Bella couldn't be happier that her long-feuding Aunt Rosa and Uncle Lazarro have finally admitted their love for one another and are getting married. Their forties-style wedding is sure to be a night to remember. But when the Rossi house begins to fill up with family from Italy--and an old mobster from New Jersey--life starts to get complicated. Will Lazarro's friend from the past drive the happy couple apart once more? And will Bella ever have time to think of her own rapidly-approaching wedding amidst the chaos? Full of laugh-out-loud humor, plenty of Italian passion, and a bit of Texas gumption, It Had to Be You is the satisfying conclusion to an entertaining series.

This book was cheesy, really cheesy. There were some cute and funny lines and I smiled a number of times. Not enough to compensate for the negative thoughts though.
It was overly "christian". When Bella was angry, "She thought, 'God I've stepped out from under your anointing.'" I tired of those types of phrases early.
When the family was in the middle of "World War 3" (grossly cliche`), Bella tells her fiance, "The worst part is we've lost our witness." Annoying!!
The drama was unrealistic, the minds too pure to be true. (DJ blushed when he told his fiance he wanted a king-sized bed in the master bedroom.)
And what's the deal with the cover? DJ was a hunky cowboy, what on earth was going through the publisher's head when they designed the cover with the preppy dude?
This is a series to remember. The kind that will never leave my keeper shelves and will be reread over and over again. IT HAD TO BE YOU is the spectacular conclusion to a thrilling series. Bella and the Rossi clan have thoroughly wormed themselves into my heart and Bella’s hunky cowboy is her perfect match. Bella’s warmth and genuine personality gives all young women (and the young at heart) that a fairy tale love is so very possible. Not one but two weddings are being planned in this fun loving book and the trials are far from over. I love the light hearted spin a normally stressful situation would have. Bella has the remarkable ability to draw the reader in and make them a character right along with her. Nothing sappy about what she does, only a pure and lovable romance. I will miss joining in on the fun and am sorry to see the series come to an end, which in my opinion is the mark of a truly wonderful book- or in this case books. But I take comfort knowing that Bella is only a page turn away, in three of my favorite books of all time, WEDDINGS BY BELLA!! This review is my honest opinion, Thanks to Revell publishes for a copy to review. Available May 2010 at your favorite bookseller from Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group
Bella Rossi is beyond thrilled to be planning her aunt and uncle's wedding as well as her own. But this is the Rossi family so you can expect hilarity and complications galore.
Throw in a former mob boss, a missing best friend, a trip to the hospital, and even more family members showing up, Bella has her work cut out for her.
This is a clean laugh out loud comedy you'll love. I highly recommend this for all ages.
Bella and the rest of the Rossi clan return for a third outing of wedding-fueled hilarity in It Had to Be You, the final novel in Janice Thompson’s “Weddings by Bella” series. Bella’s beloved Aunt Rosa and Uncle Laz have finally foregone constant feuding in favor of marriage, and tasked Bella with planning an elaborate forties-themed wedding, complete with live swing music. Several long-distance members of the Rossi family descend on the household for the celebration, complicating the wedding preparations with their own personal drama and opinions. When a former mob boss is added to the mix who disapproves of the bride-to-be, Bella’s best friend disappears, and interest in Club Wed explodes, Bella wonders if plans for her own dream wedding to her cowboy fiancé D.J. will be lost in the drama and busyness of everyone else’s lives. In order to make her own happily ever after come true, Bella has one final lesson to learn about trust and control in order to step fearlessly into her future, full of faith.
With It Had to Be You, Thompson brings Bella’s story full circle. There have been times when Bella’s character has been a bit frustrating, since she never seems to move past the insecurities that plague her perception of herself and her abilities. But she’s seen both personal and professional success on the wedding front, since Club Wed brought D.J. into her life and his support has been integral to both the business’s success and Bella’s growing confidence as a wedding planner. When it comes time to realize her own bridal dreams, Bella finally learns a valuable lesson – that receiving can be as much of a gift as giving, and true freedom can be found in relinquishing control to a God one can trust to guide your steps. But more than Bella’s story, this is a trilogy about family, and all of the ups, downs, drama and love that comes with the territory of belonging to a group of unique and varied personalities. The Rossis are truly the Italian version of My Big Fat Greek Wedding, with all of the family love and drama grounded by a rock-solid Christian faith. While this installment feels a bit preachier than volumes one and two, fans of the series will not want to miss a third helping of Thompson’s trademark warmth and humor.
This is as breezy and fast-paced a read as the first two novels in the “Bella” series. It’s critical to read the series in order, since the events of each subsequent book follow closely on its predecessor. One of my favorite elements of this story is how the family’s love of pop standards takes center stage thanks to the theme of Rosa and Laz’s wedding. I loved reading about the planning involved in bringing my favorite time period to life for two characters who’ve been so much fun to read about throughout the series. Speaking of Rosa and Laz, I really appreciate how Thompson doesn’t limit love and marriage to the younger characters alone. In Bella’s life, people of all ages, sizes, and backgrounds fall in love left and right in this series, just one of the reasons that make this trilogy such a joy to read. A large part of the series’ appeal is the characters’ appreciation of classic song – and like the classics of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, the Rossi family virtues of unconditional love, forgiveness, and support endure and make you want to spend time with Bella and her whacky family. It Had to Be You is a satisfying conclusion to the frothy fun and heart of the “Weddings by Bella” series. Once you start reading, you won't want to stop - and I can promise you'll be craving Italian food. :)
This was the fifth book I've read by this author, and I loved it every bit as much as all the others! It was so great to finally read the next installment in Bella and D.J.'s story! I knew what to expect from a Janice Thompson book, a fun story with quirky characters, that will have me rolling on the floor laughing while at the same time inspiring me and bringing me into a closer and deeper relationship with The Lord! And this one definitely did not disappoint on any of those counts! Overall, I loved this book and highly recommend it as well as the rest of the series, this is definitely a series that is best read in order.
I did not get this book for review. A friend loaned me their kindle copy thanks!
A wonderful ending. DJ and Bella as wells as Rosa and Laz get their moment. Seeing the characters and their growth in the Lord is just great. I honestly relate to Bella a lot more now so this is a great read.
I am writing this review with a touch of sadness because now, the Weddings by Bella series is over. That is indeed a sad occasion, but I have enjoyed every minute of it from the very beginning. It Had to Be You is a fitting ending to the series. There is so much joy and happiness in this story. It provides a wonderful reminder of the joys of family during times of struggle and celebration. The Rossi family, well, and the Neeley family, are both families I would love to know in real life. This book still has plenty of the humor that I have enjoyed since Fools Rush In, but it has a double dose of sweetness that I really needed right about now.
I found myself able to relate to Bella much more in this story than in the previous two books. She and I struggle with many of the same issues spiritually. She let her guard down more in this story and I got a good look at her struggles and how God can help with those struggles, even when we resist. She learned many important lessons as she tried to do too much and tried too hard to prove herself. I’m sure a lot of women will see themselves in Bella, and they will be able to learn a lot from her.
If you have enjoyed this series from the beginning as I have, you will love It Had to Be You. Janice Thompson knows her readers and she loves to give us what we want, and she does it so well. I would highly recommend reading the first two books in this series before reading It Had to Be You. I would hate for you to miss a moment of this fun, funny, and sweet series.
Can you say “word from God”? This book is exactly what I needed to be reading right now. I’ve been struggling with taking too much stuff on, letting myself become stressed, and not staying in close connection with God. He comes first. Then family, friends, and work. Gotta get that right! I was completely able to relate to Bella. And, of course, D.J. is back and better than ever! He is a character that will melt your heart. Love him! He’s so thoughtful.
All the other zany characters from books past are back and still never fail to crack me up. There are even more hilarious characters added to the mix, and situations that will nearly make you bust a gut. Too funny. I’m sad to see the end of this series, but I thought that this was a great conclusion to the Bella stories. However… if we just HAPPENED to see Bella and everyone else again in some other series down the road, well… I certainly wouldn’t object. ;)
It took me far too long to get to the final installment of this wonderful series.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book, but I have to admit that I thought a lot was going on and some readers may feel almost as overwhelmed as Bella. I think the author had a lot of subplots to tie up and with a couple of them she could have had almost enough to stretch into another book. There is Bella's wedding, Uncle Laz and Aunt Rosa's wedding, another engagement in the family, a few more weddings planned, a couple romances for some close friends . . . and a few bumps in the road on the way to bliss.
Having said all that, I love the humor in these books and the sense of family that permeates the pages and sucks you in. I have said it before - but I would love to be adopted by this family (for the food if nothing else).
I'm sad the series is over. It's like saying goodbye to close friends.
A lot of crazy things keep happening to this drama prone Texas-Italian family, especially while Bella is trying to plan her aunt and uncle's wedding--and her own. Some of it almost seemed over the top--one thing after another after another, but it was still the same fun, light, easy writing style. It was a cute story.
4 of 5 stars Alright, I really enjoyed this one! Way to go, Janice Thompson, because this one was spectacular! I've gotta admit, that crazy Italian family grows on you! I loved seeing them all together in this book, and it was my favorite of the three I've read about Bella. It was the perfect conclusion to the trilogy... and then I found out that she wrote another one. What I really loved about this book is how D.J. loves Bella so entirely! And she loves him back, of course! It was really sweet, and I really enjoyed hearing about them working together towards the wedding, honeymoon, and house of their dreams. It was so great! I was very happy with how this book turned out, and I liked how we tied everything up so nicely. Thanks, Janice Thompson for another clean book that I could read and enjoy!
I enjoyed this fun Italian family! A heartwarming listen for sure. Rosa waiting for love for over 50 years, Lazaro learning to love again after losing his first wife. Throw a southern (Texan) cowboy and his family into the mix and it was just fun. A lot to follow with different characters and what they have going on, but it was easy to follow and get caught up in the characters
The narrator did a good job, her Italian flowed easily as well as the Italian accept on some of the characters. I thought her voice of the south was a little off, but still good overall.
I received a free copy of this audiobook and I have voluntarily left this review.
Cheesy & lighter than meringue but overall fun. Some bits a bit annoying- how many times do we have to hear about her cowboy or sawdust in his hair? & some details just aren’t needed especially when they’ve been in previous books. Also the same word was used to describe the parrot multiple times, think of another adjective please! Despite these niggles i still enjoyed & will read the final book in the series.

Texas and Italy collide after a Texas cowboy and Italian girl fall in love.
Loved being back with Bella and DJ and their famlies. Bella had her hands full with all the wedding plus her own. It almost took it tole. But God and her family and friends came to the rescue. Bella learned to let go. She and DJ had their special day and a new home to fill with love. Looking forward to the last book in the series.
3.5 stars Rosa & Laz get married!! A mob boss and his parrot come to Jesus! Jolene gets married! Marcella is having a girl! Bella's family comes to visit! Deanna gets engaged! Sophia gets engaged! Bubba & Jenna eloped!! Bella gets married to her cowboy DJ after she almost has a heart attack! Whew! That was a lot happening! On to the next!
Wedding Series by the author all have been a delight to read. With the good narration it brings us to a wedding of her beloved aunt and uncle. She has long awaited for this day and plans are for family to celebrate. With the arrival of those from Italy she got more than she wanted, trouble came. Delighted. Given audio for my voluntary review
This was yet another fun read in the Wedding By Bella series. Once more, I enjoyed the bantering between characters and the humor. This is a series a revisit whenever I am in the need of something I can read without much thought or worry.
Love Janice Thompson's Christian romantic comedy books. I can't stop smiling while I'm reading, unless I'm laughing out loud. Thank you, Ms. Thompson, I love spending time with the Rossi and Neeley families.
I had a hard time getting through this book. I continued to the end to see where the storyline went but the Christianity seemed forced in too many places that it was not needed.
I thoroughly enjoyed this third instalment in the Weddings by Bella series, and can't wait to read the fourth. In the series Janice Thompson has created such a fantastic bunch of characters. I loved seeing Bella and DJ's relationship continuing to develop in the midst of the crazy activity surrounding the wedding of Uncle Laz and Aunt Rosa. As well as the Rossi and Neeley families we also get to meet up with the fabulous larger-than-life Splendora Sisters, and who could forget Guido, the parrot?
This book is filled with fun, humour and lots of love. It also has a depth to it as Bella, among others, learns a few life lessons. And will Bella and DJ finally get their own happily ever after? You'll just have to read the book to find out!
Thank you Janice for a wonderful series and such lovable characters. If one day I should ever make it to Texas I'd certainly want to look them up. ;)
Bella and her wacky family and friends are back for one more book! It Had to be You is the third and final book in the Weddings by Bella series.
I didn't find this installment in the series to be quite as captivating as the other two. Fools Rush In (1st in the series) was my favorite, Swinging on a Star (2nd in the series) was my 2nd favorite, and then there's the final book, It Had to Be You.
Quite a bit of the dialogue and scenarios seemed fairly repetitive through-out the book: Bella worries about her own wedding, she gets a new client for the wedding facility, she wonders how she'll get everything done and still be able to work on her own wedding...then she decides (or rather, "tries") to give matters over to God and not freak out about everything. Over and over, this same cycle is repeated, particularly in the last half of the story. I really do like the characters, and there were definitely good parts.... It's just that Bella's repetitive thought patterns got somewhat annoying, and made the story seem like it should have been shorter in length.
On the plus side: it was fun to get to "meet" Bella's relatives from Italy, and Sal the mob boss was interesting as well. Of course it was also nice to see several of the couples that have been around through-out the whole series get their happy endings. The characters are still mostly fun, and the message the book conveys is good as well.
Other thoughts: I want to mention that I think this series has the cutest cover art. It's cool how the same two people are on all three covers, they just give off a romantic feeling. Great job on that!! Also, I noticed there's a few reviews that suggest this book/series is too preachy, has too much religion, etc. This is a Christian fiction series, so of course the characters are going to talk about their faith and try to live it. I didn't find any of the books to be too preachy at all, and in fact this never even occurred to me until I read some of the reviews. Just my thoughts on the issue... :)
So....if you've read the other two books, you'll definitely want to pick this one up as well for the conclusion to most of the storylines that have been going on through-out the series. If you haven't read the other two yet, make sure to read them before reading this one, as you'll enjoy it more if you already know the characters and their back stories.
Love is in the air, and not just for Bella the wedding planner, and her boyfriend DJ, in It Had to Be You. Love brings families together with Italian passion and food. The family is celebrating the marriage of Rosa and Lazarro. Bella grew up with her favorite Aunt Rosa and Uncle Lazarro, and since this is such a huge event, everything had to be just right. Bella hoped to bring to life Aunt Rosa’s dream wedding and reception, and make her aunts’ dream come true. Of course, Aunt Rosa has to help and Bella can’t keep her out of the kitchen. By the sounds of the reception menu, I would love to attend this wedding with the great food and big band swing dancing.
Sparks start to fly - not only in the love department and in the planning of Rosa and Lazarro’s wedding, but between family members as they start arriving from Italy to join the celebration. There are many surprises and things to catch up on!
It Had To Be You is the third book in the 'Wedding by Bella' series. Janice Thompson has captured the essence of the Italian-American family in this series full of love, respect, fun, food and music. Thanks to your books Janice, I've been taken away from the worries of the day and swept into Bella's world, with her and her family, and all the incredible weddings she was contracted to do. It can’t get any better than that...fun, family, food and dancing. I’m there!! Thanks for the memories Janice, great R&R and the spiritual thread that ran through all three books. Janice talked about God, how to love well and how to get close to Him and each other. This spiritual thread radiated in a fun but powerful way in this series. I had so much fun. I can’t wait to see where Janice Thompson will take me in her next series.

If you haven't had the pleasure of reading this series, you really don't know what you're missing! I am so glad I decided to give it a try, as I have seriously fallen head-over-heels in love with the Rossi clan. Let me tell you though, Fools Rush In is my absolute fave book of the series. I like the fact that it focuses on just a few characters, mainly the Rossi family, whereas the other two books are much more hectic.
Go ahead and buckle up, because you're in for a roller coaster ride with It Had to Be You. My emotions were all over the place with this one. One minute, I'm on top of the world, celebrating with Laz and Rosa -- then, I'm ready to knock some sense into Sal's head for causing such an uproar right before the big day.
There were times when I really didn't like some of the Rossi family members, especially when it felt like they were completely ignoring Bella, and seemingly overlooking HER big day. Everything worked itself out in the end, but it was an emotional ride for me (and her!).
It was wonderful making new friends -- I really liked getting to know Gordy, Lilly, and the Band of Gold. Finally meeting 'Uncle Sallie' was great, too. There is so much love in the air, it was all I could do to keep up with who was doing what! Multiple weddings, an elopement, a birth, multiple engagements, and the list goes one. :) I won't say anymore -- I'll let you experience it all for yourself, when you get a copy of your own to enjoy.
