do get time for these two to grow closer. I didn't feel rushed into a relationship, which I appreciated.

Here is the biggest part I loved about this story: Leo! He comes across as strong, trust worthy, alpha, hardworking, and fun. Yes, fun. He is romantic when needed, but also he sees past the barriers Maryanne puts up all over the place. Taking the time to learn about her, he knows he is in love early one, but can't tell her or she will freak out. I just adored him and want to meet the rest of these men.

We meet Momma Santini, and all I will say is you don't mess with Momma's boys!

Full of Italian heritage, wild hot sex, a salute to restaurants Melissa misses, and a visit to the zoo, I can't wait for the next installment in this series!!!

I was so excited to learn that Melissa Schroeder, one of my favorite erotic authors was writing a novella series about four hot, Italian, military brothers. The first novella follows Leo, a military medic. While visiting his friend in the hospital he meets Maryanne. The two of them are instantly attracted to each other, though Maryanne does think that Leo is stalking her, and those scenes were hilarious!

Leo isn't the stereotypical Italian male portrayed on TV or in books, and I liked that about him. He was sweet and kind, but also stubborn and hard-headed. He loved his family and he loved his country. He was passionate about what he believes in, but he also knew how to have fun. I loved how much he cared about Maryanne.

I think my favorite character was Leo's mom. The fact that she wouldn't allow Leo and Maryanne to be alone in his childhood bedroom with the door closed was so funny! It is definitely a classic Italian mother thing to do.

I can not wait to meet Leo's other brothers, Marco and Gianni. We got to meet Vincente in this novella and I am excited to see him again. He seems like he would be a lot of fun!

"Meh" is the word that comes to mind with this one -

Characters - meh
Story - meh
Romance/sex - meh
Writing - meh

It was really just one of those super quick reads that didn't really give you much of anything. It was such a short read that the characters were not developed enough for you to understand properly or love. The story had the premise to be quite good but again being such a short book really never evolved or went anywhere. Frankly, I was bored and had it not been and 90 page read I probably wouldn't have even finished it.

I feel it's important to point out that when I purchased this book I did not actually realise it was a short story as I do not like them, I need a nice well developed romance to keep me hooked and have never reacted well to shorter books or novellas, therefore it may just be me that felt that way, you may in fact be a big fan, it just didn't do it for me.

Leo Santini is an Army medic newly assigned to teach in San Antonio. While visiting a friend in the base hospital he meets physical therapist Maryanne Johnson. He is captivated from the first time he meets her. She is a tough as nails military brat with a heart of gold. She has been burned by military guys before will Leo break her heart too?
When Leo finds himself in love with Maryanne he will do anything it takes to make her fall in love with him. Even if it means he has to listen to his mother.
This is the first of the Santini brothers series by Melissa Schroeder. Each brother is in the military but a different branch. Leo is in the Army. I must admit being partial to the Navy but that’s okay because Marco is coming out next. You can’t miss with a Melissa Schroeder military man.

I'm on a military romance kick right now and I absolutely loved this book!!! I have been (not so) patiently waiting for this book since Mel announced the series on her Facebook page. Leo was instantly loveable and quite irresistible. He is strong, in the military, stubborn, sexy, and funny. Maryanne is just as stubborn and is extra determined not to fall for Leo. Leo is persistent enough to continue to find ways to show Maryanne to give a relationship with him a chance. Leonardo was funny and full of sweet moments between Maryanne and Leo. I can't wait to meet the rest of the brothers and see what is in store for this group of military brothers. Fortunately we won't have to wait long because Mel plans to release them very close to one another!

I was gifted this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book I have read by Melissa Schroeder and it definitely won't be the last! Leonardo, is the first book in a series of novellas about love and life in the military by Melissa Schroeder. The story is well written, hot and romantic.

The story begins with Leonardo Santini meeting Maryanne Johnson when visiting his army buddy in the military hospital. Leonardo is an army medic and Maryanne works for the hospital as a PT. Both Maryanne and Leonardo are children of the military and devoted to their country. Attraction between the two is immediate and a relationship is imminent.

The novella tells their story of love. It is emotional and hot. If you are looking for a quick, spicy romantic read, this book is for you!

Ok, so lately I've been allowing myself to be seduced by books with sexy covers and I am finding myself unhappy with the what's between said covers. My own fault I know, at least they've mostly been free.

Physical therapist Maryanne is a former army brat who works at a military hospital. Army dude Leo comes from a mostly Marine family. Maryanne is so unlikable it is completely unbelievable that Leo should be so attracted to her.. She's crabby, mean, prickly and just a big ole bitch. She supposed to be covering for her own insecurities blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, but she doesn't have a real reason to be so disagreeable.

In addition, there are multiple abbreviation/acronyms that all military background type people understand but since I'm not, I didn't know what any of them stood for and the author didn't provide a glossary.

I can't recommend it at all.

I just got this book in ARC format from the author and I could not put it down. It was wonderful. I feel in love with Leo and the whole Santini family. I can't wait for Vince's story. In this book you meet Maryanne or MJ and Leo and Leo is a dream. Maryanne is a tough physical therapist and Leo a medic teacher. The attraction is instant but MJ does not want to get involved but Leo pushed his way way into her life and heart with love and tenderness. Its a great story with lots sweet moments and some hotness thrown in. Best of all I love that both characters families are very prominent in the story.
A really great read and one you won't be able to put down.

This is a little different then what I have read from Melissa Schroeder before. And I like like it, it's fast paced but not so fast that story line suffers. She takes you by the hand leads along a lovely hot romance as MJ fights it every step of the way. But Leonardo is not having it.

This is an entertaining romance between Leo and MJ. The author packs a ton in this quickie read bringing a fun banter along with a smokin hot chemistry. MJ does her best to stay away from Leo but he's determined and won't be denied. I loved watching them come together and enjoyed reading their story.

Right off the bat I felt “at home” with Melissa Schroeder’s Leonardo as it is set in my hometown of San Antonio. In addition I spent a lot of time at Ft. Sam Houston as my Mom was civil service for many moons so I know BAMC, I know the Riverwalk, I know Live Oak, and I know the HEB on 1604…it was like going home. On top of that Melissa manages to capture the spirit of these characters in a novella which can be a challenge but by the time I was finished with this story I felt like I really knew them, that they are actual people I could possibly meet.
Leonardo Santini is the second brother of four. He’s an army medic, now teaching (training) other medics. He grew up in a military household and it’s what he knows and what makes him the person he is. You know right away that his family is everything to him and that he worships his Mom. He also cares about his friends and he’s at BAMC checking on a recovering friend when he meets Maryanne.

Maryanne Johnson is dedicated to her career and her physical therapy patients. Growing up with a Marine father and four brothers who are also Marines, she’s vowed to not date another military man. Thing is no one have ever prepared her for a Santini and a Santini on a mission is hard to resist especially when they bring you lunch from Rudy’s.
I read this book from start to finish because I just couldn’t put it down. I love that Maryanne is tough as nails on the outside but Leo brings out her squishy inside (the one she tries to hide from everyone). The fact that Leo sees the real her from early on and likes that she’s tough and can take care of herself makes me love him right off. It is easy to appreciate how much effort Leo puts into wooing her and how much he notices that she likes it (even though she won’t admit it). Their chemistry is off the charts and the fact that they have to wait for a short while to act on it made their first time together that much more explosive. I enjoyed how flustered they both were when they realized their feelings for one another and admire that Leo knew he needed to dial it back so as to not send Maryanne running. While they still had some trouble, I can’t help but crack up at the fact his Mother ordered Maryanne to fix it. Truly proves who really runs a military household!

I like that both characters are military brats, I think that gives them both a unique perspective on their relationship. The fact that they are both close to their families makes it nice and I can’t wait to see what is in store for the rest of the Santini men and am already hoping we’ll see the Johnson men get their stories told as well. While this is a novella, I felt enough time passed to make their relationship feasible, the characters were fully developed, the intimate moments were extremely well written, and I love that the author didn’t botch up the location. She was spot on proving she knows the town and did her homework. Well done, Mel…well done!

4 hot Santini stars!

I liked this one a lot. It’s well written, fast paced and the characters are likable, AND there’s a bunch of hot military men, hell yeah!. First there’s Leonardo Santini, the hero of the story who serves in the army teaching medicine. He’s hot, alpha and totally sweet too, oh and he has 4 brothers who also serve on the army, in different areas and we get to see a bit of them… well actually just one of them, Vincente, but their interaction reminded me a lot of the Mayson brothers from the Until Series…

”Leo looked at his brother. “Go away”.
“So rude. Mom’s not going to like that when I tell her”. He smiled at her. “I’m her favorite”. Then he walked away. No, sauntered away. That was the only way she could describe that walk.
“He is not mom’s favorite”.

Then there’s Maryanne, the heroine, a physical therapist who serves in an army hospital too, since all her brothers and father are in the military too, we see a bit of their interaction too and it was totally fun…

"He knocked on the door. He heard some rustling and then the door opened wide. It wasn’t Maryanne. It was a man, as tall as him, with dark hair and a rather pissy look on his face. He had apparently been sleeping.
“What?”
“Jackson Michael Johnson, is that the way you greet someone at the door?” Maryanne asked from behind the man. Of course, he could only hear her. He couldn’t see her with the massive roadblock in the door.
“I was sleeping, MJ” He saw a hand reach up and smack the man on the back of the head.
“Damn, MJ, do you have to hit so hard?” He stepped aside.
“Do you always cry like a little girl?” she asked.”

When Leo and Maryanne meet, he doesn’t like her so much ‘cause she’s though with her patients, but everything is just a cover up, she really is a very thoughtful person but being the little one in a household full of military guys, she learned to hide her soft side. She’s not very used to guys treating her kindly or trying to romance her, so when Leo acts like this, she’s pleasantly surprised and scared, since she knows it will be easy to fall in love with him and she’s scared he will break her heart…

“Maryanne?” She looked at him and blinked.
“You never call me MJ.” Not really a question, just a statement of fact.
“Yeah. You aren’t MJ to me. You’re Maryanne.”
She studied him for a second then her gaze softened. A lump rose in his throat that turned out difficult to swallow. She leaned forward to brush her mouth over his, not closing her eyes the entire time.
“What was that for?” he asked when she finally pulled back.
“For seeing me differently than anyone else does.”

A wonderful story to read with sweet and hot moments, and the glimpse of the second book, Marco’s story, looks promising!.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Leonardo is the first brother we meet in Melissa Schroeder's new military romance series, the Santini's. In this new series, she is introducing us to four brothers, the Santinis, that serve our county. Well, if Leo's story is any indication to this series, sign me up. I am hooked.

Leo is a medic in the army, stationed in San Antonio, Texas. While visiting a friend in the hospital, he meets Maryanne. Instant chemistry. I loved Leo's personality, this is the kind of guy every girl dreams of meeting. Maryanne is just spunky and holds her own to Leo. Her strong female characteristics make her funny and loveable, I found myself cheering this relationship on.

The story is a novella, and yes, I wanted more to this story but I still fell in love with Leo and Maryanne. They had instant chemistry on the page and their story was perfect!
