Hexed, Vexed, and Undersexed: Trials of a Salem Witch

Rate this book
They say you learn something new every day. . .
I learned that reality tv isn’t real.
To undo the curse that was placed on my family centuries ago, I must compete in the human game show called Modern Day Witch Hunt.
The prize: Mother Shipton’s grimoire.
The irony: only a spell from its pages can reverse the hex.
The stakes: my family will lose all their magical ability without that spell.
All I need is a new hairstyle, a new name, and a complete personality change—easy, right?
Throw in a fake-ass broom and a black cat with a little magic, and I have this competition in the bag.
Nothing is going to stop me from winning back my family’s long-lost grimoire.
Nothing. . .
Except maybe the asshole whose family hexed mine.
WARNING: This is a reverse harem comedy starring a witch-bitch turned hippie, a sexy 'on-screen' coach, one arch rival with a wand up his ass, a few surprises, and plenty of spells waiting to go wrong.

I just read another series by this author and I gotta say it was a lot better. The concept of this one was exciting and new but it felt like things were too rushed. So much was packed into the book even the reality show felt fake and forced. While I do enjoy the idea of a hippie witch, I wish the heroine would have had more time to live up to her persona. The guys were OK but didn't feel like much relationship development happened aside from them all sleeping together. OK read but not my fav.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this one. One author I know is over the top and the other I haven't read enough to decide. This team up works and I look forward to the Glitter and ghosts books. It was enjoyable, smooth and made me laugh. It had just the right amount of humour, embarrassment and story.

I liked Nora, she was a nicely balanced character, not whiny and not damsel in distress. I also liked that she wasn't no filter. That was left to Gram Gram. It did feel a little quick with the contestants getting axed after all the set up. Poor Gandalf. I'm still imagining a group in halloween costumes.

Three guys for. I felt sorry for Preston, he was the first on the scene, the only human and the chemistry was there from the start. Also prohibited as contestants and staff aren't allowed to mix. I liked that he made his intentions known from the start and how adaptable he was. It was a shame he was the human in the group and not allowed to forget it.

Kai was the surprise. I'd thought there was something possibly shifter about Binx. I liked the cat, but the man is even better and crafty. I liked how they were connected and I'm pretty sure he's the smartest out of the bunch.

Then there is Bellamy. The enemies to lovers part of the book. Or the hate on the outside with thoughts of sex., because they're from rival families. Its where the jealousy, awkwardness and maybe hate sex comes in. The last trial was great, both the tossing each other in hot water and the end result.

HEA ending with the typical L word declarations and a ring on a finger. It was fun and it was enjoyable. But the less known about Gram's belfry the better.

I have given an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This was a fun fast-paced read with a lot of cheeky witch puns just in time for Halloween. The story is light humor focused read with a side of hot guys. I was particularly amused by the bad person's name! So if 2020 has you down this will be a nice pick me up.

I 1000% love this co-write between A. J. Macey and M.J. Marstens. I laughed out loud with Nora, Preston, Kai, and Bellamy. I absolutely love this book and it will definitely be a favorite of mine for a long time to come :)

I hated this book. The FMC is constantly talking to her ovaries and referring to herself as a witch bitch. Either of those things are fine to add a dash of character, but not when it is done ad nauseam and that is the extent of your character development. The story is sloppy too, with direct contradictions of major plot points. . Then, of course, there is the fact that Evanora is completely unlikable. Then the relationships are awful. It's definitely a traitorous body (or rather traitorous ovaries) for this story. The relationships are entirely based on sex and no substance. They don't know each other at all, and it doesn't seem to matter. This will probably put me off reading either of these authors ever again in the future, I hated it that much.

Okay story

I read to escape a bit from everyday life. When an author decides to put her/his political views on the storyline they've lost me as a reader forever.

Oh my goddesses! I am bewitched by this book. This is a fantasy, steamy, reverse harem romance. There's also a lot of silly fun with puns that made me cackle with delight. I like how the movie "Hocus Pocus" was referenced several times, and now I need to watch it again. It also has a fun mix of historical things, but I wouldn't recommend this as a historical reference. I like how the Salem witch craze was inspiration for the plot.

Evanora and her Gram-Gram are both sassy, snarky, and hilarious. Their banter is almost as much fun as Evanora's conversations with her ovaries. I also like the guys. Kai is a hot, protective, magical man. Preston is a dimpled, hunky helper. Bellamy is the witch who scratches Nora's itch (in the best way).

I think my favorite thing about this merry little book is how the moral tale is brewed into the silliness. These two authors did an excellent job of examining prejudice - not just with religion - while entertaining. Having said that, my least favorite thing is how politics were snuck in. If I wanted to read about politics, I would read some political science.

Unfortunately, there is an overflowing cauldron of typos. It's mostly possessive forms and plurals being used interchangeably. There's an instance of Mindy being Mandy, as well as a few altars being alters. I had to read several sentences a couple times to make sense of things.

I decided to pick this one up because I love witchy reads, but I was really curious about reading a reality tv show. I’ve enjoyed Marstens books and humor in the past, but pair her with Macey and it was quite a ride!
Evanora and her family, the Porter’s, are hexed with very little to no magic while the Putnam’s are thriving from the feud centuries ago. A Porter, a Putnam, and four other contestants compete on Modern Day Witch Hunt for Mother Shipton’s grimoire that has been lost since the feud started.
My favorite character had to be Gram Gram. Oh my, she’s so outspoken and everything that comes out of her mouth is amazing and hilarious. Out of the guys, I don’t think I had a favorite one unless you count Jake and Chance who aren’t within her harem, but still play a big role in the story. They had bubbly, yet snarky personalities and they were just perfect together.
This book was filled with humor, steam, pop culture references, and tons of witchy puns. The twist kind of threw me for a loop- I knew something like that was coming, but it still felt like it came out of nowhere. I wish this wasn’t a standalone, but I do look forward to Marstens and Macey’s next series, Glitter & Ghosts!

A thoroughly fun read

I really enjoyed this story. The characters were all fun. Evanora was sassy and the guys were all different and hot. Totally loved Gram-Gram too, I love a sassy old bird. The story was fast paced, interesting and fun, with a few great twists in there. Evanora has had to enter a “reality” show to compete for her families lost grimoire. Luckily she has a gorgeous coach to help her, but there is also other contestants to deal with. Including a member of the family that has been feuding with hers for generations, the ones who lost the book in the first place. Throw in a territorial new cat familiar, some very competitive competitors, and some network executive manipulation, and the whole story is a whirlwind of tension both good and bad.
Loved this as an October read.

Cute and funny stand-alone

I’ll honest, I try to steer clear of co-writes because sometimes the pairing doesn’t work for me for various reasons. This one was great. The overall flow of the plot and story was consistent and not disjointed or choppy. There were only just a couple of context inconsistencies but nothing major.

I’ve read several of MJ’s books so I knew the steam would be off the charts hot with plenty of snarky commentary from the female character. I don’t know the other author’s work quite as well but I hope to change that soon.

Funny stand alone with plenty of steam, witty remarks, and and interesting plot. I would definitely recommend this book to others.

I’m an hundred percent sure that I would’ve enjoy this book way more if the protagonist didn’t spent half the book talking with her ovaries, the first few times were funny but too much it’s too much you know?

The plot was good, I’m a sucker for books about reality tv and I felt the authors did a good job with this one.
But I’m still not sure about Nora and Bellamy first time it felt a lot like cheating, especially because Nora had all the intentions of keep it hidden from the other members of the harem.

But overall it was a good book, the boys all had different personalities which it’s something a few of rh books nowadays sometimes get it wrong, and I absolutely loved gram gram, wish there were more scenes with Nora and her family but ok.

This book is the perfect Halloween or any time read! It's hilarious, steamy, and has a great plot. I love the Salem witches meet reality TV angle. It makes for an interesting read even without the steam and comedy. Evanora has the best internal dialogue, especially the voice of her ovaries. Plus, her gram-gram and her antics had me rolling with laughter! All the guys bring something different to the table and have clearly distinguished characters. Overall, just a great read from two wonderful authors.

Quick & Dirty Details:
- Paranormal Romance
- Reverse Harem (3 guys)
- Steamy, Fast Burn
- FMC POV
- Standalone

A perfect October/Halloween read!

Omg! This book was amazing!
Wow! M.J. Marstens and A.J. Macey are amazing co-authors!! This book had so many witchy puns and clichés I don’t know whether I laughed or rolled my eyes more. Lol.
Preston is like the perfect guy! Don’t get me wrong, I love Kai and like Bellamy, but there’s just something about Preston that reached out to me.
Omg, Gram-Gram is freaking hilarious! I love her, but I would end up either cringing at the things she said or always embarrassed. Lol. Such a horny lady! 😂
I definitely recommend this book and can’t wait to see what else these ladies come up with!

The perfect book to snuggle up with this autumn. Full of witchcraft, old family drama and more you won't be dissappointed. Evanora has successfully become a contestant and a reality t.v show competing for the main prize, Mother Shiptons grimoire. This book is funny, cute and magical. Along Evanoras journey to break the hex that has cursed her family for hundreds of years she manages to draw the attention of three sexy, competitive slightly possessive men who all want her. It was fun reading the banter between the guy's , and then growing to except each other. I loved the use of Mother Shipton - as she's someone I know about (being english). I loved it.

This was my first read by MJ Marstens and AJ Macey and it won't be my last!! There is a great background world to this story that is definitely well developed and executed along with a great cast of characters eating a truly wonderful book. I was hooked from the beginning and couldn't put the book down until I was done!! Preston, This book is incredibly funny too!! I love a good PNR RH Romantic Comedy and this is one of my favorites I have ever read!! Nora gets her men one by one as she races to get the grimoire for her family and I'm going to let that unfold as it should for you while saying I add them all to my harem!!

Funny sexy standalone!

I love both of these authors, both for being outright hilarious in their writing, so right away I knew this was going to be an absolute winner! I was right, I loved it, Evanora’s internal monologuing was absolutely hilarious. I loved that this book had elements from way back in the Salem witch days, love the witch history and the twists and turns to the storyline involving it. All the characters were amazing - shout out to gram-gram - and I loved that the men were all different in their own way but equally important to Evanora and the story itself. Did I mention I loved it? Because I loved it!

Fun quick read

I loved the idea of a reality TV show as I haven't seen that before. It was funny, entertaining, super fast burn read (can it be anything else with about 250 pages?). I personally would have liked more development relationship and feeling wise - I didn't really "feel" the love but it wasn't just out there like it didn't make sense. If you're fine with a thinner relationship read (usually not what I go for personally) and a fast paced, though an also thin, surface level plot, you'll enjoy this as it's well written for the length. Would if you're looking for a light, quick, and steamy read.

Hexed, Vexed, and Undersexed is exactly what it sounds like: a trashy, smutty, satire that is not afraid to hold back any punches when it comes to witchy cliches.
I enjoyed this book far more than I thought I would and I’m not normally into books that have threesomes let alone foursomes. However, it was done in a way where it was okay to poke fun at it if you wanted to because half of the time the book was poking fun at itself.
If you are looking for a trashy smutty book that allows you just enjoy the book for what it is I would highly recommend this book.
It gave me such Spelled by Betsy Schow vibes with the satire of all things witchy

Old feuds & a long standing hex forces Evanora (FMC) to sign up to the witch equivalent of X Factor. A game full of pointless tasks to win a precious grimoire that could help her break the hex. After a sexual dry spell men seem to also be falling out of the air in the form of Preston, Kai and the thorn in her side Bellamy. Someone that hates her as much as she hates him. This book was just full of laughs though. I literally couldnt stop cracking up all the way through. Her gran was a constant source of giggle. I just loved her and her belfry lol. Such a brilliant read

When Ovaries is a Main Character

I liked the grandmother, cat, and first introduced love interest. The MC and her arch nemesis was not as likeable. The nemesis never did anything to make up for him being an a**hole.

What bothered me the most was the MC constant talk of her ovaries. Other than her, it was a main character. Then I don’t like the constant use of the word pus**. I know it was meant to be freeing, but it’s repeated use was annoying.

The sex scenes were hot. Added a star for it.

OMG....... loved this book! What a great spin on a reality tv show made for witches. Evanora is a sassy witch that does her own thing and has to participate on this show in order to get back her families grimoire. She ends up collecting 3 men along the way which her ovaries are very happy about. 😂 This book was fun, entertaining and lots of steam. If you want to laugh your a$$ off and you enjoy the supernatural then definitely pick this book up!! Fantastic!! 💜🖤

LOVED this book! Hexed, Vexed & Undersexed is a fantastically funny and HOT stand-alone read. Let’s see.. you’ve got a sassy witch, some enemies-to-lovers action (can we say smokin hot? Because it totally is. Pass the water bottle please), 3 hotties, one hilarious gran, a family curse to break and a reality show competition to win! So yeah.. what more could you want in a book? Go on and pick this bad boy up; you won’t regret it.

Hilarious, steamy and exciting

Oh my God. I have not read a book this good in so long. It's so witty and punny and a nice lighthearted change to all the dark books I've been reading lately. I found myself laughing and trying to read faster to consume the story as fast as I could. It is edited very well with minimal typos or misused words unlike most of the rest of Kindle unlimited books. I wish this was a series and I can't wait for their next co-write!

I do love when two authors can collaborate seamlessly, MJ Marstens and A.J. Macey clearly have the same sense of humour!
A very funny, punny read. Evanora is a grump, but a loveable one and with good reason!
Her poor deprived ovaries. The conversations with her deprived lady parts were fun.
A nice few twists and turns in the story with a steamy ending. A fun Halloween read.

Entertaining and hilarious read!

I was so excited to read this book when I saw two of my favorite authors were teaming up. I was not let down in the slightest! The awesomely unique story line made me not want to put the book down and I read it all in one sitting. Nora’s spunky personality was so much fun to read. This book had me laughing out loud at every turn.

Just the witch I needed!

I loved this book! It was funny, sexy and lighthearted. It had everything you could want in a sexy harem, with a dominant hate to love alpha, a sexy human, and an allusive third...I don't want to give the story away too much. I really enjoyed the release this book gave me. I really needed a witch in my life this week and this book was perfect!

Loved the story! Fantastic characters and lots of witchy puns just in time for Halloween. The characters were funny and kept me laughing from start to finish. Nora’s dialog with her ovaries was priceless. Gram Gram is a spitfire hoot. The men are hot, and the chemistry between all the characters was simply combustible.

Fabulous!

Loved it! The witch puns were on point, and had me cracking up all the way through. Evanora was a hilarious, and super thirsty, strong female lead, and her delicious men were wonderful too! Gram Gram was probably my favorite, because she was over the top, and just so lovable. I like how they wove Salem’s past into the storyline.
