My expectations were modest and were blown away. This book was a gift and happened to be the only one I had on hand after finishing The Tale of Three Kings more quickly than I expected. What God does with these "accidental" transitions!

This book struck a profound balance and had a lot in common with The Tale of Three Kings. The balance of which I speak starts with convincing the reader from Scripture that we are favored and treasured and that God has a plan for our lives. Lots of authors and churches start there and have managed to chip away at the notion that God is always angry with us and wants to give us just enough to get by. What makes this book different and balanced is that Renner is also willing to point out the Bible's instructions on our part in bringing about the vision for our lives. He talks about the refinement process, about faithfulness and small things, and about diligent habits.

In addition to striking a needed balance on a conceptual level, he puts flesh on his principles with character studies. He uses characters from the Bible and God's ongoing work in his own life to show how God continues to prepare us to be used for His greatest glory. His knowledge of the Greek and Hebrew languages, for me, gave added depth to stories like David's and Paul's that we already know the outline of.

I would recommend this book for almost anyone. If you do not believe that God cares enough to want more for your life that you do, read it and be filled where you are empty. If you believe that God blesses you in order to leave you overstuffed and happy and waiting for heaven, read it and be challenged. If you know that God has a plan for you and are in the process of seeking more specifics, read this book and learn how to listen and how to act in faith, ready for that time when God's best for you will begin to unfold.
