Clever and crazy!
Satan's Shorts is hilarious! I haven't read Clovenhoof yet but I didn't get lost, this is so fun with something crazy and clever going on every page. I can't wait to read more!

I'm not a big fan of short stories however I did enjoy this. A decent prequel to starting the Clovenhoof series.

I seriously enjoyed this collection of short stories featuring the deposed King of Hell, now known as Jeremy Clovenhoof whilst on Earth. He is totally clueless how things work and it's a comedy of errors watching him trying to interact with humans. He's like a very naughty 14yo boy (he's quite obsessed with his genitals!) and even though he has juvenile moments you can't help giggling at his antics. He's made friends with Ben and Nerys, who think he's more than a few sandwiches short of a picnic, but they're always there to back him up.
There are additional shorties featuring Heaven and Hell and while not quite as funny as Jeremy's tales there are LOL moments.
If you are looking for a light hearted, funny book that you can read in short munches then you can't go wrong with this offering.

So funny. I wish they'd write more novels featuring Clovenhoof. These short stories were fun though. Definitely check these out if you liked Clovenhoof.

Whizzed thru this in an afternoon cos I was missing Jeremy, Ben and Nerys after finishing both the novels. Very entertaining bite-sized pieces. More please!

So another series from the authors of Oddjobs and in this case a collection of short stories - all with funny and ridiculous scenarios calling upon the characters first introduced in Clovenhoof. Now I will start by saying that I have not read any of the main series (something I plan on correctly shortly) but it does not take a huge amount of work to realise the situation (the introduction pretty much explains it all).
So whats the appeal - well for me its the dialogue and the situations you are introduced to - something I first found and loved all the way back in the days of Tom Sharp. Yes there are many new authors with equally humorous views on the world - but rather it is a light and at times rather uplifting - there is no black criticism of the world we live in which sometimes is all too easy to fall in to (it does after all feel like we are stick on some sort of sitcom at times). True my opinion may change once I dive in to the main series but for now it was a great Saturday morning read

This was funny.
I thoroughly enjoyed the first book about Satan being exiled to a suburb of Birmingam and what we have here are a series of short stories which provide us with vignettes from the same world.
As before this book never dips below the entertaining mark and I often found myself chuckling at the situations the characters found themselves in. Because they are short stories you are never too far from another tale if the one you are reading is not quite up your street.
I find myself liking all the different characters in the book. The amorality of our central protagonist is a wonderful catalyst for all that goes on around him. The snowman story is a particular delight.
In order to widen the scope of the tales there are a number of stories set in heaven as well involving the politics of that. They were just as entertaining as the Birmingham stories and I laughed out loud at a couple of these as well. I want to know more about this area of the world and I note from the descriptions of the next books that aspect is going to feature more in them.
These stories were well written, sharply observed and has enough detail to keep me engaged. It did not take me a long time to read it but all that time was enormously enjoyable.

You could do a lot worse than to try these.

I picked this up after reading Clovenhoof, the first book In the series. I said then that the book felt a little disjointed. This, being a series of short stories works so much better. The stories are all set around the same time as Clovenhoof, and some in fact feel like excised chapters. Being reworked as shorts works for them. Removing the need to link them to a larger overarching story, means they stand on their own as complete works. This makes them tighter, and to be honest funnier.
As with any collection there are stronger and weaker stories, but as with most humour, I get the feeling this will be more down to personal taste. I must however point out a couple of shorts concerning Saint Christopher, as he is demoted, which had me giggling dementedly.
I'm not sure if it would be possible to read this without having first read Clovenhoof, but it's not a huge stretch to pick up what's going on. It gave me a good laugh so in that case, m glad I picked it up.

Hilarious as always. Didn't love it as much as Clovenhoof, but would still definitely recommend it for an irreverent laugh!

This is not really theological but the characters and situations are based on a particular understanding of Christian theology. This is a hilarious anthology, full of shenanigans and a great addition or intro to the world of Clovenhoof.

Last year I bumped into the authors at Edge Lit 4 where they had a table and were selling/promoting their books. It only took me a moment to realise I was going to like these books.......and I was right.
The first book in the series, Clovenhoof, introduced us to Jeremy Clovenhoof (aka Satan) who is now living in the suburbs of Birmingham. He rapidly became one of my favourite comedy characters - it's like sit-com gold, if there is trouble and mischief you can bet that Clovenhoof and his neighbours Ben and Nerys are going to be slap bang in the middle of it all.
Which brings us to Satan's Shorts, a collection of (as you might have guessed) short stories, five of which feature Clovenhoof and friends. His exploits involve going to night school ,dressing up as David Hasselhoff (for wedding entertainment) and his attempts to cure Ben of Arachnophobia. As you would expect, things never go quite to plan.
Add to this tales of Saint Christopher, who has now been demoted from the Sainthood and is now working for the Non Specific Prayer Assessment Unit (a kind of heavenly call centre) and various denizens of Heaven and Hell and what you have here is a chucklesome collection that will have you laughing and cringing in equal measure.

When you're stuck inside with a bad cold while everyone else is out partying, there's no better way to cheer yourself up than by indulging in these wickedly funny short stories. Satan's Shorts is based on the same premise as the full-length novel, Clovenhoof (Satan has been thrown out of Hell for failing to be evil enough, and now lives in a suburban flat). Goody and Grant send up mundane scenarios like night school, shed-building and the church fete, with witty one-liners from Satan and his friends. The Devil has all the best lines!

An excellent read...but read the other books in the series first
I loved this book but it really only works if you have read the other books in the Clovenhoof series. Here we have the return of the Devil himself in the guise of Jeremy Clovenhoof in a series of short stand alone tales. I love the series and these are a perfect quick read full of jokes and laughs as the Devil seeks to understand night school, snowmen and sheds amongst other things. Brilliant

Read this in between Clovenhoof and Pigeonwings!
A good little selection of shorts, a lot of which get alluded to in the main series. I would therefore recommend reading it between books 1 & 2.
Great 'tidbits' of the overall series, and easy to read in short bursts. It's not an essential part of the Clovenhoof books, but if you like them, you will surely be a fan of getting a little extra nosy into their world

Having read the delightfully wicked Clovenhoof, I wanted more Jeremy, Ben, and Nerys stories. This book of shorts not only delivers that, but also tells tales of various demons and angels to boot. My favorite of the lot was Clovenhoof Goes to Night School, but they all had me laughing.
Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

Loved it.
This is obviously a bunch of short stories regarding our favourite characters and even a few new ones.
So funny. I loved the one about the kitten.
Just as always, short stories are never as good as full ones. These are what I had expected Clovenhoof to be, a bunch of random nonsense.
I still laughed my ass off though.

I had read the Clovenhoof books and found myself laughing out loud while reading them. This book of short stories about Clovenhoof and friends had me doing the same thing. The misadventures they have together are quite hilarious and explain a lot of the things that are mentioned in the previous books. This was a fun read.

Funny stories
I found the stories funny and fun to read. No wonder Satan lost the battle if he's this inept.
I do wish that whoever proofed read this book did a better job at the transitions in the stories. Your at one place then the next paragraph your somewhere else with no break or anything to warn of a scene change. A little confusing at times.

I have not read any of the Clovenhoof books but after reading this I will.
Although this one is short stories not all featuring Clovenhoof, I thought they were very funny and had me giggling out loud a few times.
I also thought it was well written.
The situations that Clovenhoof got himself into were outrageously silly but just so damned funny. Loved it!

Rated 3 but only because I can't rate 3.5 ;)
All the characters you love, and the very specific sense of humour too. Just not as satisfying as the novels - more a series of jokes told over a few pages each. Good fun, well worth your time if you're a fan, but you'll have chomped through it in only an hour or two.

Here are 11 short stories that bring back the characters from Clovenhoof. I enjoyed them a lot, they were funny and nice distractions from work or good reads on the bus. I also liked the new characters like St. Christopher or The Oldest Resident In Hell. Who is that anyway?

I liked this one, too. It was a little disjointed since it takes place before Pigeon Wings. It jumps around a bit but just adds to the characters of Nerys, Ben, and Jeremy. I still loved being able to jump into another Clovenhoof adventure.

Satan’s Shorts is the third book in the Clovenhoof series. It’s a series of short stories based around the characters in the other Clovenhoof books, and you probably wouldn’t get much out of it of you haven’t read any of the others. It is funny like the others but not as engaging.

Sometimes you're just looking for a good laugh.

Hellishly humorous
Satisfyingly fills some gaps in the Clovenhoof mythos. Not recommended for anyone who takes their religion too seriously. As someone who has worked on phone lines I particularly liked the NSPAU.
