There is a wealth of info in here if you're new to plant based eating this is a great resource so you can learn the ins and outs of receiving adequate nutrition and safely raising plant based children.
My only issue with the way these books are written is there is such an emphasis on how exactly your child should be eating it's almost scary. Was there enough vitamin c in your toddlers lunch to aid in iron absorption? Was there any? WELL WAS THERE??
Sometimes too much info isn't as helpful as we want. Supplementation is fine sometimes and meals don't need to be a nutrient science experiment even if you're plant based.
The info is very understandable though and they do try to make things easy with their pb plate graphic and some of the recipes seem reasonable.
3 health obsessed parents out of 5 very unbothered children
Vorrei averlo letto molto prima.
will have read/listen to it again! well organised + a lot of info in there and not only about nutrition, also about baby development and psychology around food for instance, very very interesting and useful
Wonderful! A perfect blend of research with simple to follow actions for providing all the nutrition my little one needs from a plant-based upbringing. I’m super excited to make some of the recipes once my baby starts solids in a few months. This made me feel much more confident, armed with the knowledge I need, to make sure my baby’s healthy as well as navigate feeding him plant-based in a non-plant-based world. I also loved their gentle approach to “veganism.” This book is about the facts and putting the mental and physical health of our children first, which doesn’t always mean being perfectly vegan. Definitely going to be referencing this book a lot over the next few years!
If you have any inclination to even just feed your baby more plants, I highly recommend! So much great information packed in.
Also, I should note, I heard about this book while listening to Ellen Fisher’s podcast, which these two are on. Great podcast to listen to alongside for plant-based pregnancy and babies.
Excellent book for babies, toddlers, older kiddos and even adults transitioning to a primarily plant based diet. All of the recipes are excellent and easy. The important nutrition information throughout the book is explained clearly and after reading I had confidence I could give my kids what their bodies needed through this dietary shift. It’s a staple in our kitchen and I reference it all the time. Also follow the Plant Based Juniors blog for ongoing information and recipes!
This is a must-have resource for any parent who wants to raise their child vegan/plant-based or just want to get more vegetables on their plate. Understanding the nutrition needs for babies / toddlers / breastfeeding mamas and how to satisfy those these on a plant-based diet is so important yet unknown to the general population. The resources and recipes are also great - my 1yo loves the BLW oatmeal pancakes!
Very useful guide, I learnt a lot despite being vegan myself since 2016. I appreciated the flexible approach, and the detail that went into explaining various nutrients that babies and children need. At times, it was a bit too detailed and overwhelming, and some of the recipes were a bit too elaborate. But I bookmarked many pages. I will recommend it to fellow plant-based friends!
I loved this book!!!! Super helpful, having an infant who just started eating. The recipes are great. This book makes plant based eating for little ones much easier to understand as well as shows how realistic it is for children to be healthy from the start.
Maybe I will update my review when I have my baby if I find that there is advice lacking from this book, but for now I found it extremely helpful and can't imagine it needing anything more! I would recommend this for all parents, even in omnivore households.
I love any resource that is going to provide helpful, non-judgemental advice for plant-based babe feeding. These gals break everything down for you in an easy to understand format. I am looking forward to trying out their recipes and having this book to refer to for years to come.
Great resource for navigating so many aspects of raising a plant-based child, from ensuring they are getting adequate nutrition to navigating tricky social situations. The included recipes were all simple to make with easy to find ingredients.
This book offers a combination of meta-analysis, advice, recipes, and simple takeaways. It's approachable, flexible, and nonjudgmental. Very helpful in reducing the anxiety of introducing solids to our kiddo.
Useful book especially on reassuring parents that vegan diets can be adequate and on planning out supplementation. Loses a star because the recipes seem kind of gross and they don't really give advice on how to make preparing food for your little one practical and not excessively time consuming.
I’ve been vegan for 11 years, and am now a vegan breastfeeding mom raising a vegan son! I found this book to be helpful and look forward to using the recipes.
Loved it!!!!!! 😍 If you are into plant based nutrition and are pregnant or have a baby or a toddler this book is for you!!! So interesting and with a lot of information and recipes
First with my negatives; I don't like how it frames "animals and animal products are the only reliable dietary sources" of B12 without including, BECAUSE THEY ARE SUPPLEMENTED! That's kindof huge.. so -1 star for the vegan food book totally failing on a bad narrative choice there. I'm also a little baffled by the suggestion to give fish oil when algae D3/EPA/DHA supplements are widely available and don't exactly cost a fortune.... yeah yeah don't let perfect be the enemy of good and such.... but come on! I guess that's why it's the "plant-based" baby 🧐😑
Okay gripes aside I do like all of the recipes, they have great suggestions for easy to prep, balanced meals for baby and honestly family because a lot of them look appealing to me as well. I like that it simplifies improving nutrient absorption while keeping things relatively simple for sleep deprived parents.
Edit: After prepping a number of the recipes, there are some that should be sorted out in a reprint.. Like the "Blueberry Muffin Mix" made as directed is SUPER thick and sticky? I needed to add a ton of extra water to get it to blend and it's still a really odd texture. The "Sweet Potato Stars" are fun but there's no instructions for the 1 tablespoon of oil, like is it added to the mix or for greasing the baking sheet? Also I don't know what this is a dupe of so it'd be helpful to have an end goal description like are they soft on the inside or hard like crackers? How thick should they be for that amount of time in the oven to work? I'm finding the recipes need experimentation which I don't have a ton of time for right now lol
Loved this book! Super informative and gave me great information to bring to my infant dietitian. So glad I read this about iron needs as I don’t think my baby would have gotten her (much needed!) supplement otherwise
