Mankind's extinction Archive had failed. A solitary intellect drew one Adjust the past to ensure a future. The interventions were Across 64 years, events converged…
It was now just a matter of Time.
As the convergence event draws closer, survival will depend on the evolution of mind, an encrypted message, and the Boundary...
The third book in the time-defying Science Fiction series shows no signs of slowing. The sharp corners and twists are taken at speed, leaving you to grip the edge of your seat!
After choosing between Astrophysics and Electromechanical Engineering, Simon Winstanley went on to become (variously) an Engineer, Technology Teacher, Concept Illustrator, 3D Motion Ride designer, Visual Effects supervisor and Science Fiction author. He lives in North London, but his mind still commutes off-world.
The stories are beginning to be more cohesive, but there is still no conclusion, and we still bounce around from chapter to chapter. I looked up glazing on the internet, and the definition is still what I thought it was which is not how it is used in the book. Is this some secret English slang? I also had centripital used the way I thought centrifugal was supposed to be used. Looked that up on the internet, and still think I'm right. Everybody's still in crises mode with bad guys making things worse. Chen thinks he can start all over, but can't even tell the truth to the AI he birthed. Bradley's become a tin dictator, and Alford is manipulating the node. We learn how Atka gets his name. We also find out where Atka's tribe came from. We learn the secret identity of the intervenor. The status of the people from the Warren is in the air. Miles is still alive for some strange reason. Blackbox is in trouble. We're now discussing morality, and hopefully the various threads will come together as promised. That doesn't happen in this book, but there's hope that it will happen in the next book. With a 5000 year spread between the various threads, one wonders 1) why is civilization so backward in year 7000+, and 2) won't there be a technology difference between the various threads? What's the thing about the submarine? It seems to be aimlessly wandering about looking at ice statues. I'm still not impressed, but hopefully, everything will come together justifying my staying with it this far.
Part 3 of the Field series. You need to read the first two parts of the series before this.
Only three stars as I would like to think that you could read each part of a series on its own and at least have a story not just part and also I'm not a fan of the style.
Follows the same pattern as the first two, jumping around between time periods and between characters. The underlying story is a good one but the style of the book is irritating.
Although its part three its still the same story as part one and two. A comet/asteroid is coming to destroy the Earth. So begins a complex plan to save Earth and a backup in case of failure. Then all the deceit and treachery starts. Its a sad indictment of us that these behaviors are believable. Sadder perhaps that there are few 'decent' people in the story, most of the characters are deceitful, scheming and thoroughly unpleasant.
Time for part four and then perhaps a book where there are more decent people represented.
I’ve followed the series of books with a sense of joy and frustration. Joy, because I have loved them and the characters in them, the intertwined stories and the concept of the books but frustration because of the jumping about between the storylines and jumping around in time, then getting to the end of one of the books and having so may questions unanswered. This time lots of the questions are answered and the end of the book feels like you could end it there, but there is a follow on book which I am looking forward to. Do read them in order, I’d even suggest binge reading them. They are a great saga showing the best and the worst of humanity.
I have read both field 1 and field 2 books and enjoyed them thoroughly. This third edition to the series does not disappoint, as I found myself once again finding any excuse to loose myself within the pages of yet another fantastic book from Simon Winstanley. I'm now eagerly awaiting the forth edition to the series, and it can't come soon enough. If only I had a field generator of my own... hmmm.
Another very good book in the third of the Field series but, be warned, you really have to be familiar with the first and second novels to understand what is going on here. Well worth reading with all the different timelines starting to converge. Yet another excellent ending and a fourth book on the way.
Best book of the set so far, it has so many complex ideas and threads that come together really well. It's a very good read that takes you on a good journey. It's everything a good book should be. Very much looking forward to the next installment.
Having neither a PHD in physics or a brain of an Einstein this story was way too much filled with ultra confusing concepts. I wonder how many gods will exist in the final chapter.
Wow, this book was so intriguing. I couldn't put it down. These events were so believable. Admittedly it it took me a while to get into it when I started reading the first book in the series.
I just finished Boundary - gutted!! Then I saw Mr Wistanley is writing “Eva”! Hurry up Simon!!! Such a post apocalyptic masterpiece, not read anything this good, this intricate or compelling for ages! Thank you!
