Sophia

I’m not shy. I’m not demure.

And I’m not an omega.

That doesn’t stop me from wanting my alpha professor and his pack.

They may be out of bounds – older, experienced and forbidden – but one by one they fall for me too. Charming Liam. Beautiful Gabriel. Protective Roman.

Despite appearances, not everything is right with this pack, though, and my past threatens to destroy our burdening relationship.

I know I’m playing with fire. But burnt fingers have never stopped me before.

And neither will my professor’s reservations. Perhaps he’s right to be cautious.

Because the problem with fires? They can burn out of control.

Hands down my new favorite of this series. This is the level of strong, smart, opinionated, complex, sex positive, modern female main character I have been looking for in omegaverse, specifically. She's a Physics PhD student, she's not shy, she's not a virgin, she doesn't back down, she asks for/demands what she wants, she does what others tell her she can't, and she leans on her female friend for support. Sophia is the highlight of this story IMO.

There's plenty to like in this story:
+Interesting pack dynamics - 4 men, 3 alphas and 1 omega, who are not pack exclusive. They all date/have sexual relationships outside of the pack.
+But also, the pack is going through some stuff, emotionally. They didn't lean on each other to work it out, they turned outward. I liked that while it was obvious the FMC was a love interest,  they ALSO had some conversations with each other to fix their issues. It avoided one of my least favorite tropes (where a new love interest is a magic fix-it).
+All of the alphas have an individual relationship with their pack omega, which are all featured and given time and attention. Again, I appreciated that a new love interest in the picture didn't shove already established relationships to the sidelines.
+The spice in this game has solidly been stepped up from previous books. The sexual tension and detail level have gone UP. Just...it's good. Fanning yourself while reading good.
+The third alpha isn't introduced until almost HALFWAY into the story. But I felt his introduction actually read really smoothly and naturally.  He brought something completely different to the group dynamic and the storyline, and he didn't feel overly contrived.

Truly, the only thing I truly had an issue with was the larger conflict that causes them all to finally get their act together, especially Esra. I was willing to move past it because the conflict isn't especially drawn out and resolves quickly, but it did feel a bit hastily pulled together. I could have done with Esra getting yelled at for truly awful behavior and then him having to grovel instead. (I am generally Team More-Male-Grovelling though)

Overall, if you're new to Hannah Haze's books, I think this one is a GREAT place to start. Alternatively, if you're a seasoned ABO reader and are looking for a bit of something different within Omegaverse, I solidly recommend.

Surprise pregnancy warning and rant
.
.

I'm honestly a bit surprised at all the raving reviews. I feel like this book and the plot had potential, but the execution wasn't great. Everything felt rushed and not detailed or fleshed out enough. None of the problems or traumas were properly talked or worked through. Even with that up until about 89% I was mostly enjoying it. It was a decent sweet omegaverse with a beta FMC. There's one a**hole Alpha that does absolutely no groveling. I get it he got hurt saving her but still. They just started over like ALL of it hadn't happened. Okay fine, but still I wasn't hating it. I still was at a 4 star rating at that point. Then before they all finally bang it out BOOM surprise pregnancy at 89%. Nope I tried to finish after that and couldn't. I HATE when any book has surprise pregnancies. Especially when it happens right after a conflict and boom all is solved. No one is dysfunctional anymore and everything is honky dory. It's such a damn cop out. She had no idea what she was going to do with her future as she hadn't finished school yet and now oh look babies. Maybe that was explained in the last 5%, but that ruined any ability to enjoy the rest of the book. It would have been perfect if the epilogue was her getting pregnant after they had all actually had some form of a relationship.

Rating ~3.5

One particular obstinate alpha annoyed me for most of the book, so half a star off for him. Though he did see reason in the end his love declaration felt so unearned. No time was spent on him truly getting to know the female lead. They slept together upon first meeting. Then once he discovered she was a Ph.D. student at the university he was teaching he simply acted like a self-important ass. His only redeeming moment was when he got stabbed by a knife to save her.

Now the rest of the pack, I genuinely liked. Liam was witty, smart, and genuine. He pursued Sophia from the start and was always honest about his feelings. He wanted her for himself and for the pack. Gabe, the only omega of the group, was fun and charming. He wasn't overly jealous and was honest about his interest in getting to know Sophia. Roman wasn't given too much of a role until the latter half but what we did get of him I liked. He was the one who'd been trying to hold his pack together, who hadn't wanted to pursue relationships outside of their pack.

Overall, I liked them as a pack. It felt like there was a balance and everyone had their role. Though, I probably could have done without Esra. But I supposed he added angst and obstacle.

Also, I know I’ve made this comparison a number of times now but this is yet another book I’d recommend to fans of Lola & the Millionaires.

Not sure if there's more to come for this series, but if there is this one is my favorite so far.

RH often has two problems:

1) Some of the characters aren't necessary. There's usually at least one who could be completely written out or absorbed in the traits of another character. Or they all suffer from lack of page time, so they're all very one-dimensional.

2) Going hand in hand with point one, the lack of page time usually means that at least one character - in this case two - don't develop meaningful relationships with the heroine.

That happens here with two of the four.

The superfluous character is Roman. He and Liam easily could've been the same, but Liam actually developed a relationship with Sophia and got to know her. Roman met her after giving her a ride and having some small talk, then ends up banging her against her living room window within an hour of meeting her (and just a few hours after he knows she had a threesome with his packmates).

Sound hot? It kinda wasn't. I got whiplash from the progression. And then we don't know anything about him except that he's a lawyer who is more in tune with the cracks in his pack than the other men seem to be. I could've taken an eraser to him and the book would've been none the wiser.

And then there's Esra - the first one we're introduced to. He's necessary to the plot because he is a borderline antagonist, although he's largely absent for most of the book. He's mentioned quite a bit, but the only interactions he has with the heroine are horrible. Aside from the first chapter. They meet and have a no-names-exchanged one night stand (that scene was fairly hot) and then go their separate ways. Only to find out - surprise - she's his PhD student *Note to author: thank you for making her age appropriate!!!*

Esra and Sophia circle each other for much of the book, with him yelling at her and warning her away from his pack and throwing her out of the house - naked - when his omega goes into heat. In fairness to the nakedness, they were in the omega's nest in the backyard outbuilding, so it's not as if he physically threw her into the street, he was just an ass and kicked her out of the building with her clothes. Still a dick move though, since the omega had asked her to be there.

There's other instances where he's just mean to her, which means I was hoping this would turn into the best element of the romance. If not for outright groveling, at least for a genuine "I'm sorry" and a thought out conversation.

My disappointment that this didn't happen lowered my rating a star. Instead, he saves her at a pivotal moment and she's the "all is forgiven" type, without an actual apology. It didn't help that she seemed to have a massive case of BBS around him, and that just makes me want to throw the book in irritation. But the book is attached to my iPad and that ain't happening.

We never see these two together forming their own relationship. After this, it's group dates and glossing over everything that happened before with teasing and little substance. It was such a disappointing letdown.

And then we come to the reason for the second star being taken off: a trope I'm not fond of. But that's not reason enough for adjusting a rating - the reason comes from the way it happens. We're talking about the last 10% of the book here, so don't click the spoiler tag if you don't want to know.

And it was going so well. Mostly. I was irritated by a lot of the tell and not show format. For instance, one hero tells her he loves her after an intense scene. Sweet, right? It might've been, if we'd gotten to read that actual moment. Instead readers got:

I whisper her name. I tell her how sorry I am. I tell her what a fool I've been. I tell her I've been in love with her all along.

That's it.

I felt like I was reading four sentences that were supposed to be the outline for an unwritten chapter. And those four sentences in chapter form were needed. The book went off the rails at that exact moment.

Judith McNaught once said that she wouldn't write a confession of love if it wasn't the most important thing that happened in the chapter. If it was overshadowed by anything, she didn't put it in that chapter. Well, modern authors no longer follow this formula and I often get over the less than big moments of characters admitting their feelings, but what I can't get over? Not even getting the big moment in the first place.

Show me, don't tell me.

But that happens a lot in the last part of the book. Weeks are glossed over with excessive and unnecessary time jumps - the actual romance of them building a relationship as a pack is nonexistent because we just get a laundry list of where they go on their dates each week. Sophia moving in to their house is mentioned a month after the fact in a blink and you'll miss it sentence. I felt like the author was getting tired of writing her own story and just wrapped it up as quickly as she could. Which is a shame, because I was invested until then.

And while I'm hitting rant mode, will you allow me a mini-rant that has absolutely nothing to do with the actual writing of the book? One thing I hated: the cover. I totally judge a book by its cover - I don't rate a book by its cover, but there have been times I've decided not to read one because it was so bad. This one almost fell in that realm, but the plot intrigued me. It should be noted, the cover on my book is not the same one that is listed on Goodreads.

I already hate the modern trend of an in-your-face...well...face. I don't mind shots from far away or creative cropping that obscures a lot of features, but we all picture characters differently. Sophia is said - to a nauseating degree - to be gorgeous, beautiful, sexy, perfect figure, etc. Then let me picture that. Every single time I opened my Kindle app, the cover flashes up and I'm trying to cleanse myself of this image of a girl who looks like a heavily make-upped 14 year old with straight strawberry blonde hair, when she's supposed to be a naturally stunningly beautiful 26 year old with chestnut brown waves. Okay, rant over.

The first 75% was good - lower your expectations after that. The spice was very mild for an RH book. It's there, but it's not descriptive. There were times I was wondering if they were actually having intercourse or still just in the foreplay stage, so don't go in expecting massive amounts of spice - even though there are a lot of love scenes. Honestly, near the end, I wasn't even sure which one was having sex with her because it wasn't clear. And then the entire scene lasts half a page, with everything (including the knot) glossed over and mentioned in passing.

The book, as a whole, was decent. The first part was really good - it was the last 1/4th that fell off the rails and began reading like the first draft of a Wattpad story. Disappointing, since it was gearing up to have a potentially great end.

Every time I got to the end of a chapter I'd convince myself just one more, and that's how I ended up binge reading the entire book. Which is pretty much what I do with all of Hannah's books! 😍
I loved all the characters, even the hot grumpy professor that needed to take a chill pill. One thing I truly adored was that Sophia is a perfectly normal beta and doesn't need to change, she's loved just as she is. And she's an unapologetically confident and sassy woman.

“The possibilities are endless. We can do so many things to her. Pleasure her in so many ways. Make her feel so good, she’ll want to join our pack forever.”

In Control is a sweet why choose, reverse harem.

It’s amazing how many different characters Hannah Haze can make me fall in love with but she’s done it again for the hundredth time! I LOVED this book.

The beta FMC is confident, independent and always down for a good time. She’s not looking for a pack or even love, she’s just focused on herself.

Sophia is a passionate (in and out of the sheets) PhD student studying physics. She has what she thinks is an anonymous hook up only to find the alpha that drove her crazy in a dark closet now is teaching at her school.

Esra’s new job just got interesting with Sophia driving him wild at work but pack life at home is even more complicated.

Alphas - Esra, Liam and Roman with their omega Gabriel are a pack but something is off. The past haunts them and it drives them apart. They have a rare open pack and relationships outside of each other. Which is how Sophia and Liam meet and slowly she forms relationships with the pack.

I think Gabriel was my favorite character. He had so much chemistry with Sophia, their friendship was so cute!

Also some beloved characters from an earlier book make a few appearances which is always fun.

5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thank you Hannah Haze for the In Control ARC.

Sophia is a PHD student studying physics and so happens to be a beta. She is sassy and smart and enjoys pushing buttons and toeing the line so when she has a fling with an Alpha at the ballet theater imagine her surprise that he is her professor. Alpha Esra, Alpha Roman, Alpha Liam and their Omega Gabriel have a lot of baggage and there are many fissures in their pack dynamic. Sophia is drawn to Liam and Gabe but she hopes the others will soon follow. I really enjoyed reading this from a beta's perspective and loved the spice. As always I can't wait for Hannah's next book in this series!

Omegaverse has fast become my favorite read and this latest by Hannah Haze was so enjoyable. Mainly because it didn't center on the usual of the relationships between Omega and alphas. Our female in this story is abets - the lowest on the ladder. Alphas don't go for betas. They are considered the servant class. They don't breed, they are the manual laborers of the omegaverse realm. But this beta is sassy and she doesn't fit the old of the normal submissive beta. She challenges the alpha, she looks him in the eye and defies him. And while he tries to keep his distance (student and professor) his other two pack members aren't so easily put off. They are both drawn to her. Separately.
The emotion, the determination, the sweetness, the devotion. It's all there and such an addictive read, it's one of those stories you can't put down.
Highly recommended read.

Perfect 🥰

I've read all of the 'In with the Pack' series and I absolutely loved Sophia in Rosie's book 'In Deep'. She's sassy, strong-willed and unapologetic about her life. Seeing her realize though that something is missing and then finding all the puzzle pieces in form of four handsome packmembers is beautiful, despite a short stint of tension. Sophia's journey to finding her pack, especially as a beta, is fantastic. She's definitely my new favorite in the series, although Gabe, the male Omega, is delicious to read about as well.

A great read

I have been searching and searching for another sweetverse style OV like Lola and this is it. Best of all, it feels unique and fun.

My only complaint is it isn't long enough. I wish it were a duet and the courting was dragged out pre and post stalker climax. I also wish the pregnancy didn't take up so many chapters.

I highly recommend this book.

dnf- I think I’m just so “little one”d out at this point. There was constant commentary from her and her alphas about her appearance and how stunningly gorgeous she was, how small, how petite, how fragile, how tiny, how bird-boned (still not sure if I just made that one up in my head or not!?) how hot her small hand looked on his big blank, it is getting old in this genre of books and became especially grating for me in this one. Can we know more about who she is, what her actions are, how she feels?

Plot setup was uncomfortably similar to Lola and the $$$ for me.

Holy sassy, badass beta...

Sophia. Sophia . I don't tend to like omegaverse books that centre on a beta - I just love knotting and nesting a little too much. Sophia is completely changing my mind on that, though.

Headstrong and brilliant, Sophia knows her mind. She's sassy, a far cry from most omega characters we read. We met her in the first book of this series - In Deep, Rosie's story. I also really like seeing characters from past stories as we go through the series.

She has a wild one-night stand with sexy alpha in a club... only to learn later on that he's her sexy, older professor! Sophie is a twenty-six year old PHD student, so the age gap is sexy without being creepy. Esra, aka professor McHottie (that's what I'm calling him) is rude, obtuse and does a spectacular job of putting his foot in his mouth at various times, and insists that he and Sophie cannot happen because she's his student.

Various shenanigans happen, and Sophie finds herself wound up in his pack full of strong, older and naturally, very sexy alphas as well as a male omega, Gabriel. I love a good male omega in omegaverse books. Really well written, and an excellent continuation of the series.

This story follows Sophia, a Beta who owns her sexuality and isn't afraid to go for what she wants. After a one-night stand with Esra, an Alpha, Sophia slowly meets all the members of his pack which include Alphas, Liam, a doctor, Roman, an attorney, and Gabriel, their ballet dancer, Omega. They all become involved, but Esra keeps fighting her being there until she is taken away. Will they all get together and bring Sophia into the pack? The spice level is extremely high and super steamy. A HEA is guaranteed. I can't wait for the next book in this series!!

Fantastic!
I really enjoyed Sophia's story. It was original and I liked that she was a beta and remained a beta. I thought it was a great example, that no matter their designation, alpha, beta, or omega they all deserve love and happiness. This book gave me all the feels and I couldn't put it down!
There was humor, angst and steam and more. The spicy scenes were hot!! 🔥
I loved Sophia's character. She was sassy, smart and confident. I like that the relationships between her and the men moved at their own pace. While all of the characters were a bit broken in different ways, they all fit together perfectly.
I loved it!!

I was skeptical going in because the only OV beta book I’ve liked was Lola, but this was well done! There was real feelings, jealousy, and a crazy amount of action/past trauma. Sophia was outspoken and took what she want, but she definitely has a bit of a chip on her shoulder. I honestly didn’t predict the ending just because the story was so chaotic for all the characters, but I think it’s worth the read solely because of how different it felt from your typical omegaverse

This was actually the first omegaverse book I've read with a male omega, although I'm all about MM action, I was skeptical on whether I'd like the FMC being a beta. I was wrong, this book was just as good as the others from this series. Sophia is a strong, independent beta, who had never been with an alpha or omega, and somehow ended up meeting a pack with 3 alphas and their omega. All of this pack was as obsessed with Sophia as she is of them. Gabe, the omega, has such a golden retriever personality, it was easy to quickly fall in love with him. Liam and Rowen were drawn to Sophia right away, their chemistry and ability to communicate was refreshing since misunderstandings are annoying in books. Esra on the other hand was a complete alphahole, and I didn't like him until almost the end of the book. Overall, this was a fun book and really easy to read.

I was given an ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Hannah honestly has a way of making us love characters even if they have a rough start in the early book. This story came together well and I loved how the pack loved her instantly. I absolutely love a strong female character and Sophia definitely is strong and confident! Esra had some problems and was rude to Sophia at times and had to overcome his own problems to be with her. I love the pack omega, Gabriel. He is sweet and protective of her and instantly makes her feel welcome with the family. Would have loved to see a groveling scene from Esra, especially for how he treated Sophia with the heat but they came together beautifully. I’m typically not a fan of female beta as the MC with male omega but this was very sweet and loving with a great HEA.

I really liked this book. Hannah managed it again to get me under the spell of the characters from the beginning. Sophia is a really inteligent, strongheaded and loveable FMC and finds her way to her pack even though she is a beta. They have to overcome quite a few challenges, but the writing is so natural, the story is just flowing. Very easy to read and a real page-turner. The book has also protective heroes, grumpy alpha males and even the age-gap element, coupled with many hot and steamy scenes which are beautifully written. Can't wait to read the next one!

I couldn’t wait to dive into Sophia’s story and let me tell you I was not disappointed to say the least. It was phenomenal. The way she molds right into the pack and just feels like she has been part of the pack since the very beginning. She is definitely what the pack has been missing. All of the members of the already formed pack have very strong personalities even their omega but watching all of them fall hard and fast for Sophia was so heart warming… Well all except for Esra that man lord I wanted to strangle him a time or two for putting up such a fight. All in all this was another fantastic heard and I cannot wait to see what this author brings us next.

Hannah Haze did a great job on this story, the plot was strong, it was written well, Liam, Sophia, Gabriel, Roman were strong characters, they made a strong pack. The connection that Sophia had with her men and the bond that Liam, Gabriel and Roman had with their woman was strong, they were good together, they would have done anything for each other. The chemistry was off the charts, it was steamy, they were made to be, they were a strong pack that belonged together so it didn't matter what came along, they were meant to be.
I enjoyed this book, I'd suggest reading it.

In Control by Hannah Haze is book five in In With The Pack Series. If you've read In Deep - Rosies story - then you'll remember Sophie. I loved Sophie then, and I love her now. She's still in school, getting her PHD. She's a little lost - not sure what she wants to do after school. She meets an Alpha and has a good time with him. Runs into him a couple weeks later and it all...changes. Super sweet story. Loved all the Alpha's and the Omega in this book. I always enjoy a male Omega. I also enjoy watching a Beta fit in with a pack and be cherished, loved by everyone. I also enjoyed seeing Rosie and her pack in the background helping our Beta out. Loved it.

My favorite in the series so far!
Sophia is an absolute star. The way she just fits perfectly into the pack is heartwarming. Even though she has a rough go with Esra, she brings out the best in all the other pack members. I was wondering how the author would be able to write a beta into a pack that already had an Omega, but it was absolutely beautiful.

Hannah has done it again! I loved Sophia’s story! I loved her character in In Deep and I’m so glad she found her happily ever after! It was well deserved! I love the fact that Sophia is a Beta. A strong confident Beta! It gives the book such a different dynamic and really allows Hannah Haze to show you how her and the packs' relationships develop. Sophia gets to know the guys as themselves rather than a smell that an omega is attracted to.

I love that the pack is older...and dysfunctional. And seeing them have to work through their issues rather than an omega showing up and magically fixing everything was such a refreshing departure from the typical omegaverse.

I really enjoyed In Control and definitely recommend.
