Observation Records of My Fiancée #1

自称悪役令嬢な婚約者の観察記録。〈1〉

Rate this book
Lady Bertia, who’s become my fiancée, is a bit odd. On our first meeting, she proclaimed herself a villainess noble girl who’s been reincarnated and said that she’s working hard every day to become a splendid flower of evil that’s elegantly put in her place.I don’t get it.But she entertains me because I don’t understand. That’s why I think I’ll observe her for a while. This is a story of a crown prince who’s so talented and handsome that he’s grown bored of his easy-mode life. A story of this prince observing a self-proclaimed villainess noble girl (who seems perfect at first but is a bit off) who’s become his fiancée as she snatches flags and breaks them into pieces.

This is a good enough twist on the villainess premise, although I could have done without the surprise "pedophile is grooming Bertia and she's too clueless to get it" bit.

Manga 1-33.5

Yet another villainess Isekai but again different. Although Bertia is the reincarnation, it’s Cecil the fiancée who sees all. Bertia is chaotic, soft and likes meddling. She accepts who she is from the go, confesses everything to Cecil and somehow gathers everyone to her side. She’s the definition of sweet and oblivious. It’s almost comical how she tries to play the villainess.

Cecil is the fixer, the bored problem solver, possessive over his toy. I loved the character growth for him, how he learns emotions defying the bad route endings. It’s interesting how if the villainess is good, then the heroine becomes bad. In this case delusional. It was entertaining the way Bertia set the pieces up and Cecil effortlessly got through each situation. This goes up there with my faves.

This one is still a lot of fun. It cheerfully both embraces and ridicules all the tropes and the characters are a lot of fun.

Review for the manga, Chapters 1-33.
Actual Rating: 5 stars. I do have to wrinkle my nose at the weight loss thing for Bertia though.

1. You know the drill. The villainess is isekaied with full knowledge of what will happen in the otome game she's in. Bertia, the FL in this one is one of the "I will follow the plot faithfully" types. There's an OG!FL who is also a transmigrator and a magic system. Tropes which we've all seen a lot of.

2. A few things make this story very different from the others, though. The first is that the villainess who would normally be the lead character here is the love interest. The actual PoV character is the Prince Archetype (and actual crown prince) love interest. Cecil, our MC, is almost never on screen without a serene-sinister smile on his face. He is terrifyingly (indeed, supernaturally) smart and generally views everyone around him as puppets for his entertainment, albeit in a mostly good-natured way (for now).

3. Bertia, our villainess heroine (or Love Interest in this case) is a loud and sparkly agent of chaos, and one of the most entertaining things Cecil has ever encountered. Bertia is well- meaning, enthusiastic, determined, and honestly kindof airheaded (affectionate). She is also an absolute delight. The chaos she drags along in her wake as she (attempts to) influence the plot are hilarious.

4. Sunshine/Sunshine Protector ships ftw.

5. Good supporting characters, good plotline (a lot of otome tropes are explained using in-universe reasons) and just really funny overall. I enjoyed this a lot.

So cute. Asdasfsdsds.

I love the main character and the setting and the development. It's common genre and idea now because a lot of villain-main heroine-reincarnate thingy but this one is so cute and great. Will definitely support the author if its translated in my country. ❤

Thank you for dedicated fans who translated this work. ITS GEM!

Written by Shiki and illustrated by Wan Hachipisu, Hanashi Media’s latest title offers up a villainess tale told from a very different perspective. Instead of the story being told through the words of the villainess, this story follows her antics through the eyes of her fiancé, Prince Cecil.

The story begins with its respective observer at a loss. A prodigy, Prince Cecil has become bored with life at a very young age, given that very little challenges him. This all changes, however, when he’s betrothed to Bertia. A self-proclaimed villainess, she thrusts his life into a world completely alien to his own, filled with “villainesses,” “heroines,” and “Otome games,” concepts that he can’t even begin to understand.

For once, the prince is set alight by a new challenge, but what starts as mere interest and observations quickly develops into something deeper.

As the story progresses, Cecil begins to grasp the prophetic claims of his fiancée and the dangers that face the kingdom. Through Bertia’s information, he’s able to stop an epidemic as well as get rid of some of the rot that has begun to infest the kingdom, giving the author the perfect opportunity to show that Cecil’s intelligence isn’t just for show. Furthermore, as Cecil learns of Bertia’s every cute action and idiosyncrasy, his cold, methodical heart begins to think of her not as a plaything but rather as someone to love.

As for the star of Cecil’s observations, Bertia shines in more ways than one. Energetic but oblivious, it’s clear from the outset that she has very strange ideas about what it takes to become a villainess, describing them as “strong, noble, and beautiful.”

Throughout the story, she fumbles her way through her villainess events (much to Cecil’s amusement), ultimately leading her to become beloved by many. Her actions are often misconstrued as graceful sacrifices, leading to her gaining many friends and allies. This also plays nicely with one of the volume’s side plots, as she helps, rather hilariously, to play cupid between the Otome game’s original capture targets.

Unfortunately, not everyone is a fan of Bertia’s antics, and this idea plays out during the volume’s climax. There are two characters who have a particular problem with Bertia by the end of the story, and they end up playing against each other nicely. Of note is the successful misdirection as the author plays on the reader’s preconceived notions of how Otome games play out against them. The author is quick to point out that there are more enemies out there for nobility than a heroine who always follows the script.

Entertaining and a little off-piste, Observation Records’ first instalment provides brilliant foundations for the series’ future. To count among its highlights is a range of vivid and well-imagined characters as well as an Otome plot malleable enough to allow for it to go off the rails.

Silly, very silly, but I enjoyed it and honestly it's easy for me to understand the prince's point of view as my sister is much like him.
