Sean Long is Super League's No 1. bad boy, and when it comes to off-the-pitch madness, no one comes close. Here, the flamboyant St. Helens superstar tells his hilarious, shocking, and explosive life story—packed with amazing tales of booze, brawls, sex, and scandal. The only player to win the Lance Todd Trophy three times tells the inside story of that bet against his own team and exposes secrets that will shock the rugby league establishment to its core. In his own words, he describes with startling honesty the hellraising experiences of his rag-to-riches journey. But it isn't all about his wild reputation—Long has also had an incredible rugby league career, winning every major honor in the game at club level as well as notching up 15 caps for Great Britain and another five for the England side. He has twice set the Super League record for the most points scored in a season, with 284 in 1999 and a staggering 352 in 2000. Not just for rugby league fans, this book is a must-read for anyone with a taste for life on the wild side.
Coming from St Helens where it's tradition to love rugby league, this was a must read & a really interesting, open, honest account from one of the best players to pull on the Red V for Saints. Highly recommend, it is sincere, concise & extremely amusing.
In our wonderful town of St Helens where we live and breathe our rugby league, this is a must read for any fan, not just of Saints and rugby league in general.
The first chapter of this book was worth the price I paid for it. The two funny stories he writes had me in stitches reading them. Unfortunately the rest of the book wasn't as laugh out loud funny, although in parts I did have to laugh. This is the tale of a bloke who enjoyed his rugby and enjoyed having a laugh even moreso. It covers his betting scandal and the early exit from the Australia tour from his own perspective.
Quite possibly one of the worst written books of all time. Yet Long is honest and at times bone stupid that it carries you along despite the nature of the prose. If you dont like Rugby League you may still enjoy it but i would check my brain at the door before i started it.
Hardly literary genius but I didn't expect it to be. A collection of stories not written in any order. It's like chatting to a mate whilst having a few beers. An enjoyable read for any rugby league fan.
