Sigil Craft: Your Guide to Using, Creating & Recognizing Magickal Symbols

Rate this book
A sigil is an intensely powerful magickal tool that any modern witch should consider adding to their repertoire. Sigils can help manifest your desires, ward off evil, and add deeper levels of meaning to your spells. You don’t have to be an artist to create a sigil—anyone can do it. Sigil Craft is Lia Taylor’s must-have guide to creating sigils, including step-by-step instructions using various methods including the Magic Square and Austin Osman Spare, as well as an overview of sigils throughout history, from Agrippa to modern chaos magick, from medieval grimoires and prehistoric cave paintings to the graphic novels of Grant Morrison. Taylor shares how to charge your sigils, incorporate them into your creative endeavors, and heighten the power of your sigils through the shoaling technique. This immensely useful book is fully illustrated with Taylor’s art, and is a fascinating guide to an increasingly popular practice.

A very informative, well-rounded and encouraging book on sigil craft. Perfect for learners of all types and styles, be it any or all of the historical, informative, creative, or curious readers. I learned a lot of interesting history that I'm curious to do deeper dives with. This was easy reading, but very informative, a perfect combination for nonfiction. The adorable cat pictures within were just lovely as well. Highly recommend this one to anyone curious about sigil making.

This is the first nonfiction book I've read for myself in years! I'm a total novice to the occult (besides tarot and astrology), so I'd like to read this book again at some point (buy a copy for myself) and start creating sigils.

This book feels simultaneously highly informative and highly disorganized. I personally attribute this to the author being limited in their page count, and doing their best to fit as much as they can within that limit. Lia is obviously incredibly passionate about this subject, and has a ton of insight into the history and varied uses of sigils. While not as straightforward a book as I'd hoped, there's a lot of great info in here that one can delve further into outside of this book. It definitely broadened my thoughts on what a sigil can both be and do~

Accessible, humorous, and demystifying. The author does a remarkable job finding a balance between “this is a powerful and useful tool” and “don’t take it too seriously.” I used the helpful tables of correspondences and symbols in the back of the book for days before even reading the rest, and once I did I wished I’d read it sooner!

Lia Taylor brings a fresh, friendly, sincere, imaginative, and relatable approach to the world of sigils in her book. She takes you on a journey through their history and methods for crafting one.

I particularly appreciate the book's format, where a friendly cat serves as a guide, highlighting key points along the way. Taylor's warm and insightful narrative encourages readers to perceive everything that leaves a lasting mental image as a sigil – be it books, songs, or any form of expression.

While it may not be the most methodical or exhaustive book on the subject, I believe it is the most user-friendly. It not only imparts knowledge about sigils but also encourages readers to open their minds and identify these symbolic images. The author's background as a visual artist is evident, and her comfort in visually expressing ideas makes the book feel fresh and enjoyable. This aspect is particularly valuable for readers who may initially approach sigil magick with skepticism or fear of a steep learning curve.

Maybe the book could have delved a bit more into how one can feel as comfortable as the author does expressing oneself through sigils. Perhaps including exercises for wrist flexibility or imaginative expression would have enhanced the overall quality of the book. Nevertheless, "Sigil Craft" is a welcoming guide that not only introduces the reader to the world of sigils but also provides a comfortable space to explore and understand this form of magick.

Normally little magic books like this are the kind of thing I’d pick up as a gift for a friend or peruse in store, but never buy for myself. But I am so glad I took a chance on this one! I’m a relatively practiced witch with some esoteric magical knowledge, but this book is great for anyone looking for practical assistance in a multitude of forms of sigil making. Not too dry like a lot of magic books, but also has some excellent research and further reading. Would highly recommend this non-binary approach to magic and this fabulous little book.

An exceptional read/listen! I was so happy to see Fox’s first book released as an audiobook. I am anticipating their next book to be just as incredible. Lots of valuable information for the new and old practicing witches.

I really enjoyed reading, the content is very easy to understand, it's very entertaining and full of interesting information on how to create your own sigils. In addition to the fact that it has very nice illustrations.

Not worth the read, absolute nonsense in the first psrt of the book, and fails to even provide an actual definition of the word Sigil. This mainly based on the authors personal agenda rather than an actual study and dive into the idea of sigils, and use of sigil craft.

I making a sigil or two to tattoo on myself. This helped so so much. I want to dive deeper into sigil work, I’ve always been drawn to symbols in majick. I will be referencing this book often.
