This is like a friendly happy children's bk not expressly targeted at children. Perhaps its main purpose is to present Jen Cooney's drawings but Caldwell Linker's text makes the narrative clear. Creatures, Folk Faces, & their pets live happily in the forest - but, at 1st, they're only 1-of-a-kind & have no friends of the same ilk. Eventually this changes & the Folk Faces live even more happily than ever. A simple tale w/ fun characters. Cooney's drawing style reminds me of Edward Gorey's but I'm happy to say that it's w/o the morbidity that pleases Gorey fans & annoys me. Given that I know both these folks somewhat I cd read into this that it's a tale of lesbians finding each other but that doesn't really seem either implicit or explicit in either the text of the drawings so, for me, it's just a tale of creatures in general finding other like-minded creatures in general & enjoying & appreciating the results.
