Words are more than just a collection of letters and sounds. They beckon us down the pathway to new ideas. They make it possible to share thoughts and feelings. They can make us laugh. Or cry. Words unlock the door to imagination, whisk us away to worlds of endless wonder and transport us to places we've never been. This book, with its simple, success-oriented structure, can be the first step for a child you love in transforming strange shapes on a page into those most magical of Words. Grade Kindergarten/Grade One
For new readers or those learning to read, this one is a must. Along with the Elephant and Piggie series by Mo Willems and the Flip-a-word series by Yukiko Kido, this one is great for rhyming words and has lots of little stories that are fun, funny, and most importantly easy enough for young readers to get and feel great about getting. The illustrations are nice too and make it engaging for less enthusiastic readers. While some of the names are strange in order to rhyme (Bet? really?), it's nice to have so many word families represented in one book. This is one my son wanted me to read and then when we opened it up, he decided he wanted to do it himself- and he did.
Colorful images complement simple text to make this a great choice for developing readers. The word families and word repetition are especially useful. Read the full review.
