I want what every book-loving housewife does—a home that cleans itself, a loving husband, and a Beauty and the Beast library. For a long time, I’ve been happy to settle for a home I clean, a husband, and a couple bookshelves crammed with used paperbacks.
After picking up Melanie Richards’ How to Turn Your Husband into Your Book Boyfriend, however, I don’t know if I’m so content to settle anymore.
When I discover divorce papers in my husband’s desk, the rising action begins, and the book my friend tells me is absolutely and completely a satire no one in their right mind should listen to might just be my last resort.
Low self-esteem isn’t going to stop me from finding my main character energy and turning this around.
How to Turn Your Husband into Your Book Boyfriend is a second-chance satirical romance with plenty of humor and plenty of heart. Each book in this series has sensual description that is ultimately closed door/fade to black, minimal cursing if any at all, and a swoon-worthy love story. Please reference the reader expectations after the title page for specific details.
Camilla Evergreen is an alias of USA Today bestselling author Anne Stryker. Originally intended as a dumping ground for all things lacking fantasy, Camilla/Anne came to the shocking discovery that writing sarcastic, chaotic romcoms full of quippy heroines and adoring heroes has a kick to it.
Camilla/Anne’s neurodivergent tendencies leave her hyperfocused on writing sweet and sassy romances from dawn till dusk and lending whatever her current creative obsessions are to her characters. From arranged marriages to falling for the boss, there’s lots of love to go around.
Very adorable. Some great advice. Some great moments. At least one obvious innuendo between a husband and wife. This is a fun clean novella for this series. Definitely enjoyed.
CONTENT -🤬: none -❤️: fade-to-black scene (between a married couple), mentions of sex, some innuendo -⚠️: low self-esteem
I'm not entirely sure how to rate this book. It was a quick read, and I always enjoy Camilla's writing. I didn't love the generalizations that all men are slobs and unobservant, etc. I guess it just had me thinking that I'm really glad I didn't marry a manchild who needs cleaning up after, etc.
Super fast read, but cute! Two stars only because it was so short, I didn’t realize how short until it took me only 40 minutes to read the whole thing lol so I kind of felt unsatisfied, I loved the idea for the plot and honestly think this could have been a fun full length book.
Synopsis: Brooke’s marriage is a little cold and she believes that one ‘self-help’ book will help her out. Until one day she finds some documents she didn't expect it.
Includes: ✨Marriage in Crisis ✨Bookish Themes ✨Second Chance ✨Single POV ✨Plus Size FMC ✨Miscommunication ✨Girl falls first but the he falls harder
🌶️Heat Level: Quick Fade to Black Innuendo Attraction / Tension:🔥🔥🔥
My Opinion: This was a very interesting read. I love the humor at the beginning of the book and it's a quick read. But the story didn't keep up with the humor and the characters aren't that likable. I loved the representation of being overweight and how relatable she was for being insecure, even with a man who loves her body (I love curvy FMC who are confident, but this is more realistic *unfortunally*). I liked the book, but I understand that some people may not and I love the writing, so I will definitely read more from the author.
TW:Low self esteem, Poor Body Image, People-Pleasing
3.75 stars is what I want to give this book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨
“Our favorite books are the ones that make us forget we are reading. They’re the ones packed with the smallest details that drag us into the most beautiful worlds.”
I felt a little called out reading this book. 🤭 The best friend’s relationship, with MFC’s bff trying to talk some sense into her was very reminiscent of my bff and I. Yet again, I love Camila Evergreen’s writing style and highly relatable and realistic female lead.
I remember seeing this book on Goodreads and I was like oh would u look at that, this book sounds right up my ally and I wanted to read it and how happy I was when I received this book for free when I signed up for Camillas newsletter ,extremelyn
Honest I loved it, I love how raw and real her characters feel I can't explain it but it has this homey feeling to it u have to read it to understand
The way this book was so quick it should be illegal ,this book was so good it just left me wanting more and more
I loved the quotes in this book everytime I started the chapter it was just 😫✨
This book starts with Brooke wanting what every book-loving housewife does—a home that cleans itself, a loving husband, and a Beauty and the Beast library. For a long time, She has been happy to settle for a home she cleans, a husband, and a couple bookshelves crammed with used paperbacks.

Brooke struggles with low self-esteem and insecurities but it was so nice to see a book character have real life struggles Brooke had amazing character development though out this book though it is a romance book it also focuses on her learning to love herself she shows us that it is possible to be married and still be insecure about yourself
I absolutely adored the book references how she would compare her world to book world
The swoon in this book is crazy like when I tell u I was kicking ,screaming, blushing sweating ,over heating, because of this book its ridiculous I loved Aiden he portrayed the book boyfriend so frickin' well had me blushing like hot tomatoe
This is Fade-to-black, has innuendos, no cursing ,sensual description

“How to turn your husband into your book boyfriend” by Camilla Evergreen ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thoughts✨ This was just the fast paced, quirky, sweet rom com read I needed. The title peaked my curiosity, but the story hooked me. I zoomed through this (it isn’t a long one but it packed a punch)
Brooke is adorable, loveable and relatable. I love a fellow bookish girl. You couldn’t help but root for her and her cute as can be love story with husband Aiden. My only frustration came from the miscommunication trope that hung over our couple! I always find myself yelling to the characters to just communicate for goodness sake!
I am looking forward to reading more of this series. Definitely recommend if you love rom coms or are a bookish girl yourself who is just looking to turn her husband into a book boyfriend. 😉
Adorable novella about a wife who has become disillusioned by her relationship with her husband… or rather the lack of one.
Aiden is a decent guy, but he is a one-man tornado of clothes left on the floor, shaving hairs left in the sink and half the bed left unmade day after day. Forget the last time they really kissed beyond pecks on the forehead or got intimate.
Still, booklover Brooke is shocked to find a divorce form hanging out of his desk drawer.
Reeling over the shock that her husband, whom she is still in love with, wants to leave her has Brooke turning in desperation to a book she firmly believes is self-help (though her best friend insists it is satire). The odd thing is that when she tries out some of the tips they seem to possibly be working.
So what happens when you try to turn your husband into your book boyfriend? Well, we the reader are treated to a sweet tale of how miscommunication can lead to the wrong assumptions and how sometimes reality really is better than fiction.
It’s a fast read- less than 2 hours, so it’s a great title for filling a quiet afternoon. I discovered the author from her paranormal romance series, but this was a charming enough piece. I’ve never been one for everyday romance really, so it didn’t 100% hit me in the feels, but I think I may try another of her modern romance stories and see where it takes me.
I got caught up on all of my ARCs and had seen some posts by this author in a Facebook group earlier this week. I thought she was quite funny and when she provided us copies with this novella, I promised to read it this weekend.
It is a quick read, even for this slow reader. Seeing that this was my first book by this author, it took me a little whole to get used to her writing style. She is very witty. Sometimes almost too witty. I'm amazed by authors with the talent to come up with so many humorous lines. But sometimes it feels like being at a comedy club rather than reading a book.
But judging this book for what it was supposed to be, I think the author pulled it off well. There were some stronger innuendos than I'm used to in most of my romcoms, but it did stay closed door.
I do have some other ebooks by this author on my Kindle, perhaps I'll read another one after I clear off some that have been on my TBR list for awhile.
An amusing read depicting a married couple that have gotten into a rut. The stay at home wife, Brookes is a plus size insecure lady and her accountant husband, Ian has been getting away with doing no chores at home. She also finds divorce papers in his drawer and she is instantly worried that he no longer loves her. Brookes reads a self help book and she hopes that by following the instructions therein that she will improve her relationship with her husband. The results are humorous and several parts did make me smile. I really liked her BFF very much and it was a cute read. Ian was a really nice guy and most of their issues were because of their lack of communication.
The concept of this was exciting, a marriage in trouble with a curvy heroine who is using a self help book to figure out what is going on with her husband. Brooke is a house wife and depends on Aidan to support them financially. He annoys her as she has to pick up and clean for him at home even though she ha reminded him to do this and that. The last straw is when she finds divorce papers in his drawer. This was 92 pages (which I thought would be a quick read) but it felt very draggy, the heroine was neurotic and avoided the issue. I thought this could be sorted in half the number of pages.
A pretty cute book that plays around with romance tropes. It was frustrating that the whole book was a miscommunication trope. But it was also hard to not see myself in these pages. And it was nice to see a plus size character that did have self confidence issues and that she was able to work towards overcoming them.
Super short. Super correct and a lil too on the nose for this people pleasing wife 😒 I don't wanna solve my problems through growth (😒) and communication (🤢) and giving the benefit of the doubt (🤮). I want my fantasy man (or beast or whatever) to cater to my insanities and red flag me into HEA! Is that too much to ask?!?!
Absolutely loved this book! Adrian and Brooke were ADORABLE! It was so sweet to see them come together! I loved that they were both flawed people, trying to do their best and loving each other anyways. It was surprisingly relatable (But of course I’m a bookish home maker, married to an accountant 🤭)
2.5 stars This was…not my favorite. I got annoyed with the FMC because she flipped out instead of just investigating her situation. I’m thankful this was a free book, because I would have been really disappointed otherwise.
Nope. Definitely not for me. Man bashing by a neurotic housewife with low self-esteem. Got this free when I signed up for something or other. Happily deleted from all my devices and not likely to read anything by the author again. Not impressed.
Cute book! Granted I’m not married, but this book does show what married ones go through, and even some single ones at that when they are looking for a marriage mate. The bottom line: open communication starts at day one and never ever stops.
Communication. Communication. Communication. It makes all the difference in any and every relationship. Aiden and Brooke discover how much of a difference Communication makes in their marriage when they finally have a serious, vulnerable conversation.
Super cute read! It’s funny how she was getting all her ideas to save her marriage from a book that may or may not have been meant to be taken seriously.
This was a cute short story. I think the author could definitely flesh this out into a full book if she wanted. There's lots more I would want to explore with the characters...
Yikes, this was terrible! Glad I only lost like an hour of my life to this book and not longer. The title alone made this book have so much potential! And it just wasn’t there at all.
