The poems contained in this collection, Winter Poems, by Sabarna Roy were inspired by the relatively mild season that prevails in Kolkata following the season of festivities, the Durga and Kali Puja, and portray myriad shades of human life. Some of them deal with the imaginations of death and home while still others the idea of loss and coming to terms with gradual wasting of life. Many aspects of human life and commonplace human impulses are examined and brought to life through a range of imaginations and varied metaphorical associations. The poems are sure to delight the readers and generate a whole range of emotions among them.
Sabarna Roy is Senior Vice President [Business Development] at Electrosteel Castings Limited, an author of eight Literary and three Technical bestselling books, TEDx Speaker, Champions of Change Award 2020 Winner, Times Excellence Award 2021 Winner in Indian Literature, and Golden Glory Award Winner for Critically Acclaimed Bestselling Author of the Year 2021. Presently, he is writing his ninth Literary work: an epistolary novel, which is likely to be published in the winter of 2022/23.
It is a series of 26 small poems which deals with the idea of loss and coming with terms with gradual wasting of life.
"A shadow is the truest reflection of your soul, Its darkness filled edges tell you a narrative only if you dare to see through its layers"
This is a small book but with meaningful poems where the author reflected upon the tiniest of things such as looking out the window and observing people, and also there were poems bigger things like death. The poet also wrote poems about acceptance in our life and I could feel the emotions in the poems. The second part of this book contained repatively shorter poems and I enjoyed most of them.
While I appreciated and liked the meanings of the poems, my issue with this book was that the writing wasn't poetic, it felt like essay writing at some points. Also a few poems made me feel uncomfortable, but that doesn't mean you won't like this poems. Other than that it was a good poetry collection. Also it's very short and a quick read, so I'd highly recommend it to people who likes to read poetry!
'Winter Poems' by Sabarna Roy is a collection of 38 poems which are divided into two parts winter poems 2010 and 2012 that talk about life, the idea of death, existence, relationships, poverty, emotions, shadows etc.
All of the poems have so many emotions which are conveyed really well by the author. These poems need to be read slowly and more than once in order to grasp the meaning of it.
These poems are written in the form of passages or paragraphs rather than poetry form, which I didn't quite like but the poems are beautifully penned down and it sure gives you a rollercoaster ride of emotions. The poems have a lot of depth and meaning to it that you want to stop and think and reflect back on your life at least once.
Each poem is unique in its own way and the author has written each poem with utmost honesty. These poems through light on the reality of the world in an honest way and keeps you thinking.
The writing style of the author is easy to understand the cover pic is so beautiful and the language and the words used in the poems are really good but could be quite difficult for the first time poetry readers.
I loved reading each and every poem in this book but I like the following poem very much.
"A shadow is the truest reflection of your soul Its darkness filled edges tell you a narrative only if you dare to see through its layers"
Overall it was a great poetry book and I recommend it to every poetry lover.
Looking for a different perspective for poetry is always a challenge, and not just perspective but also to portray it in a gripping manner is a tough task in itself
The book is a collection of thought-provoking poems, divided into 2 parts based on the year they were written. The words stick true to their theme and made me wonder about death and life. From the fear of death to the celebrations of birthday, I gained a new vision through these poems.
Most of the poem made its way to my mind, but there were a few that failed to do their chores, apart from that there were few moments where I believed the poems could be a little more poetic but nonetheless the emotions were conveyed skillfully.
Each poem within the book gives rise to ample thoughts and each deserved to be discussed. Someone I felt few of the poem deserves to be in our textbooks, to make us understand about various aspects of life.
The writer got the inspiration for these poems from the city of joy, Kolkata. The pages have the aroma of Joy from Park Street, the dense fog from Harish Mukherjee Road and many more.
I would recommend this to people who like to read about death, life and other range of emotions that have the power to provoke something that has been buried deep within humans.
//Extract from the book://
"The gaiety that you find in birthday bashes are an ode to nature that allowed you to live a year longer than you deserved! "
"It was agonising to ponder that, book of love and loss and magical happenings born out of years of unrest could at all be lost for all the time'
"It is a happy day Happiness - will you stay my way?"
Book review 💯📖 ⭐ My Rating - 4.5/5⭐ The book " Winter Poems " is a poetry book written by Author Sabarna Roy
The book Winter Poems is a collection is poems written during the winter days of Kolkata. This book is divided into two parts where in one is Winter - 2010 poems which consists of 12 poems about life and death. The second part is Winter - 2012 poems, a set of 26 short poems which talks about mere acceptance if the life we have got to lead. The main topics of these poems are life, hope, festivals, feelings, and most importantly death. As usual Author Sabarna Roy has done a great job in expressing things in a written form in an unique way of his own style. Almost all poems are relatable and it is a very short read, so try this book if you love poems. 🥀The Title and the book cover is apt and it attracted me a lot.
🥀The language of the book is lucid and the flow was good.
🥀The poems were beautifully penned that it seems so realistic and close to our heart.
"Winter Poems" by Sabarna Roy is a collection of poems that deals with some very common themes of life but in a very profound way. This compilation begins with the theme of death and ageing. The choice of words used by the author to express his emotions in all his poems are involving. It will require several readings to be able to follow and acknowledge the beauty of all those poems.
"A shadow is the truest reflection of your soul Its darkness filled edges tell you a narrative only if you dare to see through its layers."
Author mentions in the preface that most of these poems has been written in winter. That explains the title and also the the various themes contained in the book as the word 'winter' depicts harshness, calmness, festive season, the season of lights and love, mourning, death, ending and detachment.
The book is in two parts, first one compiled in 2010 and the second one in 2012. The section of 2010, containing 12 poems, are more of a prose given the form of a poem. It mainly talks about the imagination of death and home. The section of 2012 consisting of 26 writings, deals with the idea of loss and coming to terms with gradual wasting of life. The poems are short but a bit complex to understand in first reading. This book is recommended to all the poetry lovers.
It is a collection of 38 different poems, each poem written on very different topics. Some are related to life, some are related to death and dome on relationships. Each poem is written in such a manner that everyone who will read it can easily relate to it. The book is divided into two parts- poems written in 2010 and poems written in 2012. Poems which are written in 2010 are majorly focused on birthdays lifes and deaths.. Poet has also mentioned about her daughter's marriage. The poems written in 2012 are about wasting and loosing people and things in life. The kind of feelings which make you feel heavy from inside but at the same time leaves you completely empty. The book I actually the collection of emotions of the poet in different phases of life. The words and phrases used are really beautiful and emotional. The poem is written in a very simple and understandable manner. The poems are short and so relatable.
Winter Poems are a bunch of poems. The author wrote this poem in 2 sections, as winter poems 2010 and winter Poems 2012. In 2010, the author wrote long Poems as similar to short stories. In 2012, where the author wrote down small Poems. In this poem, not a single word is wasted. Each word showcase the beauty of nature. Each poem has some emotions. Each poem is written with a deep meaning. A good poetry book.
'Winter Poems' talks about various aspects of life, relationships, foremost important Death and the fear of it. Death is a mysterious and sheer truth which nobody likes; it is a naturally occurring phenomenon of the human life cycle. The poet has explored the nature of death, even talked about their own imminent death.
I extremely loved the cover of this book, simple yet beautiful just like it's poems. The writing style is voguish, vibrant and absorbing. Few poems are rhyming, mostly are blank, free verse and narrative poems. A collection of raw feelings that everyone can related to. It was a melodramatic read for me.
The Winter Poems are a collection of poems by Sabarna Roy which are inspired by the mild seasons prevailing in the city of Kolkata, focusing on the festivities of Durga Puja and Kali Puja.
The book is around 60 pages with 38 poems in it. The collection portrays the beauty of the approaching winters as well as the whole so festival of Durga Puja and Kali Puja. It focuses on how these festivities bring out the best in the city, putting a smile on everyone's mouth.
All the poems are filled with a lot of feelings and made me teary-eyed and smile. It focuses more on the theme of death and ageing. The language and choice of words was excellent and I enjoyed it.
Winter poems is an amazing the collection of diversed poetry. The poet wrote on many topics, some relating to family while other were just simply capturing the subtle moments of life all around. The style was captivating and sure enough it kept me glued til the very end of the book. The themes were sort of a yinyang setting because some of them were gloomy and dark and the rest was light and artful. Throughout the poetry the poet tried to explain that life is not pretty, there are moments where bitter truth is the only answer available and sometimes even a minute of peace is blissful among the chaotic lifestyle.
I haven't read a poetry book that is so intense as this. There are plenty of poems that you can relate to, each one of them will definitely make you ponder because that's exactly what happened to me. This is a short book comprising of few pages but the impact of the words written inside are very powerful indeed. This will definitely be in the list of of my most favourite poetry collection ever.
“Winter Poems” is a collection is poems written during mild winter of Kolkata. The poems deal with various issues are in free flow. Sometimes they rhyme sometimes don’t. That is not important I guess. I am not a poem person so could not appreciate fully. One sample
""They forgot to put my body on fire On freshly chopped logs of wood On oil cracking and boiling They forgot the charm of cotton ball plugs, the sight of wetted white petals of fecund flowers, the absent-minded twirl of smoke chains, incense sticks, the sonorous trail of holy hymns, crackling sounds of earthen pots and above all, the communal mourning around a corpse""
The book is short read but takes time to understand. The language is beautiful.
“Poetry is the journal of the sea animal living on land, wanting to fly in the air. Poetry is a search for syllables to shoot at the barriers of the unknown and the unknowable. Poetry is a phantom script telling how rainbows are made and why they go away.” — Carl Sandburg This book is my incipient towards poems and I think this is one of the best to sow the seeds of poetry. To make it easy and interesting, the book is divided into 2 parts each part having its significance stressing on specific elements. Winter poems-2010 is a 12-poem series which shares the imagination of death and home. The below statements ignite the curio in you to read this collection. “What would the pleasure of living be without the imagination of death?” “What would the pleasure of running through wilderness be without the imagination of home?” Another part, Winter poems-2012 is no less than the previous edition. The 26-poem series showcases the idea of loss and coming to the terms with gradual wasting of life. “Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found its words” The writing style of the author is easy to understand even for people who are first time introduced to poems. The choice of words, metaphorical language, sentence structure, and arrangement, all helped in establishing the right mood and context to the poems. Pick “Winter poems” by Sabarna Roy published by Virgin Leaf Books to experience the crate of emotions of day-to-day life. #teammysecretbookshelf
🙌Synopsis: This is my second book of the author and I loved the abstract style of writing by Mr. Roy. The theme of the book is kept subtle but dealing with quite relative topics of our lives. Many aspects of human life and commonplace human impulses are examined and brought to life through a range of imaginations and varied metaphorical associations. The poems are sure to delight the readers and generate a whole range of emotions among them.
🙌Novelty: Though recently I have read many books on poem but this seems to quite unique in terms of the theme of this book.
🙌Guesswork: The winter poem is a collection of 20 poems covering from birthdays to death and reflection of our own soul. The range of topics covered in this book is quite a highlight of the book.
🙌Language:The language is kept simple and abstract which i really liked.
🙌Final Call: This is a light book while traveling or running errands. If you are looking for a poetry book with some light and realistic theme. Go and read this.
“My new friend-a bisexual gigolo at night and a translator of Tamil erotic poetry by the day hails from a family of clock-maker…”
“they have to use their bombs they say So they bomb the difficult parts of the city night and day. The ghettos look like smashed rotting potatoes Pile of half-fed skeletons of urchins have devastated the topography of the place. The darlings are gone The poker players are gone The drug peddlers are gone They landless, the homeless, the impoverished ones are gone What is left is, us- a cavalry of civilized men and women and fat boys and girls.”
These two poems in particular (the first being a long one so I have just included the starting lines) are my personal favorites. In this collection by Sabarna Roy, which has 38 poems- all untitled- talks about the idea of death and loss and the meaning of home. They also explore the desperate need for assurance that one is still alive and breathing and incorporate within them this sense of world gone haywire. Some of the pieces are longer than the rest and quite often the style of the poems transform midway into prose. As always, and as usually the case with any poetry/short story collection, I enjoyed some poems more than the others. The ones that had fable-like qualities to them or had used elaborate metaphors/imagery were my favorites. For example there is this one poem in particular that I found fascinating which was all about a shop selling shadows of aeroplane flying, Michael Jackson dancing, Sherlock Holmes with his smoking pipe and whatnot. While reading, one can sense throughout the collection, the feeling loneliness and displacement; often the poet/narrator find himself asking if he is in the right place and if yes then why this disconnection. On the whole, I enjoyed dipping myself into the melancholia of this collection.
Winter Poems by Sabarna Roy is a series of 26 small poems dealing with the idea of loss and coming to terms with gradual wasting of life.
"Why do we celebrate our birthdays so pompously when they bring us a year closer to death?"
This poetry collection is potentially remarkable and makes us question the mundane things of a mortal life. Death is the only truth and we swimming in the pool of myth, but hope is all we are holding on to.
"A shadow is the truest reflection of your soul. Its darkness filled edges tell you a narrative only if you dare to see through its layers."
This book talks about fear, darkness and death. Most common things that we know are eternal still we are scared to face them.
Personally calling this book enjoyable isn't actually correct, is it? But the thing is, it's beautiful. The words will hit you no matter if you have lost any loved ones or not. And as the name suggests most of them were written in winter, which happens to be my favourite season.
Every darkness comes with the gift of light. So does this book it will hit you but also will be you understand more deeply.
The author did a really good job at mesmerizing me in the deep compassion of poetry. The writing was fluid and hard-hitting. Definitely not the best one's of his but I really felt this every word. They are so random and not well versed but so impactful at the same time..
If you are into abstract poetry this is absolutely perfect for you to pick up. Definitely recommended.
"You can rarely look at yourself for you do not carry any mirror."
"Death surrounds us in invisible chains, collapsing gradually" The winter poems by Sabarna Roy have given a beautiful insight to our death and life which is mesmerising and you will feel it like ohhh it's so true what's written, it's so real and applicable to your life. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I liked the way the poet has given the details of various situations in expressing the small aspects of our life such as dreams, pleasure, love, stress and many more. The poet has blended gracefully the nature with human life, in his poems nature is depicted as a human life to show that human life and nature are inseparable and nature is very much important to see various aspects of life because what is life, it's also a part of this nature , nature has created us, our heart, our dreams, our life and our death, nature is everywhere and in everything. ⛰️🏞️❤️❤️ Every poems depicts a different aspect of life and death which is melancholy and soulfull with a pinch of supernatural essence to the poems and thus becomes lightful and more colourful. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ It's so strange that we spend our life to achieve some goals in our life but we all know that we can't take our goals and materialistic things with us when we die and the truth of death is what actually is living. Sometimes when you feel low and when life is boring and unfavorable and you are surrounded with disappointments in your life at that time these poems boosts up your mind and make you relaxed because poems are enchanting, they have their own way of magic in this world and in everyone's life. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I loved all the poems because they all are narrating a part of our life,of love, of romance, of death and what is real and what is true.
Name - Winter Poems Author - Sabarna Roy Pages - 62 pages Genre - Poetry Format - Kindle Edition
As the title says itself, the book is a collection of different poems highlight various aspects of life and death. The poems are mainly inspired by the mild season that prevails in Kolkata portraying myriad shades of humans.
Some of these deals with imaginations of death and home while others with the idea of loss and coming to terms with gradual wasting of life.
I really loved reading this book. Every poem is different from each other yet connected with each other in an unusual way. The writer talks about everything, the valleys, winter, complex human relations and foremost important death. The way she describes death, the parting with each other, that line makes us sad but it's beautiful as well. One of the poem related to death that literally shook me was ~ "They forgot to put my body on fire, on freshly chopped logs of wood, oil crackling and boiling". This particular one gave me goosebumps and the surroundings we are living today, it all made sense, I felt each and every line. 💔
Another poem which I loved reading was 2nd one. The author describes two contrasting ceremonies in the poem. One is the loud birthday bash and other is death anniversary of a teeanger. What caught me is this line ~ "Why do we celebrate birthday so pompously when they bring us a year closer to death?"
Honestly saying, I fear death. I always find myself thinking about it that what if death occurs, after that what will happen, how will it come, what will we feel in the final moments etc. I just can't stop thinking about and this poem kinda triggered me to think more about it. But it's all good in the end. I loved her perception about it.
The language Sabarna Roy used is not quite easy, new readers might find it difficult to read for the first time, I myself read 2-3 times, but it's all good in the hood. It's a beautiful book for sure, it makes the reader goes through a lot of emotions. The poems of the book are free verse poetry, they do not follow any meter. She has beautifully portrayed her thoughts and feelings. Will recommend to everyone who read poems, this one is really good. I really don't read poems but this book caught me with its cover only and I had ti read it then. What a beautiful cover it is.
In the end Sabarna has ended the book with this amazing poem which became my favourite of all and which is also the headline of this review ~
" It's a sunny day, it's a happy day. Happiness - will you stay my way?"
This book is of sowmehere around 60 pages is a collection of 38 poems which were created by the fairly significant season following the Durga and Kali Puja festivities in Kolkata.
All the poems have so many feelings and emotions attached that the I truly felt personally connected with them while reading them.
The time on which these poems were written was winter as we all know Kolkata winters are mild and pleasant and winter season in Kolkata comes after festive seasons of Durga puja and Kali.
The language Author used is not that quite hard, new readers might find it somewhere difficult to read, but it's all good in the rhythm. It makes the reader go through a lot of emotions and feel every inch of the lines. She has beautifully portrayed her thoughts and feelings with perfect emotion and language used where perfectly touching the heart.
Name of the book- Winter Poems by Sabarna Roy. Stars given - 5 on 5 stars. My take on the book- QOTD - What's your favorite season? Mine is winter, cause I hate rain and summer's only saving grace is Mango. And also my birthday is in the winter season. This book made me very happy today, a day when it was raining cats and dogs and I ended up resembling a drowned rat. Many a times we feel certain things which we end up being unable to express with the right set of words. But these poems make it's mark. Me really likey.
Another Sabarna Roy book!! The book has two sets of poems. The first set, winter poems-2010. It as 12 poems and all deal with, in author's words, " the imaginations of death and home". Now thats something! As the author says, "What would the pleasure of living be without the imagination of death?"
They are quite different though, got me suprised at places and taken aback at some other.
I'll share a few lines that I've loved from some of these poems sometime. And theres also this one poem where I think I've got an answer personally for a question I always had in my mind-
"Why do we celebrate our birthdays so pompously when they bring us a year closer to death?"
A: "Birthday bashes are an ode to nature that allowed you to live a year longer than you deserved!"
Ohh! This line! It really hit home! So true...isn't it??
The second set, winter poems- 2012 are a collection of 26 short poems. These poems are mostly based on feelings, the kind that leave you empty and acceptance in life where sometimes you really dont have any other choice but to accept and cope up with whats happened or happening, whats lost or whats going away.
As usual Sabarna Roy will give you what you expect of his works for sure. So go shead and give this one a go!

MY REVIEW:-⭐⭐⭐⭐ The cover of the books portrays the poems topic included in book which is very beautiful and title is apt for the book. The language of the book is lucid and smooth and metaphors used in very perfect way. The minus point is during read i don't felt any rhyming as poem it felt like i'm,reading a para with deep meaning. Book is comprised of some sonnets and some sections are in free form. Each sonnets have different story and different kind of emotions inside it. Poem don't start with title but during you can get idea of the topic of poem. The meaning of those poems are so deep and one definitely need a good grip of literature to understand it. Readers will feel different kind of feelings and emotions during read. As some some poem adds the essence of culture, ethinicity, aunthenticity of kolkata and some simply have touched the deep core of our societal problems. It is very short read but one needs time to understand it. Author have great knowledge of language and vocabs. Because of author's writing style it was easy to read and could complete it in one sit. This book shows us how to lead a happy life. Overall, it's beautiful potery book and i'll recommend to all poem lovers💯
My favourites from the book:- The clouds of life are back again and are here to stay I puncture each cloud as I traverse to reach the core of this mass of clouds I get wrapped up by more clouds There are more clouds There are more clouds everywhere. Thank you🌻
Winter poems by Sabarna Roy is a collection of poems with two sections, winter poems 2010 and winter poems 2012.
The poems are characterized in the mild season of festivals, the durga puja and Kali Puja and blended on myriad shades of human's life, death and loss.

The emotions penned are deep and well portrayed.
Every poem is unique in it's own way.
The writing style is beautiful and lucid. The metaphors make the poems more beautiful and rich.
The title and the cover are flawless.
Overall it was a worth reading and can be completed in one sitting.
• As the name suggested “winter poems”, is a collection of 38 poems written during the winter season by the author. • The book is divided into 2 parts: Winter poems 2010, series of 12 poems, and Winter poems 2012, series of short 26 poems. • The poems truly reflect the emotions of the author during winter, the importance of home and family in his life, the imagination of death, and the effects of poverty. • The simple language makes this read enjoyable. The word choices are perfectly suited to the theme of the book and leave a sense of satisfaction. • Though it’s a short read, I recommend reading it at a slow pace, to absorb its full essence. • My fav. line from the read: “A shadow is the truest reflection of your soul Its darkness filled edges tell you a narrative only if you dare to see through its layers”.
I started reading Winter Poems with an open mind. I had no expectations of how the book would turn out to be and I had no idea whether any of that will be good or bad. I am thankful for that opinion of it before starting, else I would have been terribly disappointed. It says in the blurb that the book is a collection of poems, inspired by the poet from the season post Durga Puja in Kolkata. I have no doubt about that. The poems really reflected the feeling of winter (at least, every now and then). However, I think that calling them "poems" is a little far-fetched. The pieces in this book were rather flash fictions written in the "form" of poem instead of fiction. (By that I mean that every new line formed a new paragraph.) And that really disappointed me. I don't mind reading poems, no matter from what era but this really seemed flash fiction. A couple of my friends defined them as micro tales but that feels rather far-fetched to me, too. I mean, micro tales have that verse feel to them. This didn't.
On the other hand, I liked the way the sentences were formed here. There was a nice wordplay going on every now and then. That was clever. However, I feel like these "tales" could have been improved upon a lot. Most of them were very simple. I would much rather prefer to read more complex "poems" than that. Some of them also needed editing too because like I said, a lot of it could have been improved upon.
I don't mean to say that the book was bad. It's just that it wasn't good enough. The themes revolving in the poems were also very common. Plus, I really disliked how any poem followed and preceded any other poem. When I'm reading a book, I like to keep my themes straight. That didn't happen at all.
winter poems by sabarna roy is a collection of poems. Poems are mostly related with different topics from different phases of our life, festivals in Kolkata to death related visuals. Actuallu I loved few of them but most of them are too heavy and difficult to underastand. You can relate and understand flow of emotions but those deep meanings are less understandble (for me). May be you don't feel so. Beacause poems are really good. But yeah one thing is there that poems are less poems more paragraph means it is written without any rhyme like in the form of short paragraph.
I've been astonished by Author Sabarna's work before, as his all writings have some thought process which either will make you feel intrigued or will bring your thoughts to a unending debate.
This is also one such book. He has presented this short read into two parts: Winter Poems 2010 & Winter Poems 2012.
The 2010 section holds a collection of 12 poems or I should say 12 identical thoughts, and the 2012 section is a set of 26 poems.
Well I won't reveal any full poems here but will share some of my favourite lines :
• Remembering and forgetting are complex phenomena even otherwise; more so after you’ve crossed the gate
• Inside a man lives another man sometimes known, sometimes unknown; so a stranger is not always a stranger but only another man in a pool of men
• Where is home? What is home? Whether home is only an idea – an imagination – of man? How far are we from our home? Is this our home – an endless vault of space – unable to connect to our past and future?
I recommend this book to those who are into poetry as the author has presented his thoughts and perceptions in form of a poetry in an very elegant way.
Winter Poems. I read this on as I sipped on warm tea sitting on the balcony in the middle of Kolkata. I am so happy I saved this read for my one week stay in Kolkata. I feel it enhanced my experience of the read. This is a collection on 38 poems spread over 2 parts. Each and every poem struck a chord with me. They talk about so many emotions, pain, sorrow, loss, demise, relationships. I felt the book was like an old friend who was sharing all their burdens and feelings with me on a winter evening with some garam chai. It is a short read of just 60 pages but it will give you a lot to think about. The poems also talk about Durga Pooja and Kali Pooja both festivals I love but don't get the opportunity to experience them in Kolkata. So, the poems did magic by transporting me to these festivities. The most common theme around the book was the fear of death and how to approach death given that it is something inevitable. As I read the poems, I experienced so many different emotions surging through me. I smiled and even shed a couple of tears along the way.
I am not a poem person, but these really touched me. It is a brilliant collection of heart-touching poems. The language is gorgeous. The poet has such a strong flair of the English language! I wouldn't say the book is for beginners, but if you like to read, even if you zero interest in poems this book will have an impact on you. The language itself is similar, but it has a lot of imagery and metaphors which need to be grasped in order to actually really and truly enjoy the read.
Winter poems is a anthology by Sabarna Roy. Poems are divided into two parts Winter poems 2010 Winter poem 2012 Themes of each poem vary. Even in one poetry there two themes one is very outward other one is subtly undelying below. Thank god there weren't cheesy puppy love poetry, otherwise I couldn't have finished this book.
I am not much into poetry. Did this anthology changed my perspective about poems? No. I would have preferred it better if these snippets to be written in prose rather than in free verse. That being said, some were good but others just didn't do much for me. Now the good poems are really in low number.
Book is well written. There are many references to movies such as Godfather (one of my favourites, that trilogy is must watch folks), inception, and others. It was pleasure to find Easter eggs while reading.
