Debbie Macomber calls KNIT TOGETHER the project of her heart. Whenever she speaks, her theme is don't be afraid to dream. God created us for a reason, and when we come to recognize our deepest longing, we can discover His plan for our lives. Full of encouragement and divine empowerment for women, the book centers around the Bible's assurance that God knits each one of us together in our mother's womb. Debbie deftly weaves her own story throughout the book, using the knitting theme of her most recent bestsellers to create metaphors that explore God's handiwork in creating us for a purpose.

I am currently about halfway through this AWESOME book. This is my first, but NOT MY LAST book I've read from Debbie Macomber. What a delightful author. She begins the book as a testimonial of sorts by speaking about her dream of always desiring to become an author. She also spoke of the FIVE YEAR STRUGGLE it took her to become published. Imagine, this wonderful lady struggling to get published....whereas now...I wonder how she manages to the struggle to stick to the schedule she must have to in order to publish as many books as she does per year. After her first 100 published books, my goodness, you would think one would lose count! Amazing. And that is what she goes on to speak about in this remarkable non-fiction book. She certainly mentions her awesome relationship our mutual love and gratitude for our Savior and Lord - Jesus Christ and of course she credits Him and Father God for ALL her success and for all the peace she has in her life. I admire her discipline to get up at 4:00 or 5:00 AM daily she said and she spends AT LEAST 3 hours morning with the Lord in Bible Study, etc. - no matter what - because of her dedication to Him and to her knowing that she knows that ALL HER SUCCESS AS AN AUTHOR TO HIM...(OF COURSE THIS IS WHY SHE SPENDS THAT TIME, I BELIEVE SHE WOULD EITHER WAY..In fact she did for the 5 yrs prior to becoming a published author I believe.) BUT SHE GIVES HIM THE GLORY WHICH IS DUE TO HIM....FOR HE SAY'S IN HIS WORD.... "THE LORD is the One who enables a man (or woman) to work and earn wealth. Think about it in this way, it is the GLORIOUS GRAND CREATOR HIMSELF that is responsible for gifting us with our vast imaginations. For as she is an author of mega amounts of fiction as well as several non-fiction in addition to a knitter but almost as amazing as her writing is her baking and cooking....she has many many cook books containing her OWN recipes she invented! WOW! Unbelievable. So this is what is available to you in her books and THIS BOOK tells you how to GO AFTER YOUR DREAMS!!! She also speaks of her love of family, knitting and of cooking & baking as I mentioned already. Besides all of this, this book is so practical. She is a coach...speaking to me...(or you, the reader) encouraging us to seek our dreams! But not just in an inspirational sort of way as to when you put the book down you say to yourself, "Oh self, how lovely...now what do I do?" No, she provides, her beginning, middle and the now where she is now in her career...her daily writing schedule, (when she began - the middle years and now,)....and as I said it contains some VERY PRACTICAL TIPS as to how to begin to goal set, and go on and achieve your dreams and is thus far it is so through that I now have a notebook full of 1, 2, 3's and A, B, C's etc. (It's a library book - Oh, how I long to have enough money to purchase this book.... :() but irregardless, I will be referring to my notes often, and at least I can go and renew it again and again. I have fell in love with her writing style and every day as I close my/the libraries book, I think, "Oh what a fabulous friend she would make my Lord." Oh, and by the way, did I mention again that the book is 218 pages long and I am only on page 91. But I think you get the gist. If you have a long held dream and want a wonderful woman who will be a coach who seems to be "right there with you, Debbie and her book, "Knit Together: Discover God's Pattern for Your Life" is the Book for you, Christian or non - Christian! Oh, and as for me, a 49 yr old woman who has always wanted to write a auto biography of my own life, Barbara has finally inspired to take the notebooks filled with a lifetime of notes and start putting them together and begin. NOW THAT'S A GREAT BOOK! Thank for reading my review. And hey, God bless you all, and if you read her book and you have a dream, I really really hope and pray that you and I together will achieve our dreams! (If Debbie persisted...which she certainly did after multiple multiple multiple multiple rejections - she just kept sending out her book copies and she finally after 5 yrs got published and now has over 200 books or more I think (?) then YOU and I can most certainly achieve our goals, right? Amen!!! God be with us both. IN JESUS NAME. Amen...... Be blessed. Shelly
In her 1st non-fiction book, Debbie uses her amazing story-telling and intimate relational writing we're so accustomed to, to open up her heart and share her life. She does so in a way that makes me feel better and more hopeful about mine, with practical advice for moving forward and finding the pattern God has for me. Interwoven with scripture, it is encouraging and full of moments that poked my brain and hugged my heart. I am recommending this book to all my girlfriends.
Oh my gosh this was amazing I downloaded the audio version thinking this was a great summer read. I was so surprised. It was about how Debbie got started and how her faith plays such an important part of her life and how it relates to all relationships. She also offers great advice on how to incorporate gratitude prayer love of others and blessing of others into your life. I just went on Amazon and bought a hard copy for myself. I'm thinking of getting several as gifts. This book is so worth it for the advice and the wisdom that is shared in it.
A motivational book can be welcome. If you can get past the moralistic tone of the reader and the one-way-to-go-through-life attitude of Debbie Macomber, this book offers inspiration for young writers. Macomber found guidance through the biblical path. Through persistence and determination she found her readers and a publisher who believed in her. I found that even if a young person doesn't subscribe to all biblical assumptions, the core values and guidance Macomber follows still apply no matter what spiritual path you choose. I enjoyed it and hope some young readers find inspiration.
Assigned to read a book by Debbie Macomber for my book club, I chose this and was astounded by how much I enjoyed it. Macomber must be a wonderful woman, a Christian in the best sense of the world. I had the sense of chatting with a wise, warm grandmotherly figure the entire time I read it, and ended feeling like I could conquer anything if I just try hard enough and remember God's hand in my life.
I enjoy Debbie's fiction, but this is my favorite Debbie Macomber book. It's honest and engrossing - shows what a truly humble and giving person Debbie is. And the message is so uplifting. If you're looking for a good book to give someone special this might be it.
a great book to remind us that God does have a plan for our lives and that it is up to choose HIm, and in so doing - choose the path... It was also just what I needed to remind myself that my timeline is not necessarily God's. I listened - and it was great road listening..
In this book Ms. Macomber recounts her move from Roman Catholic to Protestant, from humble beginnings to accomplished author, from thinking of God as an angry God, to seeing Him as a loving God. She shares a lot of positive thinking and the goal of all of her books is to have a positive effect on those who read them. She shares that people have been made by God to have purpose, passion and warns us to be flexible, and shares the valuable necessity of humor in our lives. One place in the book, she recounts reading a secular book that talks about having a thankfulness journal. So she started one, and lists 5 things daily that she is thankful for. She says she took the good - the journal idea- and left the rest. There are some things to glean from Ms. Macomber's book here as well. She borders on purpose driven theology and some Scripture taken out of context, however her faith and her love of the Lord an shine through the book.
While I enjoyed this book, I can see it wouldn’t be to everyone’s taste. It is based on the author’s belief that God has a plan and, if you trust in Him, all will be well.
It is a very simplistic, Faith based, tenet. My problem with that is, if your life is truly awful (imagine poverty stricken children and adults all over the world, and yes, even in the US) how can that be God’s will? How can God look down in this earth, see a few people with more wealth and trappings than they could use in a lifetime, living next door to those who don’t know whether to pay rent or buy food.
I think of this now, in 2020, when the world has been stricken with Covid-19. So many hard working people will lose their jobs, their homes, their lives. And, while ordered to “stay home”, so many of these God fearing people continue to gather, on mass, in churches.
I am a church goer; I do have faith in God; it’s people that bring me to my knees in despair.
This is a wonderful self-help book that comes from the soul & gently, encouragingly speaks to the heart, one friend to another. There is supportive guidance suggestively offered, not preached. The author takes the reader's hand & walks beside that reader. She does not pull or push. By the end of the book, the reader has had the unique experience of finding a new friend with whom that reader may have endless visits by just reopening the book. Each chapter can stand alone as a separate, short visit on a single topic, or re-read cover to cover for a deeper discussion of several life subjects. I am grateful I had the pleasure of reading Knit Together. It is a keeper - a reference book for my future endeavors.
This is such an inspirational book. It’s beautifully presented and filled with encouraging words and testaments from the author. It was hard to put down and I paused several times to share her words with others. I had a library copy and I’m adding the book to my collection. It’s just that good.
If you’re nestling a dream within or struggling to find the when and how regarding your purpose; this is for you. If you’ve been trudging along faithfully and you’re losing steam this is your resting place and the balm you’ve been waiting for. Dive in and drink deeply. Taste and see. He’s faithful.
I liked this author, and thought I’d be more interested once she mentioned her struggles with dyslexia. Then she started talking about how she was newly Christian because she became a Protestant after being raised Catholic as if Catholics aren’t the original Christians? Anyway, she then goes on to tell how you know what purpose God made you fo because you will have a passion for something as well as the talent and it’s what you were made for because it will come relatively easy to you, unlike the poor souls who wish they can sing on American idol....I DNFed shortly thereafter.
This is the third non-fiction, faith-based book I've read by Debbie Macomber, although it was the first she'd written in this genre. I liked her other two, so when I saw this at the library I figured it would be good - and it was. Whether or not you feel the need to make a plan to follow your dreams, the book provides a blueprint for being successful that is helpful for anyone. It's motivational and offers a spiritual perspective. Easy to read, warm and friendly, with valuable advice.
This is a short inspirational book that I found a joy to listen to, with a source of encouragement in both the creative and spiritual aspects of life. It offers insights into time management, suggestions to help protect physical and mental wellbeing, and a boost to follow one’s dreams in a healthy way. This is a great book to help one get back to what’s important in life! Perfect for when life has threatened to swallow you whole.
I enjoyed hearing the story Debbie tells in her book. The second half of the book was my personal favorite, as it moved into more lessons and held more wisdom there that I felt was applicable to the reader's life. The first half of the book told a lot of her personal story. Her summary at the end of what we were all created for has gems of knowledge in it. I hope others read this book and feel the warmth of her writing and the love she put into writing this.
This book arrived in my life at the perfect time. I was visiting my library's bookshop when this book fell off of the shelf and literally hit me the head. God sure got my attention. It is not just for the Christian writer but this book spoke to me because I am. Absolutely wonderful account of this very successful author's journey.
I adored this book. I loved learning more about Debbie and God's purpose for me. It gave me some great ideas of things I'd like to change and do better in. I feel she was so honest in this book. Hearing about all the times someone told my favorite author, no. It gives me encouragement to just keep trying, praying, and finding joy in life.
I didn't know anything about this book since the first time it came to me, I bought it wrapped (cause that's the theme mysterious book bundles) but when i start reading it, I'm so grateful to have this book in my life... As follower and a dreamer, i also love sewing and i have the desires to write... So I'm happy that it applies everything to who am i.
I truly enjoyed this very inspiration audiobook. I loved hearing how Debbie Macomber came to be a writer and her history. But most of all I enjoyed the inspiration to follow your dreams and lean on God.
Im really glad that this was the first book of mine that introduced me to Debbie's writing. Im really in love with her stylee. I'm so happy as an aspiring writer, i love sewing, im a Christian, Debbie is too. So i could totally say i can relate to this book 100%
This was a nice, friendly, gentle exploration of my favorite psalm. That made it a good read for a busy December. I struggle with dreaming, hoping, and setting goals, so the parts dealing with that subject were helpful
Wasn't a simple read and agree with i thought it would be. Some meat to chew on, so i purchased a copy of the book to work through. Good food for thought or pondering while stitching
