The Architect of Kokoda: Bert Kienzle - The Man Who Made the Kokoda Trail

Rate this book
The Kokoda story continues to have a very powerful resonance with all Australians, and this book tells a unique part of it for the very first time. Bert Kienzle's vital role in Kokoda is acknowledged in all the published accounts but until today no one has ever told his story.

Wanted to like this more but just didn’t hit the mark for me. Although it was interesting to learn of the history of how the Kokoda Trail came to be and the man behind it all, I felt quite bored in a lot of parts. Didn’t particularly like the writing style and more than a few spelling/grammatical errors always ruins a book for me.

A factual account of a true Kokoda hero; and very well written. I have made extensive use of this book (with the kind permission of the author) in my books on Kokoda. I have at no time questioned this account as it is backed up by official and non-official documentation. A must read for anyone interested in Australian history, especially those interested in Australian military history and a must have for those keen to learn more about the Kokoda Campaign.

The man who organised the Fuzzie Wuzzie Angels to support the Australians during the Kokoda Track campaign in WW2. My interest is the Kokoda Track campaign and I enjoyed this part of the book. Not so interested in his life before and after that Campaign. I learned some more about the fighting along the Track from another perspective.
