Damian and Logan Dragovich aren’t ordinary twin brothers. Damian is a vampire, while Logan is a werewolf, and in 1601 Transylvania, such creatures weren’t immortal—aging was merely slowed. The brothers find that their father, King Lucian, has been abducted, so they embark on a journey to rescue their beloved patriarch. After they discover that it is the Jackal clan who is to blame, their eyes are opened to a deep secret Lucian has kept from the world—the Fire Opal, which opens the Sacred Spring. The mystical spring water grants immortality to anyone who drinks from it, and the Jackal clan members, who age normally, will use any means necessary to get to it.With the help of Valen, a wood nymph who protects a haunted forest, the twins seek the gem’s location to open the Sacred Spring. They need the magical water if they are to survive the battle against the ruthless Jackal clan.

This story is a journey, in a great many ways, and while a part of me was eager for the characters to get to the destination, as I began to sink into the story, and recognize that the journey was as important as the destination, I grew to enjoy the story more and more. The more I got to know Damian and Logan, the more I enjoyed being a part of Damian's struggle to find himself, and his place in his family -- which at the outset had seemed one of the more obvious things in the story.
Valen's connection with the world around her was wonderful, and offered another perspective from which to see the events, and these characters. I found myself envying her ability to trust her instincts, and couldn't wait to see where the story took these characters next... even as I felt I knew what the destination we were heading to was meant to be.

If you like paranormal mixed with intrigue you will love this book!
I really wish that I had loved this one, paranormal romance is my favorite genre and I am always on the lookout for a new series and/or author that will give me an amazing paranormal romance. Sadly for me, Birthright just wasn't what I hoped it would be. I couldn't get into it, and I tried I really did, but I don't know of I just don't mesh with this author's writing style or if t was a case of it's me not the book but this is one that I sadly will not be continuing forward on. The premise had potential but I think the execution was missing something.
The characters were truly inspirational and the storyline was compelling.
