After years of living in her beautiful sister's shadow and losing countless boyfriends to her, Carrie Lockett cannot believe that hunky Shane Reynolds could really fall for her!
Carrie has a twin who is prettier than her and always gets the attention and the boys. Then hunky Shane Reynolds comes along and seems to like Carrie better. So what should Carrie do? How about whine and accuse him of cheating with her sister? Throw tantrums? Act suspicious? Be angry because he bought her painting? Yeah, let's do that and then let's have him fall in love with her whiny ass anyway, because, well, I'm not sure why. But she will definitely fall in love with him because he's so cute! And rich!
Sadly, I see this was written by Debbie Macomber, who is a very popular author and whom I have never read and feel less inclined to try to read after experiencing the glory that is Harlequin Pink manga (printed in flirty pink ink!)
Did I mention - Puke!
If you want to read a good manga romance (shojo) then check out Honey Mustard or Spring or Emma. If you want to read crap manga romance, then check out Harlequin Pink. Blech.
Honestly, if you are expecting a fantastic piece of work, this is not it. I came into this getting exactly what I thought it was. It's a light, chick-lit type love story. Not overly complex, with a little drama and romance. It's an illustrated romance novel. Fast and sweet, it sated my cute-romance-that-ends-well needs. The story wasn't to die-for, but I liked the telling and the illustrations were nice. You want high romance, go read Lady Chatterly's Lover. Otherwise, this is good for a quick bit of guilty pleasure light reading. Cheers
this book was a literally hallmark movie but in manga form i.e. it sUCKED. characters with no personality or only one personality trait, rushed romance that makes no sense, cheesy cliches, main character randomly forgiving people who don't actually deserve it instead of calling out her sister fOR BEING A WENCH THOT. also the guy she just fell in love with stalked her. what the frik. i estimate divorce in 1 year. thanks debbie macomber, we really didn't need this
I actually really liked this. For a Harlequin, it was surprisingly relatable. I think that anyone with siblings has been compared to eachother at least once. This was a nice story overcoming those comparisons.
Carrie is an artist. She paints wonderful paintings but she is so insure. She is in town an her sister Camile is the beautiful one. Shane is an architect who loves Carrie's paintings. He buys one that she has done of her sister, Camille. Since he seems so enthralled with that painting She does not think she has a chance of competing with her sister so she becomes rude to him to push him away.
Carrie really likes him but is afraid that she will lose him once he finds out about her sister. That seems to always happen to her.
I really enjoyed this book and could not put it down. At times I didn't know whether I should laugh or cry. Check it out for yourself. I think you will enjoy it.
I started to listen to the, audio book and it was so awful I have up in a disc 1/2. The heroine was a talented painter but because she had a beautiful twin, she was completely insecure. when a terrific man bought the painting she did of her sister, BECAUSE HE LOVED HER STYLE AND COLLECTED HER Paintings, she PRESUMED it was because her sister was so beautiful. But did she tell him it was her twin, no. Though she was completely in.crush with him, and all evidence pointed to.him liking her for who she was, did she believe him. NO. So she decides to introduce him to her sister and get it over with. That is when I quit, I could take it no more.
I'm still not sure if I liked this story in the book "Finally YOu". It was just not believable and I wanted to reach in and smack both lead characters in the head and tell her, Carrie, to grow up and stop being so unreasonably jealous of her twin sister. Shane wasn't believable either. I just can't see any man trying so hard to get a woman to love him. He was charming, handsome (according to the story), and very rich. Why would he continually go after a woman who treated him so badly? Just not realistic. That's why I only gave this story a 3-star rating. Sorry, Ms. Macomber.
Carrie is an artist with a glamourous twin sister whose portrait she has painted. She is commissioned to paint a portrait of Shane who has bought the portrait of her sister she is loathe to tell her sister that she has feelings for Shane as previously her sister (Camille) has persued men Carrie was interested in.
An early Debbie Macomber. I felt the theme of competition with a twin sister was over kill leaving the Main characters one dimensional. A Sunday afternoon on the patio read, escape from all that is nagging ant me in the era of COVID-19.
I didn’t expect this book to go the way that it did. Pleasantly surprising. Nice enjoyable light reading with some twists and turns. A lovely young artist with angst over her beautiful twin sister whom outshines her in beauty but doesn’t hold a candle to her anywhere else!
This was given to my by a friend. I am not a fan of romance books in general and this book is the epitome of why. Shallow shallow characters, completely unbelievable...drivel drivel drivel.
Carrie believes no man would love her or find her pretty once they meet her sister. Shane has loved Carrie's painting for a while. Both lacked communication skills to speak what's on their minds.
I shouldn't admit to liking this book as much as I did but I loved it! It was a quick and fun read. But that is not why I liked it so much.
Carrie has always been compared to her sister Camille. Everyone always told Camille she was the prettier of the two and all of Carrie's boyfriends have always left her for Camille.
Carrie draws/paints and sells her items. Carrie pants a portrait of her beautiful sister Camille and puts it up with her friend for sale. When she meets a handsome and award winning architect she gets nervous especially when he buys this portrait of her beautiful sister. Will history repeat itself? Especially when he mentions that the portrait is of his dream woman as he displays it prominently in his office and then later in his house.
Like I said I probably shouldn't have liked it as much as I did but I did!
No Competition was a read that is quite different from all the harlequin books I’ve read.
Carrie had a twin that is prettier than her and had a complex about it. She had been told ugly compared to her twin that even though she was successful and dresses up she still feels inferiority to her twin. She believes that once someone sees her twin they will eventually pick her twin, Camille instead of her.
I didn’t like the relationship Carrie had with her twin even though they talked it out in the end. I still didn’t like Camille through the end.
I loved this story. It wasn't only happy but it has so much truth to it.Carrie is a down to earth person that always douts herself, something everyone does, and has to be told by others how great and beautiful she is. Not only does her sister find happiness but so does she. It's a cute happy, down to earth romance.
My taste for graphic novels is not quite there yet. I admit I was a dork and kept reading the story out of order. I also had a difficult time knowing when something was said out loud or in a character's thoughts. Some of the pictures did not match well with the dialogue. I remember thinking (kind of often) why does that guy look angry/ look like he's shouting? Huh?
In Macomber’s romance novel, Carrie is a reclusive but gifted artist with secrets she wants kept to herself. Local architect Shayne Reynolds collects good art but what he really wants to collect is Carrie herself. While attraction blooms between them, Carrie rejects his advances even though her heart would very much like to say, “Yes.”
wow what a book just got reading this called No Competition by the author Debbie Macomber. I got this book from stepmother for Christmas I'm a big fan of the author I love reading all of her books. I would have to give this a 5 star rating. I would recommend this book to everyone I know.
Well, I finished reading it, so it is a 2 and not a 1. Had this been a regular book, and not a short, easy to finish graphic novel, I probably wouldn't have bothered.
Found this on my old bookshelf while visiting my parents and gave it a quick reread. This book couldn't be more girly and sickenly cute! It really was a harlequin-esque story in pink manga form.
This was a cute book to read. Carrie sure had an inferiority complex about her twin causing her not to enjoy life. She finally overcame it when the right man came into her life.
Quick read but it was like reading the insecurities of a 13 year old girl but trying to be made to believe they were true life for a gorgeous 30 year old. Very unbelievable and annoying.
