Family Ties

"Where There's Smoke 2" gives readers another glimpse into the lives of Smoke and Anne. It's a few years later and we find their son, Isaiah, away at college and they've welcomed a new addition to the family - Iris. Things are good. But as is life, how quickly things can change. Smoke's ex, Diana, is bent on interrupting their happily ever after. Though things are better, or at least tolerable, with Anne and her mother, her insecurities and resentment are never far from the surface. And someone is making trouble for Isaiah. Where there's smoke, is there still fire?

I enjoyed "Where There's Smoke 2's" intimate portrayal of this family with all their idiosyncrasies, and most importantly the love they share. I like that Little featured real people in a real relationship with real problems. With skill, she enlists us to care about these characters. And, in the process, she delivers a very good book.

Little gives just enough information from book one to remind previous readers and bring new readers up to speed without making the error of retelling the story. The only thing I didn't care for was that she seemed to let the narration get away from her, at some point, with too many narrators (Erica, Dino, Alice and Iris).

"Where There's Smoke 2" is easily recommendable. Terra Little gives another solid presentation. I look forward to what she has in store for readers next.

Hilarious. Isaiah and Alec (Smoke) had me laughing throughout the book. This one was much better than the 1st one for me. I'll give 1 star just if someone can make me laugh through their book and I give 5 stars to any book that as soon as I finish I have the urge to read it again. That is how this book was for me.

In the book Anne and Smoke have been together for a few years and Isaiah is off at school. Smoke can't seem to let go of his past and Isaiah can't seem to out run his. Anne is still trying to figure out what to do with her life now and how much of herself she is willing to give to Smoke. And like Smoke and Isaiah her past closet has skeletons falling out of it too.

This book is about them, all of them including Anne's mom and sister cementing their relationships and trying to bring the family closer. There are some sex,(not to bad)fighting and murder in this book but it's mostly about the family dynamics.

I must say I missed these character in the first installment and I am pleased to say I wasn't disappointed although the drama wasn't at its highest as the first you defiantly will enjoy this read. So Ann, Smoke, and Isiah are back. Ann has started to live like the wife she would never though she would be and well Alec lets just say a man can be tempted by another. So when everything seems to be hitting them hard all at once they start to play mind games. Isaiah away at college is on cloud nine. A great school career a new love and his parents are together. That is until a blast from his past wants him to remember where he cam from. Ms Little delivered another turn pager for me and I was happy to get to see these characters rise all above the drama. But the ride there was crazy but juicy to read. Another great read from Terra Little.

CAPTIVATING,HILARIOUS and HIGHLY-SPICED.... WHERE THERE'S SMOKE 2: When the Smoke Clears will keep you turning the pages non-stop. This book was awesome. The author really knows how to grab you and not let you go, even after the story has ended....you are still wanting more..... Smoke and Anne cracked me up and you just have to LOVE little Iris. I hope this is not the last book. The author brings the characters back with the same spunk and spitfire as in Where There's Smoke. The explosive scenes come to life and the love Anne and Smoke have for their family is well expressed. Another great novel for urban fiction lovers but I recommend this novel for any and all book lovers.....

Ok. This was entertaining, but sadly it did contain all the classic elements of a ghetto urban tale. The characters weren't that believable. I kind of thought the story was all over the place. The ending was tre' ghetto. The whole scene when Hood got it was terrible. I read 250 pages just to get to this poorly described blip? She spent more time describing their kissing and sex than she did developing the story. Boo. I'm glad I didn't read the first book. This book was very entertaining but it was not of substance.

The characters were still pretty good, but not as vivid as they were in the first book. This book leaned too heavily on a convoluted, under-researched plot that went nowhere and was resolved off-screen by side characters (or just fizzled out without notice altogether). Sorry, but that's bad writing.

This book COULD HAVE been great. It COULD HAVE really resonated with a lot of people and maybe even helped some people see not only their relationships differently, but themselves as well.

Instead, it was just mildly entertaining.

Excellent sequel, picks up right where it left off. WTS2 left me hope with hope about relationships and family. Sometimes I felt Little was repetitive sometimes with how she described Breanne childhood with her mother, but then she turn it around by letting her mother explain why she behave the way she did. I found plenty of love , self discovery and redemption while reading this novel.

Definitely not as good as the first book! It hardly held my attention as much as the other one did. If you ask me, I really don't think the book needed a sequel in the first place because it had a great ending, and this sequel just kind of ruined it overall. There was a lot of drama, bickering and random events.. I really couldn't tell you what the point of this story was.

Love Anne and Smoke (Alec) relationship but I thought he was going to lose her when Diane lied and said that she was pregnant by Smoke she tried but she couldn't break their bond. I was hoping she got back at him with Mr.Mississippi(Ulysses). This family stick together know matter what just ask Hood. They finally got married and having twins but Iris Int having it.

This book was just as interesting as the first installment. I'd even be interested in reading a third installment - Anne & Smoke after the wedding. I'm wondering if Anne is really pregnant with Smoke's child or if she did have sex with Ulysses Palmer and the baby(ies) are his. But I guess I'll just take Terra Little's happy ending and run with it.

The plot is interesting and Little does a great job developing the voice of each character. I found the story of Alice and Silas so interesting. I liked that Little included a bit of African American history in this tale, even if she did stick to the easiest piece of history to delve into and explicate in a tale of mental abuse.

Smoke's character is great, as always - a strong provider, a man's man (my favorite kind of male figure). I found myself aggravated by the inclusion of Diana Daniels, but I guess it was necessary to get the story going.

One major quip: Little needs to work on her voice. When telling the story of Alice and Silas, it seemed like Alice was talking to the reader, but she was actually having lunch with Anne. This happened often throughout the story - it makes for bad writing. It was the one drawback but the character and plot development make up for such flaws.

I definitely recommend this novel.

As with the first part of this book, I loved it mainly because it doesn't get lost upon you, unlike some books that have more than one part to it you tend to forget somethings about what you've read especially if there was a lag in the release of a second or 3rd part. That is not the case with this book, it's as if I read part one an hour before reading part two. Miss Little will keep you turning pages and laughing, and that's always a plus in my opinion.

I really love this story - 1 & 2. I think it would make a wonderful movie! Love me some Smoke and Zay.

This is a great story of positive Black life with overcoming adversaries. Anne is a strong role model for any young girl. I have these books in my collection and I read them regularly.
