One. Two. Three cracks of thunder. Three reasons to run and hide.
When the lightning illuminated the night, I saw their bloodied faces. They were no longer the boys from next door. As quick as the storm rolled over the neighborhood, a crime of passion was committed, Lucas and Mason Carter dangerously altering the course of all our lives.
Ten years later, on my twenty-sixth birthday, when detectives come digging for information on a cold case, I find myself once again unwillingly tangled in the spider's web. I hold information on a heinous crime. I have become the number one target. More specific, I have become Mason Carter's obsession .
While one brother seeks to destroy me, I have to believe the love I share for the other could somehow save us all. When running proves futile, I'm left with a choice. Reveal the deadly truth, or dare to take on the monsters lurking in the dark.
💓AMAZEBALLS STARS💓 Monsters by Melissa Jane was a fantastic edge of your seat read. I was going blind with this as I have never read anything by this particular author before. So Originally I wasn't quite sure where this was going to go in terms of plot. but it quickly became apparent that there was never going to be a dull moment with this and I was in a constant state of fright at the turn of events throughout. It was like one of those scary movies where you cant look, but try to catch a glimpse from behind the cushion your hiding behind. With this book, we catch up with Gemma, ten years after she witnessed her neighbours one stormy night doing something that she is not quite sure of. The next day was the last time she saw her best friend Lucas and his monster of a brother Mason who before leaving threatens her life if she breathes a word to anyone. So detectives are digging into a cold case and as such bring a certain old dangerous nemesis back into her life. As events quickly escalate it becomes quite apparent that Gemma life is in danger as Mason ramps up the fear. How long has he been lurking in the shadows watching, her own personal stalker. So that's basically the main gist. Monsters is told in present time and also a series of flashbacks, so you gradually get the full picture. Its a tale of love, obsession and danger that is oh so easy to get lost in. I couldn't put this down and stayed up late into the night to finish. Through Gemma memories, we very quickly feel like we know Mason and Lucas Carter intimately. And as events intensified I was biting my nails so great were my nerves. So the ending here I was happy with and though Monsters was a tad predictable in places I was still suitably shocked with where this went. I feel events of the past have a big part to play in the unravelling of a certain individuals psyche. So Yeh great read this folks. I was provided with an ARC of "Monsters" By the author of which I have reviewed voluntary. All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
~WRITING - PLOT - PACE~ While I enjoyed this one a lot, I will admit I was expecting something darker and more twisted. This was pretty much a straightforward psychological thriller with a touch of romance. Albeit a very well written one. It was also very well paced. The plot was very engaging and kept me turning the pages. I will say I figured out what the "twist" was going to be very early on but that didn't take away any from my enjoyment of it. We jump back and forth quite a bit which would usually annoy me greatly but it worked very well in this instance. The past is also where most of the teen romance aspect of this one takes place.
~MAIN CHARACTERS~ Since this really wasn't a romance there really wasn't a "hero" or "heroine" in the traditional sense. All three of the main characters were intriguing and well developed. I really enjoyed Gemma and Lucas's friendship and budding romance. I would have liked to have seen a little more time spent with Lucas in the present as I felt his and Gemma's reunion and the aftermath was maybe a tad bit rushed. Mason, well Mason was Mason. He was suitably evil and creepy. I think perhaps what he had been up to for the past ten years could have also been fleshed out a bit more.
~SECONDARY CHARACTERS~ There are a lot of secondary characters in this one that all play small roles here and there. They added a nice background and kept the story moving forward. But the plot is mainly centered on Gemma, Lucas, and Mason.
~HEAT LEVEL~ Super Low. There is basically only one semi-explicit sex scene in this one and that isn't until very near the end. Like I mentioned though this felt more like a psychological thriller with a touch of romance.
~ANGST LEVEL~ Low to Medium. All the angst basically comes from Mason and his behavior towards Gemma.
~IN THE END~ I liked it quite a lot. Was it exactly what I was expecting (super twisted and dark), well no, not really. That said, it was a very good thriller that was very well written and paced. Had an engaging plot that kept me hooked. Had interesting characters and an ending that perhaps was a tiny bit rushed, but still left me satisfied. Yours truly gives this one two solid thumbs up and I will definitively be checking out other books by this author.
With a storyline that kept me hooked, Monsters by Melissa Jane was a great story packed with heart-pounding suspense. Gemma, Lucas, and Mason's story was one of secrets, violence, an unbreakable bond, and a dangerous obsession.
I am a fan of this author's cartel series, and this story is completely different yet equally intriguing. Jane is a great storyteller, and I like the way she alternated between the past and the present seamlessly. The characters of the story were well developed. I appreciated how the "villain" of the story wasn't a one-dimensional caricature, but rather, a complex individual who was shaped by his life's experiences. Lucas and Mason each played a huge role in Gemma's life in different ways, and the author did a great job conveying the emotional turmoil that she experienced both as a teenager and later as an adult. I really enjoyed the atmosphere of danger that surrounded Gemma throughout the entire story. Jane is really skilled at creating that feeling of uncertainty with the events of story, because I really did not know what was coming at any given time.
Monsters had a great mix of romance and suspense and the flow of the storyline was flawless. The way the story was laid out and the way the events unfolded made it hard for me to put the book down. I loved the way things wrapped up for the characters in the end. This was a really enjoyable read and I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
Wow. Just friggin’ wow! I am not sure I can adequately convey my feelings regarding this phenomenal story! It definitely deserves much more than five stars!
Although Monsters is dark, I cried like a kid who discovered Santa doesn’t exist! What in the whole wide word did Melissa Jane do to me? She ripped me to shreds and put me back together again by creating an ending I will never forget! Man I’m drained! I can even admit my review is not making a bit of sense and for that I apologize. I’m discombobulated. I’m intoxicated on FEELS. Yes dagnabbit! Me!
Three stories intertwined . Lucas. Gemma. Mason. Their lives irrevocably connected into complicated, dark, dysfunctional chaos. You won’t find simplicity here. You won’t find laughter or ease. What you will find is a hauntingly beautifully written story. A story that will eventually evolve into truth and clarity that will lovingly rip you! I stand in awe!

On a dark and stormy night you witness the unthinkable. Lucas, your best friend. Mason your enemy. Brothers, your neighbors covered in blood. You know what they have done. But you can't speak of it. Because you know if you do, then you'll be next. It's a secret you must bare. Your life depends on it. A case of choosing between life and death. It all hangs in the balance. So the secret is kept deep within. A secret that you will carry. A secret that will haunt you everyday. A secret that you will keep guarded because your life depends on it. If you keep quiet then the past won't come. It will lie dormant, never to be revealed.
But everything is about to change. After ten long years, Gemma is going to finally come face to face with her past. Gemma is finally going to be faced with the monster that tormented her all those years a go. Gemma is going to be faced with the scars that he left. Gemma is going to have to make a choice. Fight or flight?
What will she choose? Will Gemma come clean about what she witnessed? What will be Gemma's fate? But more importantly....... What happens when Mason comes looking for his 'Little Wren'?
An absolute phenomenal read that left me speechless. It consumed my heart and soul. It was all things raw, gritty, disturbing, gut wrenching and pure evil. An edge of your seat read that just kept me guessing until the very end. So full of depth and description I was glued to every page turned. Melissa Jane completely captured me with this novel. A powerful read that I cannot rate highly enough.
Psychological thriller with a bit of romance and whole lot of breathe holding.
I am not a stranger to Melissa Jane's work so I was not surprised by how much I enjoyed this one. There were a few things I wanted more of but overall this was a solid and well done book. Monsters was told between past and present when Gemma is unexpected questioned about a body that was just found 10 years after the fact. The questioning brings up a past she has tried to hide, a brother she has been attempting to forget and another brother who she yearns for.
I really liked how the before and now worked in the story. It made perfect sense and allowed you as the reader to understand what happened all those years ago and why Gemma is scared now. She has plenty of reason to be fearful as Mason is lurking in her life now. He ramps up his presence and has infiltrated her life in ways she never say coming. The psychological aspect of the book had me on the edge of my seat, holding my breath and just waiting for the monster under the bed to come out. There was some intense build up going into the home stretch of this book.
This book wasn't quite as dark as I thought it would be and like I said there were things I just wanted more of. I wanted more of Lucas, while we got to know him through the past I felt like I needed more of him in the now. There were some other aspects I wanted a bit more out of as well but regardless this was an intriguing and suspenseful read that did not disappoint.
It start off slow and I was bored at moments throughout but the elephant in the room kept me motivated to read how it would work out. This was not a dark romance as the dark element was light and romance was brief.
The Carter boys had a tough life growing up. They are neighbors with Gemma and she is Lucas Carter’s best friend. He’s the sweet younger brother to Mason. Mason was angry and controlling and just creepy.
Fast forward 10 years.
Mostly from Gemma’s POV, the past is where most of the clues to the story is fleshed out. The present had some distracting sub stories that didn’t really add anything to the story just as filler. Then as we got toward the end, everything felt really rushed try to fill the gaps and wrap it up. I kinda liked this story and the writing was decent enough to keep me interested half of the time but it was predictable and under developed. Trying to still figure out the “Monsters” titles.
Received an ARC at no cost to author.. Can I start with wow, I felt like I was watching a movie where I jumping all the time..Gemma saw something years ago but wasn't sure what, as the brothers Lucas and Mason leave, Mason the evil one threatens her. Years later the cold case is reopened and poor Gemma's life changes because it brings back the evilness..Keeps you on your toes..
Monsters was hauntingly beautiful read that consumed me from the beginning to the end. Gemma, Lucas & Mason's story is one that is raw, gritty, disturbing and full of secrets. It kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next.
As a teenager Gemma lived next door to brothers, Lucas & Mason. One dark and stormy night, she witnesses the unthinkable. Then the next day, the boys leave town never to be seen or heard from again. That is, until ten years later when detectives go digging up the past. Gemma knows that if she comes clean, Mason will hunt her down and kill her. So does she confess the truth about that fateful night? Will Mason really make good on his promise? What about her love for Lucas? Is it strong enough to survive all of this?
This is an action packed story with a touch of romance that you do not want to miss.
Huge disappointment. In the beginning itself I was having difficulty in connecting with the book, writing style was off-putting and I thought maybe it will deepen and somehow get interesting. I was still bored as I progressed and when this novel ended I was still waiting for that marvellous twist to happen. The tone of the main character is very childish infact all the situations felt too dramatised and cut-off from reality.I am so glad this is over. Die hard fans of mystery and thriller genre please avoid this book. Not ok read.
Monsters is a fantastic story by Melissa Jane. This is quite gripping and full of mystery- it’s a chilling account of murder, obsession, being hunted, lots of danger, shocking abuse, sweet love, heart-breaking grief, fearful stalking, and an incredibly twisted game of cat and mouse. This is my first read by Ms. Jane, and I have to say she nailed the tension and suspense- building the apprehensive feeling superbly. I was on the edge of my seat, avidly reading, trying to figure out what was going on and where the author was taking me. This story starts with a childhood friendship- a young girl and the two boys next door. One is her best friend- the other, her tormentor. On a stormy night she sees something out her bedroom window but can’t fathom what she’d seen. Lightning, thunder, rain, mud and blood- her mind can’t quite process it all. Then the next day the boy’s family up and moves, no goodbyes, no contact. She grows up, makes a nice life for herself- with a great job as a coordinator at a popular art gallery, has a nice apartment, good friends, a wonderful boyfriend, and a loving family. But things unravel quite quickly- strange things and frightening things happen when the police appear to ask her some questions about a cold case they are working on. This also opens up old wound, brings up old feelings- and then the nightmare begins all over again. Only this time she isn’t the timid young school girl she once was. This story was really very good. Ms. Jane delivered all the chills in this gripping tale. I will certainly be looking for more of her work. The story is told from present time, as well as flashbacks into the past. It has quite a few surprises, and I was kept guessing the whole way through the story. There were touching moments, shocking moments and emotional points. I can’t wait to read more from Melissa Jane!
I really enjoyed this intense, edge of the seat thriller come love story. It's an unusual book in that amongst the chaos lies, a beautiful love that branches a decade, through the hurt and pain. It still grows and can never be tainted.
This book drifts backward and forwards in time. Which is needed to get what is really happening. It gives you first hand what happened at the points in time. The Characters are great and although some appear weak, they most defintely aren't. Gemma, Lucas and Mason all play their parts in this sad and violent tale. That shows monsters don't always hide in the dark, they hide in plain sight.
This book is a dark and emotionally exhausting read but what a read it is. I was left gobsmacked on occasion and cheering on from the sidelines in others. This book isnt hearts and flowers. Its fists, torn innocence and a huge fight to survive. Because a promise to remain silent just isnt good enough, when you're not playing by the rules they choose.
This book is a complete recommend from me. I love a good story that leaves you without any questions. Sometimes the truth is enough to set you free.

This 41/2 mind-fuck read really had me flipping pages till I finished it. This book will take you back to ‘then’ and ‘now’ but what really had me was like even though it’s about Gemma, Lucas and Mason I felt like the focus was on more of the obsession than the actual chemistry between the mc’s and it’s why I gave this rating cause it actually took away that most important part. However, the storyline is amazing and the build up of how everything happened to the ending will have you understanding Gemma more but I felt like more could have been added to certain characters and even though it’s a chillingly action of a read I did enjoy it and the secondary characters.
4.5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 Truth: I devoured Monsters in one go. The story is a suspenseful, psychological thriller, served with a side of romance.
The narrative goes back and forth between past and present time. It is clearly indicated at the beginning of each chapter, and it flows smoothly without causing confusion. The story involves three main characters, Gemma, Lucas and Mason. One brother gives her butterflies, the other gives her the shivers- and not in a good way. One stormy night, Gemma is looking out her bedroom window, and she sees something she shouldn’t. The next day would be the last day she sees the brothers, until ten years later. Gemma tried to leave the Monsters of her past behind, but little did she know, they’d always been hiding in the shadows. And now they were ready to come out.
Gripping from the start, Monsters is an intense read that will have you hanging on the edge of your seat until the very end. This is one thrilling ride you don’t want to miss. Dive into the darkness…
Felt like the author missed the mark to truly create a 'monster'. You got a few snipets but nothing really solid. Enjoyed it but need it more dark and twisted.
IMHO this was just an "OK" read. If you're looking for a truly dark, twisted read you won't find it here. It kept me wanting for more, and seemed somewhat predictable. I was waiting for a twist or an "OMG/WTF" moment, but it never came. Maybe this is a YA book and I didn't realize? Or maybe I'm just a sick individual.
With that said, it did keep me reading and wasn't "boring". Just wasn't what I thought it would be.
Cinq colossales étoiles! Ce livre est addictif et sombre. Préparez-vous à être pris dans une toile sombre de mensonges, suspense et drame.
Sweet baby Jesus! I can still feel the goosebumps on my skin. “Monsters” by Melissa Jane is a darkish twisted tale that took my breath far away. I devoured each page with deep passion. I was captivated since I read the synopsis. It screamed at me: “read me right now”. I spent the most pleasurable time while reading this book. I couldn’t stop to bite my nails. It twisted my insides in the most delectable way. My soul is queen on Dark Romance and “Monsters” fed perfectly my darkish cravings.
I can’t imagine a greater delight than reading a book like this. The plot is exciting, unique and well developed. Melissa’s writing is brilliantly addictive. She delivers a masterpiece wrapped in an original and beautiful cover. Everything about this book screams “perfection”. Des livres comme celui-ci devraient être écrits plus souvent! It’s hard for me to only give five stars because “Monsters” deserves galaxies complètes. The narrative goes from past and present and the pace is fast.
The heroine is fragile and at the same time she is strong (a dangerous and powerful combination). She is a complex girl who is trying to leave the past in the past but how could she if it’s coming for her in the shape of her darkest nightmare. The Carter brothers ruined her. While one protected her, the other scared her. She is a confused damsel in need of a knight who can rescue her from the monster in the dark.
Are you team “good-sweet-boys” or “bad-dark-boys”? If you like both of them, Lucas and Mason will ruin you just the same way they ruined Gemma. They are like water and oil. Lucas is the knight all good girls dream about. Mason is the bad boy all the naughty girls dream about. They share the same genes but their souls are highly different. Tenderness versus malice.
So, be prepared for an intense thriller that will have you at the edge of your seat. “Monsters” is the kind of book that literally makes you cried like a baby. I was left drained and emotionally exhausted. The characters are complicated and difficile.
If your soul craves an all-consuming read, this book will satisfy you. I urge you to grab this book. It is a must read you must not miss.
Monsters by Melissa Jane is a suspense-mystery-thriller you won't be able to put down until the last page. This is my first book by this author and I fully enjoyed her writing style. I can't wait to see what other books she has that I can dig into. Her writing style is free flowing, easy reading and pulled me in from the first word. Her attention to details are such that you will feel like you are part of the story. Her characters took me on a journey of twists and turns that I didn't see coming. They left me on the edge of my seat most of the book. This book is written in the past and future and I enjoyed how this author was able to take me back and forth with ease and I didn't get lost at all. This story is about secrets and how far you are willing to go to keep that secret. She is a young woman who grew up next door to two boys. She was best friend with Lucas but not so much with his brother Mason. Then one night she looks out her window and what she sees will change her life forever. A crime of passion had been committed and now they are all destined to keep it a secret. Fast forward ten years and this young woman is just turning twenty-six. She thought she put everything in the past when she left. What will happen when two detectives show up digging for information on Mason and Lucas? Now the past is coming to the present added to Mason's obsession with her. Now she is left with one choice, to take on the monsters that are lurking in the dark. I enjoyed this woman's character. She is strong and determined. Two brothers one is bad and the other is good, she loves one of them. I felt compassion for her because she has been keeping this secret but yet has been through a lot because of Mason. I will say she knows what she needs to do and when she figures that out she just goes for it. I really did just enjoyed her character as she just made the story. The secondary characters are supportive but add to the story in a way that it just flows. There is no doubt that they will take you on a journey of emotions and mystery that you won't be able to put down. I highly recommend this book. I know you will want to see what happens when secrets are determined to come out and how lives are effected.
Truth - this is a dark menacing story of love that warps under pressure of violence and regret. Growing up next door to the Carter brothers Gemma falls madly, deeply in love with the kinder gentler soul whilst the edgier dark brother switches between making her feel safe to making her feel like prey. As the Carter’s lives slowly disintegrate in a whirl wind of domestic abuse and manipulation Gemma feels a chasm grow between them and her heart breaks as each in turn the brothers break her trust. Ten years later Gemma is thrown back into the past as she finds herself caught up in a cold investigation. With detectives on her doorstep they bring with them the shadow of the past and her life begins to snowball...
Not everything is as it appears to be and Gemma battles to end the game of cat mouse once and for all, deciding to claim the man that has always had her heart. The past is slowly revealed with the horrors exposed of all that went on in the house next door. Survivors of such a brutal childhood the brothers have taken opposite paths, yet neither one can forget the girl next door. Obsession drives one to do unimaginable things as his truth is truly twisted by his perception of events.
Monsters wasn’t quite as dark as some of this author’s previous work and admittedly I rated this story as four stars as I wanted more from Mason. The reasoning from the detective at the end made me feel a little deflated as Mason had such inner depths being the protective yet manipulative brother and I’m not sure I liked him being branded type of man as the same as the villain in the story. But each to their own I guess and I just always root for the bad guy a little bit! The story was edgy and twisty, sad and filled with angst. The flashbacks are an excellent literary device to reveal the past events slowly whilst moving the plot along. I enjoyed the plot and the writing style. The themes were powerful and were handled with grace portraying the sad lengths they were forced to go to to find escape. It was a fab read that I would recommend.
… I am not even sure what to write for this review, I have been literally blown away at how well this book is written, how flawlessly it folds together to tell us this creepy suspenseful story.
I read Monsters in one sitting, once I cracked this baby open there was no way I could put it down, with out knowing what was going to happen next, I was at the edge of my seat most of the time, clearly don’t read this without locking your doors at night. Monsters felt like one of them scary movie you would watch with your hands over your face but cracked open enough to see what was going to happen.
I am not a fan when a story is told in the past, but with this one I wasn’t phased at all, the “Then” and “Now” was needed to tell this story of Gemma and the Carter brothers Lucas and Mason!
The plot of this was seriously freaking awesome, like it was told so well that at one stage I was rooting for the evil villain, I just can’t praise this novel enough. The pace was so good, it read so quickly before I new what was happening it was almost over. I just love a creepy romantic story!
I say romance, very loosely. Its hard for me to explain with out giving it all away, and I don’t want to do that. Gemma is a great female character, I felt for her, I loved that she wasn’t a push over, like some heroines can be…
I think what worked for me, was that I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into, like when I saw the cover reveal ages ago, I was like taken in aww because I mean look at the cover, its so unique and so different from everyone else’s cover to date, it so good to not see a naked anything on this, but in saying that at the time I most likely just glazed over the blurb and knew roughly by Melissa that this was going to be a thriller/suspense that was all I needed to know.
No ARC was given here, I purchased my own copy and reviewed it in my own time!

A new to me author and a genre that I am happily returning to, Melissa Jane's Monsters is a thriller about a woman who finds that leaving her agonizing past behind isn't a choice that past is willing to let her do.
Starting with the short but gripping prologue, Monsters tells the story of Gemma, a young woman living in New York and working at an art gallery. Gemma's life is uncomplicated except for her handsy boss and a far cry from her teens spent in Little Valley. Told via the present and the past, as the story unfolded I found myself liking Gemma more and more. Written as a strong, independent woman who knows when she can handle things and when she can't. I was pleased to see a female character that didn't blindly rush into danger and put herself at risk because of misplaced loyalty. Gemma's tormentor, Mason Carter, goes from being slightly sympathetic to evilly sadistic. Starting as hostile teen and steadily becoming a dangerous man, Mason is the perfect boogeyman. Long lost love and Mason's younger brother, Lucas remains a question mark for most of the story. Swimming in the cesspool his home has become, Lucas is hindered by his age and his love for Gemma, to make his situation better.
The story is told almost entirely from Gemma's point of view as Mason turns her life into a landmine filled battleground. Gemma saw something that she shouldn't, Mason wants to ensure her silence, the police want her information and Gemma just wants to be left alone. The pacing, as each chapter brings more and more revelations, kept me turning pages late into the evening as I kept guessing as to what the ultimate truth would be. A good choice for anyone in the mood for a thriller.
Monsters is the first book I have read by Melissa Jane, but it wont be the last. This book was amazing and so Intense!! Seriously gave me anxiety the entire first half, but I couldnt put it down. It was so packed with suspense, I never knew what was coming next. The book bounced back and forth between the past and now, but it was done flawlessly, so I had no trouble following the 2 story lines. The transitions were clean, and in the perfect places to fill in the gaps to the current situation. This book tells the story of Gemma and her friendship with her childhood neighbors, Lucas and Mason Carter. Gemma and Lucas were best friends, maybe even soulmates. But Mason always seemed to be in the way, and soon grew an unhealthy obsession with Gemma, and was convinced she chose the wrong brother. Some dark and twisted things happened when they were kids, but it was nothing compared to what is going on in the now. I don't want to give too much away, but I highly recommend this book. It is a solid 5 star, and will keep you on the edge of your seat, while twisting up your emotions.
Monsters will captivate you from the very beginning sending you on a wild ride ride of emotions as it spins a twisted, dark web of murder, lies, family betrayal, supense and drama. When you see a cover up for a murder, you don't dare speak of it unless you want to become the next victim. A secret kept that haunts you every day. A secret that lies in your soul. Gemma and Lucas have always had a strong bond between them during their teenage years. Whereas Mason, Lucas's brother, would taunt and scare Gemma with his actions. Ten years later, Gemma is still holding onto her secret. Now things are about to change as she is being stalked by the one monster she fears the most. The police have found bones and are beginning to question Gemma about the Carter brothers of her past. Will she guard her secret kept or will Little Wren expose the truth? Monsters will keep you on the edge of your seat with so many twists and turns you didn't see coming. Melissa Janes has written a fabulous story that will suck you in. I would strongly recommend this book!!
This book was like watching a scary psychological thriller unfold, each word each scene just pulled me further into the story.
Gemma grew up with the Carter brothers the last time she saw them they had committed a crime. Years later she has her life together, a job she loves a handsome boyfriend she’s happy. The unthinkable happens when the police pay her a visit asking questions about Mason and Lucas.
Through flashbacks we see the friendship between Gemma and Lucas blossom with a volatile Mason on the outside. I was literally on the edge of my seat if it was a film I’d be watching behind my fingers.
Mason is .... volatile to say the least, he’s scary and manipulative I actually can’t think of one redeeming feature of his personality but I’m a sucker for the scary guys so of course I liked him. Lucas is the sweet guy next door and you just know that Gemma is the love of his life.
This was a delicious game of cat and mouse and I loved every scary word.
Monsters that feed on fragilities, and vulnerabilities. They can be anywhere within society, your neighbor, your teacher, your friend. They are cruel, and do horrific things that can traumatize others.
When innocence is overshadowed and corrupted by such evil it shapes people into what they do and who they become. Gemma, Lucas, and Mason’s story is a representation of the malice that is exhibited from malevolent beings and the residual effects that it creates.
This book was packed full of suspense but despairingly somber. The plot of this book is mesmerizing and intense, gripping and dramatic. The characters are strong and have a connection that brings the story together. An incredible read that I would recommend.
This book rocks the socks off of you. It couldn't have been more suspenseful even if there was back ground music. Gemma is strong, Lucas is beautiful, and Marcus is just messed up. All together they create a combustible read. Melissa Jane is a new author for me. This definitely won't be my last read for her. This book was too good.
This is my 1st book from this author and it won't be my last. I am in awe right now. This author delivered a very twisty, very suspenseful book. I'm so glad I gave this book a chance. I highly recommend this!
This is about 3 characters Mason Lucas and Gemma! Sit back watch how these characters unfold and enjoy the ride.
I’m kicking myself for waiting so long to read this book! What I loved most about this book is that the story line and characters are all very real, terrifyingly so. There are some unanswered questions that are bothering me, but forte most part this book is flawless!
The time hop narrative in this book works incredibly well. Within just a couple of chapters you feel close to the characters because you know their history. It adds another layer of feeling and gives you a deeper understanding of the all characters and their actions.
The story centres around an art museum employee who’s past comes back to haunt her and she realises that the past may never have stayed put where it belongs. This dark thriller really does a great job of lulling you into a false sense of security. Literally, there were time when I thought my heart would explode from the stress. I genuinely tried to read this book over a few days to savour it but I put it down for half an hour and I just couldn’t stop glancing at my kindle so I had to finish it, I just needed answers and you will too!
