The Healing Musician : A Guide to Playing Healing Music at the Bedside

Rate this book
This guide is for anyone who wants to play live healing music to the ailing at the bedside with empowerment. Learn how, by manipulating the three major principles of music: rhythm, harmony and melody, music can effect the body in five basic ways, both physiological and psychological. This book illustrates what musical instruments are appropriate. You will learn how to assess the patients immediate needs and how to address them. For the more advanced, simple modal theory (to play contemplative chant) and nine examples from the three traditional music strains are included, plus much more.

It was a book filled with great information about how to be a good healthcare musician. It talks about finding the right kind of instrument to play, it taught the proper teaching of how you are supposed to handle things around the patient, what to wear, and such the like. Good information.

If you are a musician or majoring in Music Therapy, I would highly recommend this book. There were many treasure troves of wisdom found within this book.

Allow me to share some of the insights I gained by reading this book:
1). It is the responsibility of the musician to create heaven on earth and to create balance, peace and harmony in the environment.
2). Listening to music that is easy, slow-paced, and soft can facilitate deep breathing and loosen the muscles in the body.
3). Affirmation to Oneself: May my music bring peace and comfort.

These and more are found within the pages of this wonderful book. Please enjoy the read.
