The beautiful Golden Doodle is a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. First bred less than two decades ago, these now-popular dogs make great household companions. The titles in Barron's Complete Pet Owner's Manuals series make great introductions to the pleasures and duties of pet ownership for inexperienced and soon-to-be pet owners, as well as for older children having their first experiences with pet care. Attractively illustrated and filled with helpful information, these books advise on purchasing, housing, feeding, health care--and where applicable, grooming and training pets. Each book is individually written by an expert--a trainer, breeder, veterinarian, or other animal specialist. Barron's Complete Pet Owner's Manuals cover every popular dog and cat breed, as well as bird varieties, hamsters and other small caged animals, fish varieties for aquarium hobbyists, terrarium pets, and even exotics, such as reptiles, amphibians, and scorpions. All books have 70 or more color photos plus instructive line art.
This is the 2nd book about Goldendoodles I've read; we bring home our new pup on Friday, and I want to be prepared. This one was MUCH better than the first one I read. It had quite a bit more info that was exclusive to goldendoodles (about the type of doodle, their coat type, health issues for doodles, etc...), which was both informative and helpful. There was also much more info on training (house training, crate training, basic command training, etc...) which would be applicable to any puppy and I found particularly helpful since this will be our first puppy (we always adopt older, already trained dogs). I feel about as ready as I will be for our new little buddy to join the family, and am sure I will refer back to this book often in the coming few weeks.
Yes it's strange I read this book AFTER we have TWO of these dogs!!! There was a lot of stuff that had me nodding my head like "that's Sophie or Mollie" and other stuff I was not so sure about. A lot of this rather small book focused on researching a breeder but since we have a great one, none of that was particularly relevant. Still an interesting, quick read on the breed as there isn't much out there on them.
I think this woman thinks dogs are humans. I am not going to make sure that everyone who walks my dog is a member of a dog walkers association. I might even let...gasp...my kids walk the dog!
