Teddy Bear is having tea, promptly at three and he is inviting all his woodland creature friends.

This is a very cute young children’s picture book written in a rhyming format that works the whole way through. The storyline is something children will adore, as I’m sure most children have a favourite teddy bear.

The illustrations are large, bright, and colourful, although I did find them a little old fashioned, this doesn’t take anything away from how beautiful they are and how much detail has gone into each one.

The book is short and with it rhyming new readers will be able to follow the story with ease, though it works just as well being read out-loud to a none reader or a class.

Teddy Bear Tea is an adorable book that I can see children loving and wanting to read over and over again. I also loved the information at the end of the book that teaches children who invented the first teddy bear and why.

Teddy Bear Tea by Ellwyn Autumn is a children’s book that follows a few friends that meet for tea at promptly three. It is interesting and captivating, and I really loved it!

Teddy bears are usually the favorite companions children have, and this book reminded me of my own teddy bear. The storyline flows very fast and the rhymes are cute. Suddenly, you are in this amazing forest, having tea with the teddy bear and its friends. There is laughter and fun, and there is happiness and joy.

“Deer, chipmunks, and snakes,
With berries, tarts, and cakes,
Came together beneath a tree,
With Teddy, Rabbit, and me,
For tea at promptly three.
It was a grand sight to see!”

The illustrations are adorable and reminded me of the old-school children books that I used to have when I was little. They are very vivid with bright colours, and I know that children will love watching them and identifying the teddy bear and its friends.

Something I really enjoyed as well was the font that was used in the book. It was captivating and it looked really nice. I also loved the decoration it has on the first capital letter of each page.

I definitely recommend it that you read this with your children and let them explore the images. Teddy Bear Tea is the perfect book to leave a positive feeling, right before bed time.

"Teddy Bear Tea" is a very cute book written in rhyme. The story is short and brightly illustrated, making it perfect for younger preschool readers. The pictures are adorable and go along well with the story about all the forest animals getting along and coming together at 3 for tea time.

Forest friends dress to impress for afternoon tea at promptly three.

Teddy told Rabbit, and Rabbit told me, to meet them at three for afternoon tea. How exciting a feast with dancing in the forest, a chance for all the woodland creatures to meet up with their friends. The stunning illustrations bring the forest feast to life, and the words flow rhythmically throughout this enchanting story.

I downloaded a copy upon its release and I was delighted how well it translated to kindle. The text was clear and easy to read. There is a nice touch at the end giving a little bit of history about the creation of the teddy bear. This is a wonderful story to share with a young family.

Teddy Bear Tea is a charming picture book that does more than display friends who celebrate time together. The book offers a fun experience that will hold children’s attention and will also prepare them for reading and writing. The author’s insight orchestrates everything a few different ways. Autumn utilizes physicalities, like book dimensions and illustration choices, and also story elements like plot, setting, and story in rhyme, to provide children with a sense of peaceful freedom while providing them preparation for literacy.

The dimensions of the book are 11.02x0.25x8.5 inches for a reason. Because the book is wider than it is high, it is especially suited to narrative illustration with a focus on setting: the forest. In Words About Pictures, The Narrative Art of Children’s Picture Books, Nodleman says “The size of a book influences our response to it. We expect rambunctious, energetic stories from large books” (44) and Autumn’s story is large enough to do that. Nodleman adds that when a book is “wider than they are high” the illustrator is able to “fill in the extra space around the people they draw with information about the places they occupy—their setting” (46). When there is more detail about the area, viewers “learn more about the characters” (46). Even though Teddy Bear Tea features beautiful forest pictures and cute animals, viewers are likely to focus on characters.

The colors of the illustrations allow for a rich, freedom and quiet peaceful experience. Color choice of mostly greens, blues, and yellows have special effects. The illustrator, Glebova, uses a great amount of green and brown color for the forest, indicating a richness of nature, which adds to the freedom and peaceful element, besides it is lovely, capturing children’s attention (61). The yellow and blue colors add an element of cheerfulness and serenity (60). The fact the pictures are without frames makes a difference too. Frames create a feeling of being closed in, which has its positive effects. Having no frame adds to the feeling of freedom (50). Most of the picture pages take up the whole page except for one with four panels on that single page. Here, the panels show four different animals receiving their invitation to the tea.

The illustrations are colorful and peaceful, but the main thing to understand is the intention behind them. A richness of nature in a forest provides mood through something beautiful to look at, while also scattering a sense of freedom. Nature is wild and spansive. It’s an environment with plenty of room for children to stretch and run around, and yet, a forest is peaceful and quiet too. These are desirable elements for children at bedtime, or who need to settle-down.

Plot offers celebration with friends. Autumn tells her story through the point-of-view of a child who has many animal friends. Whether the child is a boy, or a girl, isn’t revealed allowing any child to step into the position of main character. The story begins with Teddy Bear and Rabbit deciding to meet later that day for tea. They invite other animal friends who show up and the tea turns into a party that lasts “Until night overtook the day, And we could stay no longer.” At the end, Teddy Bear and Rabbit recall the tea with a reminder they get to do this again, indicating they are sad the tea is over. They will miss each other. By supplying the reminder, Autumn adds another type of comfort and peace. Children are reminded they too will have fun with their friends.

Teddy Bear Tea is good as a read-a-loud book. Autumn’s decision to tell the story using rhyme increases the fun. Rhyme captures and holds children’s attention while developing their phonological awareness. Reading and spelling becomes easier, and connects with visualization skills. Notice how pleasant and lyrical Autumn’s word choice is in an exert from the story:

With a big smile on my face,
I quickened my leisurely pace.
Following her firm command,
I took up the task at hand.

To further attract children’s attention to the words, Glebova enhances them by including hovering illustrations. For example, a blue butterfly sits directly above the word “With” from the first line of the paragraph verse “With a big smile on my face,” and a small straw hat below the whole paragraph stanza on the lower right. Children will notice these and even point them out.

Children will like Teddy Bear Tea, as well as parents and teachers because its charming, offers a sense of freedom, and has the ability to teach. Its obvious thought went into both the story and the illustrations. If this weren’t enough, Autumn supplies historical information about how the Teddy Bear came to get its name. At the end of the book is insight to America’s former president Theodore Roosevelt. Because he refused to shoot a bear, most stuffed bears came to be known as “Teddy Bears.” A recommended picture book.

Teddy Bear Tea by Ellwyn Autumn | Review | A delightful children’s picture book that is simple enough for young ones, but has a deeper message for adults.

I loved this book as much as my grandchildren did. The rhymes are simple with a nice cadence. The story warms your heart with its simplicity and inclusiveness.

Tanya Glebova illustrated Teddy Bear Tea and did a fantastic job. The pictures are vibrant, colorful, and pop off the page. Her attention to detail add so much to the book.

Included at the end of the book is a page of history and background on the Teddy Bear. I found this addition very informative and relevant to the story.

I highly recommend Teddy Bear Tea to anyone that reads to children, libraries, daycares, and collectors of picture books.

"Teddy told Rabbit, and Rabbit told me to meet them at three for afternoon tea."

The very first line was so familiar to me. The initial rhyme reminded me of the classic Chicka, Chicka, Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. So I was hooked from the beginning. The stunning illustrations brings this afternoon tea to life, and the storyline is simple enough for young ones to follow along. Ellwyn Autumn's rhyming cadence is gentle and soothing.

What I loved about this book the most was its message about acceptance. All woodland creatures were invited. In a time of great division and less and less social interaction this story was a much needed reminder of how we all can come together to enjoy a simple afternoon tea.

Sweet book! Great book to read with your little ones. The illustrations are cute and feature memorable and easy to recognize animals. When your kids ask you what animal is that and you shrug your shoulders and say a squirell? It's means the illustrations quite frankly, stink. You won't find that with this book. For those who can't read yet, the pictures tell the story. This will become one of those nightly ritual books in your family. It's just the right length.

Let me start by saying how beautiful the illustrations are in this book, the details, colors, the way they add to the story is wonderful and sure fire way to keep children’s attention and fuel their imagination.
The story itself is so cute. The rhyming makes it flow beautifully. And the added history of the teddy bear at the end is just icing on this perfect cake.
I highly recommend this beautiful book!
