This was a neat little book that is as old as I am. The editor of this collection said in his introduction: "that the poet, the dramatist, the essayist, the novelist, as well as the historian, all may write aptly of Art and Artists." Each of the ten artists are written about by all of the above and each one coming from a different time period as do the artists. There are sixty-four gravure illustrations included so the reader can refer to several paintings of each artist as he reads about the artists. Some were more interesting than others but now I have more familiarity with all the artists and a greater appreciation of them. I purchased this book at a second hand store that categorized this volume as vintage.
