Simon Adams is certain of what he's not: he's not one of those dead-beat Dads. He's a thoroughly modern "involved" Dad. Watch him stagger through the pee, the poo, and the puke in a sleep-deprived haze. Observe as he becomes a second class citizen in his X-chromosome controlled domicile. And feel as Simon tries to juggle career ambitions and his family in an act worthy of the best circus performers. No, you're not alone; this is what it's like for everyone.

Full disclosure, of course: Andi Watson is a friend and I have worked with him as the editor-in-chief of SLG Publishing, where many of his works have been published.

Andi Watson has that keen gift of depicting life and his characters' struggle to understand it. In this book, Simon is learning to be a father, trying to balance his desire for fulfillment in his work and his family's financial needs with the time he wants to spend with his three-year-old daughter Cassie.

I am not a parent, though of late I've been considering it as I near 30, and Little Star confirms what I suspect -- that the experience is terrifying and exhausting and completely exhilarating at the same time. It's become something of a cliche to write that Andi can depict complex emotions with just a few brush strokes, but that is because it's true. His art has a richness that the word "minimalist" doesn't capture. He knows how to distill expressions to their essence, to frame events with emotional significance, and above all, to tell a good, subtle and quiet story.

Although I typically enjoy Andi Watson's work, I was definitely underwhelmed by this one. The astronomy lesson didn't tie in to the narrative as strongly as I would've liked, and the emotions were heartfelt but not able to connect to me.

I still love his artwork, and it had some nice moments - bad times, good times, confusing times, joyous times. It reflected life, but it didn't come through clearly enough to really sing to me.

"Ser padre es lo mejor que te puede pasar" es tan cierto como decir"Y fueron felices y comieron perdices".La parte fea de la paternidad,la que nadie quiere revelar,es que nunca estas preparado y ni siquiera tienes garantias de estar haciendolo bien.Esa vergonzosa realidad es la que plasma Andi Watson.

If I wasn't already wholeheartedly against ever having children, this book would have made me realize how awful it would be to have them. I found this book to be extremely frustrating to read because every time Cassie would start screaming that she wanted something, I felt like I was being interrupted. And, why are two adults only working part-time jobs? How is this even possible with hospital bills, buying a new house, and paying for three people to eat? Can they even afford insurance for themselves, their house, and car? I found this story to be extremely implausible, frustrating to read, and, frankly, poorly written and drawn. Are we sure this was meant to be a graphic novel?...

graphic novel. very enjoyable. simple story of a modern day father and dilemmas he is facing: work versus stay-at-home, extreme love for child versus frustration... we go through the different stages of pregnancy, delivery, no-sleep, start of day care... the daddy version. some aspects very touching.
graphics very simple, well done, easy to read, in keeping with story.

What is it like to be the father of a three-year-old little girl? "It's a very long shopping list of contradictory emotions often experienced simultaneously," says Andi Watson. "I'm more patient and more frustrated. I'm a prince, a fairy godmother, a tickler, a monster, a bather, a grump, a pushover, and a storyteller." Mostly, he says, "It's good."

Beautifully understated storytelling! At once true to life and meditative - there are a lot of complex ideas expressed so clearly here, I'm a little in awe. I love that this story has no bad guy, no easy answers. It's just - life. I also love the astronomy woven throughout, it ties together everything so perfectly by the end. So glad I bought this gem when I saw it!

A book about the struggles of being a parent. It focuses on a guy who had a good life until his daughter was born, its kind of sad. At the end he realizes hes okay with everything and they have another kid. I thought this book was kind of stupid.

This probably wouldn't be such a fantastic book if only we had more "normal" graphic novels like it. This said, it's very good, and if you are of "breeding age" (20+) you really want to read it.

A short and sweet book about one man's attempt to define for himself the word "father."

Je comprendrai certainement mieux les propos et la réflexion développée dans cette BD, quand je me retrouverai (si je me retrouve) dans la même situation...

I love Andi Watson. I really do. But he needs
a) to learn the difference between "its" and "it's", and
b) an editor that knows the difference between "its" and "it's".
