The Elimination Diet a 9-Week Plan to Identify Negative Food Triggers, Get Better Gut Health, Get Rid of Bloating & Brain Fog, and Live a Healthier Life.
This Simple Approach Will Have You Saying Goodbye to Bloating and Dieting Forever How many times have you said to yourself, "This will be the last diet I ever go on," only to find yourself giving up after just a week or two? While all of these approaches claim they've discovered the perfect program to get amazing, lasting results, they are all based on a single, widespread misconception. These diets assume that the most important aspect of health and nutrition is the composition of the foods we eat. In reality, recent research has begun to reveal that what matters more than anything is how our individual bodies process food. Think about allergies--you may have them, and even if you don't, there is a huge likelihood that you know someone in your life who does. You may even know multiple, even though only around 4% of American adults suffer from allergies. Compare that to the 15-20% of adults who have food intolerances and sensitivities. Traditional "diets" expect every person's body to respond in the same way to the same approach, when the fact of the matter is our bodies and our reactions to foods are incredibly distinct. What you eat is not only responsible for your weight and energy, but it can also be the root cause of headaches, bloating, hormonal issues, and more. By shining a light on the common foods that may be responsible for a slew of health problems, and the easy-to-follow method for identifying them in your own life, Dr. Todd Strong reveals what the diet industry doesn't want you to see. In The Elimination Diet , here is just a fraction of what you will
And much more. Why put yourself through another grueling diet that will only show temporary results, even if you follow it perfectly? You've spent enough time trying to make your body conform to the demands of diets--it's time to set them aside, and make the lifestyle change that you will benefit from even months and years after the program ends. We've been bombarded with the belief that leading a healthier life requires pain, discipline, and sacrifice, and that failing to change our habits means we aren't trying hard enough. What that really means, is we have gotten so used to ignoring our body's signals that we expect losing weight and feeling better to require suffering. You have the power to change your health by listening to your body, not fighting it... Dr. Todd Strong has offered a concise and well laid out plan for using elimi-nation diet as a plan to ascertain food sensitivities. Over the years I have seen many ways to do this, and although difficult to adhere to, they can be very helpful.
I am a retired nutritionist and homeopath, and I appreciate the author’s field of study. I have been an avid proponent of Functional Medicine for almost thirty years, since Dr. Jeffrey Bland co-founded the Institute for Functional Medicine in the early nineties. Studying the entire human body as a system, functional medical doctors look for the reason for a disturbance or disease, not simply focus on symptom reduction, as does a great deal of our medical establishment.
I am sure Dr. Strong, in his practice, dives into the reason for his patients' gut disturbance, or headaches, or whatever has brought them to his office. The elimination diet is a simple means to an end, and provides useful infor-mation, to provide the patient relief, and quickly. This is because many of our symptoms stem from the gut. For example, there might be overgrowth of bacteria in the small bowel, or perhaps a deficiency in certain gut bacteria, leaving us with a poorly working gut microbiome. Or there may be a high level of histamine, caused by too little (or poorly functioning) DOA (diamine oxidase), which breaks down histamine. All of these can be ascertained by functional testing.
I would like to have seen him suggest some of these possible diagnoses to his reader, so that they can being to research deeper into the reasons for their health issues. But I have to say, for what he did, laying out a working plan for an elimination diet, it works, it's simple, and it’s easy to understand. And he even admits that this diet does not uncover the CAUSE of the prob-lem: “Even if you discover that food isn’t the root cause of your symptoms, you can be empowered by that knowledge, and the clean-eating phase typ-ically changes our diets and makes us healthier anyway!”
Perhaps he has more books lined up to go deeper. Or perhaps the author believes patients need information delivered a bit at a time in order not to be overwhelmed. If so, he could well be right!
I received a copy from BookSprout; this is my honest review -I had a PDF version since no mobi file was available; it was a bit inconvenient. Before reading the book, I had stopped losing weight for some time and didn't know what to do. My lifestyle is IF 20/04, so I ate eggs at 3 pm and supper at 6 pm. I switched eating eggs for a protein bar and started losing weight again. -Food intolerance is rising - true. When I was in primary school everyone had PB & Jam in their lunchbox. When my children went to school, my daughter had to eat in the gym because she is highly allergic to PB, even by smell or touch (skin). Now, PB is no longer permissible in most schools around us. They tested me for allergies when I was about ten, but I was reacting so fast that they did my back, my arms, my legs, and my buttocks. After counting to 150, the doctor told my parents I was allergic to everything... I still am, like touching a raw potato gives me hives. -At first, I was a bit loss because the reports were not explained and I had to go Google everything. I didn't know what IBS or ADHD was or what "maintained hystopathologic and clinical EoE remission..." meant either. -Some of the studies were made with less than 100 patients; some as low as 49. It's pointless unless you have thousands of patients. -At some point in the lists, the author says to get rid of frozen goods. Are we talking about veggies or TV dinners? There is a whole lot difference between the two. -The best practices part is where all the good tips are but most are also considered common sense like don't start anything when it's Christmas or if you're grieving or anything similar. -Editing: One problem I saw was that there were a lot of bold text. My 1st sense is hearing and I felt like the author was screaming at me all the time. -A few times, there is an invitation to download the checklists, templates, etc. You cannot download directly; they want your email address.
As someone who has been challenged with autoimmune issues for many years, I have read many books on the topic of eliminating foods that create inflammation in the body. What I love about Dr. Strong's book is the fact that it effectively simplified down to the basics which creates a confidence that I can achieve better health and wellness using the guidelines he lays out. Understanding the "why" behind how certain foods wreak havoc on our bodies is essential and he explains this in a way that anyone can understand. He describes his approach to an elimination diet as a "clean slate" and that feels very doable. There are guidelines and scheduling tips that take the guesswork out of how to get started and the reintroduction plan is laid out with the same simplicity that removes the confusion of when to test each food that was eliminated. He is very encouraging and motivational throughout the whole book and it made me feel like I could finally do this type of diet to completion so that I know for sure what I should avoid and what foods are safe for my personal body. It wasn't filled with unnecessary, confusing "fluff" and really motivated me to get started. And so far, so good! I'm already seeing benefits after starting the process he describes in this book and I am confident that I will actually find some answers to what foods are good for me and which ones to avoid.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I firmly believe that Dr. Strong has good intentions with this book. In the first part of the book, he comes across as caring and compassionate toward his patients. But this book, unfortunately, has some very serious issues. I found it to be nearly unreadable because of all the errors of grammar, punctuation, and usage. Sometimes, words run together, words are left out, important punctuation is missing, and sentences aren’t split where they should be, creating run-on sentences. The book certainly needs a copyeditor and a proofreader. I did receive an ARC copy of the book, but these problems persist in the preview at Amazon. What he offers may very well be sound, but I found the book too hard to read because of these language issues that could have been taken care of very easily.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
I am so excited to start this journey of elimination! I had the gastric sleeve a little over one year ago & they fixed a hiatal hernia. I have severe GERD. I have lost about 90 LBS so far and would love to know what I can eliminate to keep me on this path and hopefully help with my GERD.

Very informative, and so worth the read. Finding ways to have and make better healthier choices. I am going to recommend this read to my mother. Who has been battling autoimmune diseases for a long time. This will do so well for her. Thank you for this read! So worth the time!
Makes sense if you’re troubled by a nutrition-caused illness or feeling to give it a try. Eliminate all trigger foods and add them back gradually to spot the culprit.
