This was a fun look at both the behind-the-scenes creation of The Wizard of Oz motion picture and its lasting legacy.
Chapters begin with a couple page of text, but the book is packed with photos of cast, set, documents, newspaper clippings, memorabilia, and film stills, to keep the eyes occupied and the reader entertained.
Modern readers may have the hardest time with the press and marketing pieces, which often lacked good editing, and sometimes promoted the innocent picture-play with promises of "girls."
The book reveals many cuts to the film (and one substantial almost-cut) in addition to the better-known "Jitterbug" number. It also tells of some of the trivial facts in the film and editing incongruities.
I read this in two days, but most readers could do it in one short sitting--unless, of course, the pictures take longer to appreciate. I suggest they should.
I bought this book a few years ago and just recently took the time to sit down and read it. I love love love The Wizard of Oz and this was a super fun and interesting look into the adaptation and making of the movie. It has snippets from Judy Garland and all the cast, lots of awesome pictures and trivia.
Loved this. This is one of my absolute favorite movies and this was a very interesting companion guide to the movie with lots of facts and stories into the making of it and about the author and all his books (there are so many Oz books, someday I will read them all!!) Anyways, a classic and my kids love this movie too. We watch it a couple times a year.
I got this book on Christmas Eve, and haven't had time to read the whole thing yet, but I LOVE it! It is fascinating learning about everything that went into making such a timeless movie!
