A friend gave me this book while I wrote a high school research paper on the effects of music. I told my friend about it and she borrowed the book. Because of this book, she majored in music education/therapy. It was a very informative and inspiring book.

Music As Medicine is one of the best books I have ever read. It is very approachable, readable, yet is loaded to overflowing with insight, experience, and wisdom that is at once wondrous and frank. I would recommend it to everyone, not just to those considering entering a vocation in the therapeutic or clinical realm. My life has been truly enriched from reading it.

A powerful autobiography into the life and experience of Deforia Lane. For any aspiring musician, therapist or neurological doctor, this is a fascinating read that will take you into the magical world of music and its healing properties to the human brain and body. I urge you to give it a read. You will not want to let it go! Love the story and the way it was shared. Bravissimo!

This came recommended to me by a friend and I am so glad it did. Deforia Lane's tales of being a music therapist was absolutely inspiring. While not all the stories end on a happy note, they truly show the awesome power of music and faith. Loved this book!

I love this book. I read it while in college, majoring in Music Education. The stories and testimonies of Deforia Lane and her patients are inspiring to the soul.

I met Deforia about 18 yrars ago and aquired her book audio recording and video. She inspired me to purchase a Q- chord ( similar to the instrument she used in her music therapy). Since then I have advanced to playing my various harps in the hospital oncology and birthing centers plus nursing homes.

What an incredible woman. I would be insanely jealous of her professional life (opera singer-turned-music therapist) if it weren't for the fact that a lot of her life has been a real struggle. But she's taken it all on the chin, thanks to her faith, dignity and integrity. The book itself lacks structure and direction slightly, but it doesn't really matter because she's so inspiring a narrator.

Whether it's a boost of motivation to do your part in maintaining your marriage, a renewal of drive to continue worshiping the God you love, or simple career guidance that's needed: it's all here - and in a very whimsical and accessible style, too! Enjoy and reread as often as needed.
