Max Lucado: The Applause of Heaven / When God Whispers your Name / In the Grip of Grace

Rate this book

Max Lucado’s writings touch the deepest hopes, needs, and yearnings of Jesus’ living disciples. His poignant words reveal the passion of God’s heart. His stories breathe new life into ancient truths.

In this omnibus volume, Max Lucado explores three wonderful aspects of Christ’s personality: his tenacious commitment, his devoted involvement, and his irrepressible delight in his beloved children.

The Applause of Heaven: Through parables and anecdotes drawn from real life, this book explores the teachings of the Beatitudes and the Sermon on the Mount as they appear in the Gospel of St. Matthew. God’s love for his children is the message of the Bible…and that is the message of this book.

When God Whispers Your Name: Isn’t it incredible to think that God has saved a name just for you? One you don’t even know? We’ve always assumed that the name we got is the name we will keep. Not so. Imagine what that implies. Apparently your future is so promising it warrants a new title. The road ahead is so bright a fresh name is needed. Your eternity is so special no common name will do.

In the Grip of Grace: The letter of St. Paul to the Romans serves as the foundation for this moving meditation on the gift of God’s grace. Grace teaches us to live in a way that is wise and right, free of selfishness and sin. It gives our lives direction and enriches all who receive it. All of life is a gift of God’s grace, and the call of grace is to live a gracious life.

These three classics of contemporary Christian thought offer soul-stirringinsights into some of Christ’s most provocative teachings in the New Testament. They will continue to inspire and enlighten you long after you have finished reading them.

What I learned from this book: When we judge others we judge ourselves. We're not smart enough to judge. We've never walked in the other person's shoes, never had their experience. Who are we to judge.

I also liked his example about the crickett. There was a crickett who lived in a house. The crickett could not see through the walls to the outside world. Consequently the house was the cricketts whole universe. When it got cold , the heat went on, when it got dark, the lights went on but the crickett would never understand that the person in the house is what made it all happen.

Max Lucado's 3-in-1 book was a splendid read for me, especially since the writing style is not in the form of a sermon, but to remind the reader of encouraging truths that may have been forgotten. I enjoyed reading the book because I felt personally touched by various chapters. Furthermore, the author's multiple anecdotes made the shared lessons "alive".

I would recommend the book to anyone who needs a reminder of God's grace because sometimes we forget the greatest gift of all.

An oldie from my bookshelf, but refreshing to read during this heavy time. Wish I had noticed earlier that there are chapter notes for further study!

This is a 3-in-1 book and by far my favourite book so far is "In the Grip of Grace". Lucado is insightful and thought provoking. I find it impossible when reading this kind of literature not to look at my own actions and the judgements which I make about others. If I really believe, as I say I do, that God exists and He is present in each and every one of us , then I have a long way to go before I am a good Christian. Reading books like this are a great reminder and guide for me on my journey.Thank God for preachers and writers like Max Lucado.

So, I'm writing this review even though I've not finished yet. However I trust the author, Max Lucado and through him I'm learning more about The Author.
The Applause of Heaven is based on the sermon on the mount. It has touched me, made me cry and talk to God very honestly. It's a wonderful book.

In the Grip of Grace is based on the book of Romans.

These three books I read straight through. I was what I needed when I needed it and Max is blessed by God. May God continue to bless him. That's all.
