Charlotte Walker and Adam Middleton were childhood sweethearts until the day he and his family disappeared. All he left Charlotte was a scrappy piece of paper with a few throwaway ‘I’ll never forget you. I promise.’After eight years of hoping he’d come back into her life, Charlotte can no longer bear the heartbreak of Adam’s broken promise. Retreating to a remote cabin to spend a quiet Christmas holiday alone, Charlotte is determined to push the ghost of Adam into the past and focus on moving forward with the rest of her life. But when a bearded man knocks on the cabin door on Christmas Eve, could he hold the answer to Charlotte’s years of heartache?
Melody grew up in North Yorkshire, England. She's a North Yorkshire lass through and through, although she does have a tendency to holiday in Spain. She has dreams of moving to the warmer climate to sip on Sangria as the sun sets over the roof tops of surrounding buildings. But, for the moment, she still lives in North Yorkshire with her husband and two sons.
Charlotte is dwelling on the love that got away. Adam disappeared from her life and she never understood why. Years later she is visiting the cabin they enjoyed their summers at. Everything has changed but everything is the same.
Charlotte is hoping to enjoy Christmas is a desolate cabin, but she finds the one thing she never expects. Adam.
4 stars. This offers something different to the typical Christmas read.
The story had some pretty big holes in the plot but I think that can be expected by the length of it. But in general I was surprised I liked it that much as i do not "do" well with short novels.
After I placed aside all of my thoughts on the holes it was really a sweet heartwarming moment in time and I think that this was what it was ment to be
Gripping and emotional from page one, Promise, by Melody Winter, is the perfect sweet, cozy romance to add the right amount of warmth to your cold winter season.
Left with only a note and a promise, Charlotte has had eight years to try and forget her childhood love, Adam. To close that chapter of her life, and try to move on, she ventures to her family's cabin to spend a solitary Christmas getting over her memories of Adam. But when a mysterious stranger arrives at the cabin, the heartbreak dogging Charlotte for eight years finally has a chance to heal.
The vivid imagery of their childhood, and Charlotte's heartbreak, weave throughout the story like a blanket meant to tame the cold. But what really warms the heart is the idea of second chances. The idea that true love exists, and the innocence of childhood, though lost, doesn't have to remain broken.
Charlotte Walker (Lottie) and Adam Middleton were childhood sweethearts, each year both families would go on holiday together until one day Lottie got home from school to find Adam and his family were gone. The only thing left was a crumpled piece of paper which read I'll never forget you I Promise. Eight long years passed by Lottie couldnt move on so decided that she had to get her head sorted and would spend Christmas alone at the cottage where the families spent their Summers. Will Lottie find out why Adams family left without notice. Will she finally be able to move on. A lovely story of young love torn apart. i really enjoyed this book even though my preference is thrillers.
This is my first read by Melody Winter and I really enjoyed it. Even though based round Christmas time, its not your usual festive read, but does keep you interested from start to finish, about two childhood sweethearts that loose contact. It is a beautiful read and I would say can be read at anytime of the year. If your looking for a short Novella I can highly recommend this one.
I was looking for a Christmas read to get me feeling festive and this book was perfect. It’s not about a traditional Christmas but it was a lovely heartwarming story and I really enjoyed it.
This was my first read by this author so I went in with blind expectations. I wanted a quick wintery read and that's exactly what I got. Although it's set around Christmas, it's not really *about* Christmas (though a small part of the story does take place on Christmas Day).
Charlotte has waited years for Adam to keep his promise, and when he knocks on her door of the remote cabin in the woods where she's staying over Christmas, she can't believe it. They had a lot of catching up and explaining to do.
The story flowed well, it really set the scene for winter. It was quite melancholy to start with Charlotte wanting to be alone over Christmas, but once Adam turned up it became jolly. I'd like to have known what happened afterwards and Charlotte confronting her parents, but overall it was a lovely quick read.
I was very kindly offered an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. I have given it 5 stars.
This is the perfect time of year for those festive heart warming stories that leave you with that Christmassy feeling and Melody Winter does not disappoint. Promise is a short, heart warming, incredibly sweet, festive feel good romance! Promise proves that if you wish hard enough Christmas miracles really can happen. I could easily have read far more from this story as I was completely hooked from start to finish.
So if you are looking for something short and festive to keep you warm on these long winter nights, Promise is definitely for you!
I loved this book. A great sweet romantic short story just in time for Christmas. I really felt emotional to Lottie's heart ache and pain which we can all relate to on some level. Christmas is a time for miracles and wishes to come true. This story is a great read and will leave you feeling uplifted this Holiday season.
