This book provides a basic introduction to Australian birds. It answers commonly asked questions about birds with an emphasis on Australian species and describes well known families of birds and members of those families. Readers seeking a book identifying individual Australian birds will need to look elsewhere for a guide providing that information.

Some of the information in the book is outdated because it has not been updated since it was first published in 1998 and new scientific discoveries have been made since then.
