This is a sweet, fast-paced story. I liked the characters and enjoyed getting to know them. I wish the book were a little longer to further explore the character’s backstories. This is the first book by this author I have read and it won’t be my last.
Love it! An exciting story full of hope and second chances. I really enjoyed the story and the characters as well. It was great to see what hope and faith can accomplish even in the worst of situations. Definitely recommend! And a great read for animal lovers as well!
This is my first book by Jeanne Bannon and I loved it. As a warning, it is short! I work with animals (vet tech here) and think she did an amazing job with how the human and animal characters acted. I wish the story had been longer if only to delve deeper into each character's backstory. For me, the fact that it was well edited was a huge plus too (weird but I have problems when timelines aren't followed!). I am already looking for next Jeanne Bannon book to read!
Pressley James finds her dream job—working as a social media marketer for Paws and Claws Animal Shelter. On her first day at work her new boss, Janet, informs her about Hayden and Jasper, warning, “…both are off limits!”
Janet describes Hayden as “quite the looker,” and “the only full-time fella.” But he keeps to himself and Pressley needs to respect that.
According to Janet, “Jasper’s a lost cause. We don’t like to see any animal put down, but sadly, there’s no hope for him.” Jasper is a German shepherd/mastiff mix that will bite anyone who comes near him.
However, Jasper seems to like Pressley and Hayden gravitates to the young woman, too and begins to open up, something he hasn’t done since his fiancé, Shaun, died in a traffic accident two years prior.
Last Chances, a novella by USA Today best selling author Jeanne Bannon, tells about the romantic story of Pressley and Hayden and their mutual love of animals. Their effort to save the life of a loveless dog is inspiring.
Set in a small town in rural South Carolina, Bannon does a superb job of character development showing readers the lives of her three main characters and how they relate to each other.
If you love YA romance and looking for a quick read that will keep you riveted from page 1 to page 132, Last Chances is highly recommended.
I rather enjoyed this cute story about last chances. Of course, I am a sucker for contemporary romance in general. And the fact that the setting was a no-kill animal shelter certainly didn't hurt.
All of the main characters were very distinctive individuals with their own quirks, with whom I found it easy to make a connection...
Most of the action of the story was back and forth... The whole concept started getting real annoying before too long. But since it was used as one of the major plot devices, it would have been hard to avoid.
I found quite a few things to be rather implausible...
Overall though, it was a quick, fun, clean, and (eventually) uplifting tale. One that I would definitely recommend for dog lovers and romantics alike.
I received a free eBook copy of this title from the author for acting as a Beta reader.
A book about the chances life gives us, Last Chances was a clean, quick read. There is one quote in this book which I honestly think can quote up this entire book and make a person want to read it: **"The three of us used to be singular puzzle pieces, all looking for the rest of the pieces, so we could fit together."**
Now my only complaint about this book, I wish we would've gotten to learn more about Pressley and why she suffered from anxiety, or what makes it worse to cause panic attacks. What happened in the past that made her need to go see a therapist?
Who would have thought that Pressley's love of animals would bring a wonderful man and dog into her life. She never liked her job before coming to Paws and Claws shelter but work was more exciting after meeting Jasper and Hayden. Yes, it took a lot for Pressley and Hayden to help Jasper to be a loving, loyal dog instead of fighting anything and almost anyone who got close to him. But he brought 2 lonely people together, he helped them both learn to give love a second chance . I enjoyed reading this book
Anyone who is an animal lover is going to love this story. I loved how the author builds the story interacting with a well blend in how the human and animal. Jasper stole my heart from the first few pages, Hayden took a little longer. This is a very touching very short story. It is a feel good book that makes you warm and fuzzy. The romance is sweet, the animals adorable. If anything it needs to be a little longer.
Brilliant tale that any animal lover would enjoy! The journey to save an animal that has been deemed unredeemable has never been more perfectly illustrated. It takes a special breed of human to be able to look beyond personal danger and/or injury. The entire set up of 2 people with their own life issues crossing paths with an animal that has its own trauma is a great premise for this romantic tale. I found this very entertaining and glad to have read this!
What a wonderful story!!! While short, it was such a sweet read all about second chances! I loved that animals were a main part of the story, as a veterinary technician animals are my life and the Author did a fantastic job with Jaspers story! If you are an animal love and love sweet romances then this is the book for you!!
this book was just amazing! sad but still awesome! she gets a new job a pet place and meets first him who is still getting over the loss. she meets the dog no one wants due to his past. now she wants the dog for her own.
An amazing story for any animal lover! The unredeemable aren't always as unredeemable as they seem. And two people who are having their own issues come together and save this amazing animal. A really sweet romance. Loved it. My first book from this author. Definitely checking out more of her work.
Even the most difficult need a second chance. Some have been hurt so bad it's very hard to get past self defense mechanism. They need the right person to help them heal. When found that person can save their life. Very sweet love story.
This was a short, sweet read about second chance. I enjoyed it very much and I loved how the animals played such an important role. Definitely good if you're looking for a feel good romance.
Quick little read that tugs on your heartstrings. Pressley is very shy and a bit of an introvert. She's got anxiety and its difficult for her to deal with sometimes but she manages. She is starting a new job at a pet shelter. Its a job she doesnt need but wants to be close to pets. She's given 2 warnings. Stay away from the handsome Hayden and the dangerous dog Jasper. Hayden has experience loss and heartbreak. His fiance died a little over a year ago. He's not quite over the hurdle. He's kept to himself and never lets anyone else in. Til he sees Pressley and sees her petting Jasper. Will these 2 wonderful souls be able to get over their hurdles and save Jasper? Perhaps this is not just last chances for Hayden and Pressley but Jasper too?!
It was a sweet story and I enjoyed it. It was slow moving and wasn't so quick to be a HEA til the very end. I still have a few reservations about Hayden being over Shaun. He talked about her a lot and still experiences stages of grieving. So, I was not on board with him and Pressley for awhile. I guess I was kinda protective of her character. Not something I normally do but you know some characters speak to you and she did. They both grew on me though and it was a satisfying ending. Even if I wasnt very happy with this Dr. Graham and Janet. Just sayin.
