When Christmas comes for the four March girls, there is no money for expensive presents and they give away their Christmas breakfast to a poor family. But there are no happier girls in America than Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy. They miss their father, of course, who is away at the Civil War, but they try hard to be good so that he will be proud of his 'little women' when he comes home. This heart-warming story of family life has been popular for more than a hundred years.

They were poor, so sisters were not interested in a Christmas. However, I think we can enjoy that day without presents and luxurious meals. At the end of this book, this family enjoyed that day by themselves. Meeting someone such as friends and family and talking with them are made me happy without presents. I think these are the best presents for everyone.

1. I hope this was a wonderful story! Those March girls are cute in their own ways. 2. This part is lovely and I don’t want to spoil.
Me, picking up Little Women from the library: What kind of abridged bullshit is this?? Small print on back of book: “Text adaptation by John Escott”
I borrowed this book from the library and had certain expectations. I was firstly very surprised at how small it was. And then, a week later, I realized that what I borrowed was only part of story and was actually a text adaptation. Hence my disappointment at the lack of story depth and length. The actual book, according to Wikipedia, consists of 759 pages. I have now reserved this legit version of the book from the library. But in the meantime, here is my short review of this version of the book.
Little Women stars The March sisters, Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy. The girls live with their mother, while their father works out of town. They get by, but they are by no means living a life of luxury. They can’t afford any gifts for Christmas, but the girls make a pact to save up a little bit of money and spend it on gifts for their mother, who does so much for them.
Yada, yada, yada… they befriend the boy next door, whose family is very well off. Their father falls ill, and their mother goes to care for him. The boy’s tutor helps take care of the girls and makes sure they are safe.
Some romance takes place, which is interesting for two of the four girls. But the story lacks so much detail, you could hardly call it a romance.
I’m very much looking forward to reading the actual book. I would not recommend this adapted version of the story (written by a man, no less).
This book originated as a novel by American novelist Louisa May Alcott. Louisa May Alcott based this book on her own family's experiences, in which she and her three sisters played the March sisters — LITTLE WOMEN tells the story of the March sisters, Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy. The sisters spend the majority of their time with their mother, Mrs. March, because their father is away at war. Mrs. March is being assisted at home by Hannah, who is more likely to be an old friend than a servant. Each of the March sisters has a different personality and interest. Meg is feminine, Jo is more likely to be a boy, Beth is a shy cat person, and Amy is the most cheerful and a little selfish of the siblings. Their mother, Mrs. March, keeps teaching his daughters good things, especially helping others. With their mother's guidance, all of the sisters continue to support one another. Their lives became more meaningful when the sister met Laurie, their neighbour. The plot concludes with Meg and Mr. Brooks confessing to each other. Oh, and by the way, I think Laurie's character, like the film, fits Timothée Chalamet very well. #review40
I remember reading this book when I was young--it was one of the books that made me enjoy reading from a young age. This book is about love--family love, love between friends, love between neighbors & people around us. It is a heart-warming story that makes us reflect on our relationships with others. The March sisters and Laurie and his grandfather teaches us that love can only exist when there is courage, respect and sharing(weather material or emotional sharing--most of the times, both) and gratitude. I think that almost everyone had read this at least once in their childhood, since it a very popular, well-known book. But I recommend you to read it again, now as an adult, or a teenager, and experience the warmness you felt before as a child again; the warmness that tells you the world isn't entirely a bad place to live.
A brilliant semi-autobiographical book about Louisa Alcott and her family. I do recommend watching the 2019 film "Little Women" because it added bits from Louise's real life, but Louisa did make the book a little more sweet to fulfil USA 19th Century expectations. In fact she in a later book got Jo married, because her publisher told her to! Louise's father was a feminist who encouraged Louisa to publish her book because he thought she would be a successful writer. All four sisters were talented. Two of them later pursued careers despite being married. Lawrie is undoubtedly based on their lifelong family friend Thoreau.
okay so this version that i read was a children’s book (because i needed something fast and easy to get me out of my reading slump) and you can tell from the pacing and the words used that it’s that, a children’s book to teach reading.
like i love the story and everything but it was too fast paced here and the sentences were so weird next to each other it just didn’t work, but hey! i managed to finish a book and i call that a win
Tried this as an Audio book. First one yet. Really liked listening to an audio book. It’s great to listen to a book while doing something else. The story wasn’t bad, but it had a lot of flaws for me to give it a higher rating. Will be reading the original later on.
I first came across 'Little Women' as a picture book when I was a kid, and I still remember it. The story was just so heartwarming. It’s such a charming tale with lots of great lessons, making it a classic for everyone!
