If you're not familiar with my books, I write mystery-suspense novels. I am LDS (Mormon) and so are some of my characters, but I have loyal readers from many different faiths. My goal is to engage the reader in my books. I want to make them laugh and cry and worry and dread the end.
Most of my books are set in the fictional town of Haggerty, Georgia - which is loosely based on my grandparents' hometown of Headland, Alabama (the most wonderful place on earth). Each book has an ample supply of romance, suspense, Southern hospitality and even recipies!"
This one is definitely better than the 2nd one. I think I almost liked it better than the first one this time around. I didn't find Savannah nearly as annoying as the last book. I still struggle with Green's interpretation of people. I don't think a general and/or FBI agent would be nearly as easily bullied/manipulated as in these books. There are a lot of problems I see in a similar regard. I think she just played too free with reality for me. I rounded down, because I just don't see me keeping my hard copies of these books.
2014 This one made me go back and change my rating on the second book to 3 stars. I liked this one much better than the 2nd book, but it still wasn't as good as the first. There were things that I felt were left either hanging or too quickly resolved, which is why I couldn't rate this one 5 stars. It disappointed me a little in this author. I have always really enjoyed her work. That said, I enjoyed the series, but the first one is the best by far.
This series ended up as a disappointment. There were too many things that were unbelievable. The main couple had no "spark". I had a very difficult time believing they were attracted to each other. Also, having read these books in close succession, I think there is one character who came back from the dead. . . I may have missed an explanation, but near the end of book 2 a character is reported as "gravely wounded" and then dead. Savanah even consoles the man's wife. . . The same man then turns up in the beginning of this book alive and well. Did I miss something? I'm hoping I just wasn't paying enough attention, because if that was the case, that is very sloppy writing and even worse editing. I hope someone else can correct me. . .
I really enjoy many other Betsy Brannon Green books. When I was able to buy this series all used I was very happy, and ready for good mystery, suspenseful action, and sweet romance. Sadly this series disappointed me. I would recommend avoiding them.
I liked the first book in this series, but feel like the series went on way too long, which is odd, since there are only 3 books. I think the reason why I didn't like the last two books is that I found it hard to believe that Savannah could be in love with Dane. He is kind of mean and moody and I rarely saw anything good about him, except that he is driven by duty, he sticks by his team and he likes her daughter. There was no real romance between them, if you ask me.
This is the third in this series. I could not put it down. It has suspense, adventure, mystery and romance. I loved it!!! I started this on Saturday morning before work and had it finished Sunday evening. I think you would definitely want to read the other 2 first because I doubt it would make much sense otherwise.
It hurts me to give her such a low rating, but I think that's what happens when you sign a contract to produce a certain number of books each year. This whole series was ridiculously implossible, and the friction she tried to create between the main characters was never believable for me. I was disappointed overall and would not recommend the series to a friend.
While I enjoyed the series well enough, I think I prefer her Haggerty stories better. The heroine in these books was just a wee bit too pathetically in love. I like my heroines to have a more gumption than Savannah did. I liked the supporting characters better than the main ones.
This book was better than the previous one in the series, but there were still times when I had to suspend my disbelief more than I like. While the characters are interesting, they never seemed fully "real" to me. However, there were enough things I liked about the book to keep me reading.
I liked this book better than book 2. Good unexpected twists in this one. Nice resolution at the end -- though she leaves it open enough that she could right another in the series. Super clean romance, good suspence. I had a hard time putting this one down -- i.e. lost sleep to finish it : )
I really like the series this book is in. The end of the last book left me hanging so bad, i threw my book at a wall! This was a really good book. I enjoyed it.
All I could think about in this book is the part in Star Wars where Darth says to his father..."Luke, I your Father..." (It wasn't any better in this book either)
Rated three stars rather than the four I usually give Betsy Green because I don't believe the plot, which does have a lot of interesting twists and turns, is consistent with the characters as portrayed in her other novels. It's a great idea, but just didn't come together quite as well for me. That said, it was entertaining and kept me awake as I listened to the book on CD while driving. I did enjoy it, and love the characters she creates. (Not including any spoilers here!)
This is the third and final book in this series. Most of the characters remain the same so you can quickly dive into the plot. Savannah learns more about her mother and the mystery behind who her father is. She and the “team” must rescue Dane from the clutches of Mario Ferrante. Savannah comes up with an elaborate scheme to free Dane which includes marrying him so she doesn’t have to testify against him.
3.5. Better than the 2nd, not as good as the first. It bothered me that Agent Gray is seen as "the bad guy" almost in this series & especially his involvement with Savannah's mother's situation, where he was shown to be pretty much ok with the mobster's advances. Happy ending, cleanly written adventure.
Book Three of the Duty Series picks up right where book two finished. It is well written with many surprising twists and turns. The characters were well developed and very likable. It was a great ending to a great series.
I’m glad I read this the third In the series. Book 2 drove me crazy. This could have been a 2 book settlers leaving out book 2. Book 2 Savanna was so whiny. And Dane was so ornery. But book 3 moved right along and gave a good end.
Savanah is in danger once again as Ferrante is trying to kidnap her. She jumps out of a moving car to escape and thinks she dreams of Dane being there, but he was. Not that it did her any good. Ferrante is at the hospital and kidnaps her again. In an effort to get Savanah freed, Dane agrees to surrender himself for the release of Savanah not knowing the Rosemary and Chad have helped her escape. Savanah is now safe back at the cabin and regroups the team in an effort to get Dane back. She heads the mission including General steele and the FBI agent Gray. She still doesn't know who she can trust, but gives less focus to the twos involvement and implements plans B and C too, putting her at risk with the meeting of another mob boss. The plan backfires when the mob boss helps her but under his own plan and she is married to Dane, but not how she invisioned. He want to be married only in name. She struggles to accept this and then finds out the Ferrante is her biological father and her mother who she has looked down on was the hero FBI agent and moved her from place to place to protect her. She learns Agent Grays part in getting her mother in the FBI cover job with Ferrante. She testifies against Ferrante and he is indited, but he escapes comes after her and is shot. Then Dane surprises her and tells her that he does love her and they are married a second time to be thorough. caroline and Savanah are going to have a family with Dane and be safe from Ferrante.

This story is about a lady named Savannah McLaughlin. It is the third and last book to the Duty Series and is definitely a great book. She goes through some struggles and ends up suffering from an injury by jumping out from a moving car. She must try to escape from a man by the name of Mario Ferrante. She knows she can't trust this man because he wants her dead. Savannah's love interest is Christopher Dane, a man who has always avoided commitment, but finally declared his feelings for her in a dramatic way. Somehow Major Dane had ended up in the wrong hands as well and now it's up to his team to help get him out of trouble.
They have not made this into a movie, but I would love to see it in one. Maybe one day they may make it into a movie.
This last story to the Duty Series was very good. It was well written and made me kind of sad to think the series was over. You get to know the characters in this story very well and soon get to love the characters. The author is an amazing author and I absolutely love her books. Again, I also really enjoyed this series because it was clean, and didn't have anything inappropriate in the books.
This is the third book in the Hazardous Duty trilogy. I have to say I didn't really like it. I would probably give it a 1 1/2 if I could. That may be because I have been reading really amazing books lately, such as The Book Thief, These is my words, The house at Riverton. So I have to quote Isola from Guernsey, "Reading good books ruins you for enjoying bad books." That is the case with this book. I may have liked it more had I not known better.
All three in the series I could say the same thing about. But I will just focus on this book. The lead female character is weak. She is disgusting at points with how ridiculous she acts towards the male lead. Fawning over him, and choosing to torment him until he relents and decides to marry her. I wanted to smack her and say, "Leave him alone! Stop begging for him to love you!" Yes, I know that he supposedly did love her but just wanted to protect her. But I have to say if a man ignored me and rebuffed me like Dane did Savannah, I would not stay around for it to happen again.
(Genre:LDS fiction/adventure/suspense/romance) This was a quick read and is the conclusion of a three part series by Green. I really enjoyed the characters that Green created and I like the humor they add through personality and dialog. All the questions and turmoil from the first two books are resolved and brought to a conclusion, but a little too neatly for my taste. In the first book, the complicated relationship between the two lead characters is very compelling and the amount of emotional baggage being carried by Dane was really well portrayed and developed. But I felt like all those issues were kind of glossed over in this book and that was a little disappointing. The first book in the series is the strongest in plot, but the last two are still enjoyable, even if they stretch belief a little too far a times. Green always does a great job in making you care about her characters.
I couldn't wait for this book as the first two in the series were both cliff hangers, and I'm a resolution kind of girl. I love Savannah and Dane. They are both difficult personalities (high maintenance) and terrible communicators, but I think that is alot of their appeal. I loved the danger and intrigue although it was fairly predictable and knew how it would eventually be resolved. I think Dane is such a great character and I love the way we know all of his history so we know what he is thinking and how he will react. (we know better than Savannah does) I'm a sucker for brooding, wounded, deeply guarded men. (hello Edward,..hello Jace) Read it in one sitting. (totally forgot it was by an LDS author as there was no reference to anything religious until the last chapter) Fun series!
Really enjoyed the first book, was very disappointed by the second book, but feel like the author redeemed herself in the third book. There were still several cheesy parts and some awkward situations, but at least the characters are back to being likable in this book. I'm still a little apprehensive about the two main characters romantic relationship though. I think Green did a great job showing the tension in their relationship, but not enough affection. At least on Danes part. It's like he's distant and reserved until the very last chapter where he does a 360 and is suddenly all for marriage. I don't know, I would have just liked to see a gradual increase of affection throughout the story. It would have felt a little more genuine.
Book 3 in the series. Least favorite of the 3, but still it was ok. I wanted to find out what happened to the characters and the story line was good. The only negative thing about it for me was it just got too sappy! Cheesy and sappy! The female character just started to get on my nerves and the author repeated the same lines over and over again, for example "blinking back tears..." was said a gazillion times it felt like.. pull yourself together woman! Anyhow it just started to bug me... Im weird that way. Good ending, easy read. Probably a good series to take to Powell. You could read them all one after the other.
I have been dying to finish this series, and I finally got the book plus the time to read it! I love two a.m. reading, hehe! I think this was the best book ever by Betsy. I am in love with all her characters, so diverse from each other, but also very real and believable. Major Dane is my favorite, what a joy this was to read... I loved the many twist and turns, some I figured out others not, I love it when that happens! I really want her to write more stories with all of Dane's team, for I am not ready to let go to the characters that have such a solid place in my heart now.
The series was okay. They are good 'escape' books - easy to read, plot that sucks you in, but pretty quick. Those who know me will be proud to know that I resisted reading the end. I predicted the major things, but had a few surprises.
A couple of notes: I didn't really like the main characters (although I really like the supporting characters). That's probably a carry-over from the second book when I felt like Savannah was so needy and desperate. The relationship was a bit better in this one. Also, I wish I had read the other two more recently.
I was happy to read the final book in the trilogy. It was a quick read and very entertaining. Some things seemed a little far-fetched. Savannah had the entire military and the White house wrapped around her little finger while on her quest to rescue Dane. In this day and age, that seems a little bit too far from the truth. If you don't pay attention to that, though, it's a good story and leaves the reader satisfied. All loose ends were tied up and all conflicts were resolved.
