The war on magic is here, and Mistress of the House of Swords Sara Wilde has done everything she can to prepare. The Arcana Council has recalled its most powerful members to hold the line, and the Houses of Magic are frantically strengthening their defenses. Then the first volley a plague of demons freed to ravage the earth. Scrambling, Sara discovers that the war will be fought not on one front, but three—while new threats emerge at a breakneck pace.
All the magic in the world may not be enough to save it. From an ancient coven in Chicago to the sunbaked streets of Vegas to the frozen ice fields of Antarctica, Sara rallies her closest friends and fiercest enemies to protect the earth from the gods and monsters raining down from the dark side of the veil. To succeed, Sara must confront the truths she’s been avoiding her whole life, and take on forces that have kept the Connecteds powerless for far too long. But is she willing to make the ultimate sacrifice?
When it comes to Armageddon, where there’s smoke there’s always Wilde Fire.

I hate endings of series. I especially hate endings of series when I've LOOOOOOVED every book and every character (okay, I've always hated Dixie but that's beside the point). I read this book in trepidation - I just didn't want it to end. Having said that, this was one of the most satisfying endings to series that I've ever read. Yes, you want more, but hey! There IS more - and all wrapped up in gorgeous man packages.
I loved seeing Sara grow and learn and evolve over the series. I made no real secret of the fact that I wished that she and Brody got together at least once in the series, but I have greater hope for Brody and Sariah. Don't get me wrong, the Magician is great and all, but who really gets over their first crushes? I digress. I loved meeting Nikki and learning more about her - from her past life to her current one, she ROCKS!
This book gave us a delightfully woven ending that was satisfying, even as it brought to a close this iteration of the Immortal Vegas team. Frankly, if you've read along with the series, you MUST buy this - it's fabulous!!

*Thoughts*
Wilde Fire is the tenth installment in author Jenn Stark's Immortal Vegas series. Sara Wilde, Mistress of the House of Swords, purveyor of lost artifacts, and tarot card reader extraordinaire, has her hands filled in this story. The war on magic is in full swing, the Gods, including her own mother and Llyr are trying to break through the veil to earth, and Sara must finally accept that she can no longer stand back and be an observer.
Well this is the final installment of the “Immortal Vegas”series, & it was a hell of a ride. A highly recommended series btw. I’m looking forward to “The Wilde Justice” series.
In this tenth, final, book of the Immortal Vegas series, the outlook for humanity is dire.
Wilde Fire picks up a week after the end of Running Wilde. The gods, led by the dragon Llyr, press at every weakness in the Veil that barely holds them away from the human realm. The battle for human survival is not far off and Sara Wilde needs every tool she can muster to try to protect her people. But a routine conversation with a summoned demon triggers the very catastrophe she struggles to prevent. She must transform herself again and again to meet that threat.
Unfortunately, this volume will make little sense taken alone, for the entire series is intended to be read in order. Author Jenn Stark simplifies that task by offering a low-priced Kindle box set of the first three. In fact, the first book, Getting Wilde, is free on Kindle and is itself a spectacular introduction to the series - and, ultimately, the reason I'm writing this.
Watching Sara at the peak of her powers, you briefly miss that simple heroine of the early book, the orphan who uses wile and agility to scarf arcana for wealthy buyers. But through all her tales, Sara is fractured, broken, shared and reborn in so many ways until she finally understands where her destiny lies.
This final book moves very fast. We give a nod to every major character in the series as she races past, struggling to hold up the heavens while saving friends, enemies and herself. The final chapters are a fine apotheosis of the central character.
Minor characters are somewhat uneven. The Fool, for instance, who merged with himself in the prior volume is a bit less interesting in his fuller form. But Death is a character we'd like to see more of, as bizarre as that may sound.
Stark is a fine writer and this final book reflects that. The entire series will appeal to those willing to misbelieve and simply enjoy the spectacular scenes and adventures that flow from her pen. The sequence in Hell, for instance (Wicked And Wilde), is superb.
Jenn Stark nails it with the last book in the Immortal Vegas series. It was everything I wanted and then a whole lot more. Will be reading the 2 new series asap!!!
The veil is thinning and the gods are breaking free. Sara's powers combined with the council and the houses work together to stop the destruction. This final book in the series arc gives us cataclysmic action, old enemies, surprises, and a HEA for Sara and her magician. Her decision with the council, the changes to take place. Very good ending, with tempting glimpses for the next story arc. Kudos Ms. Stark. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Stark knows how to start a book with a bang (and a naked Brit). Wilde Fire brings us back into the chaos that is Sara's life and, where I'm half convinced, she functions best. With her mother, Llyr, and other vengeful gods trying to force their way from beyond the Veil, Sara's doing her best to stay even a half step ahead.
Along with (hopefully) the Council and the Houses of Magic, she needs to find a way to minimize the destruction that both the Connected and non-Connected humans will face.
The Plot Thickens
The pacing of Wilde Fire was fairly breakneck. Although there's a lot going on, I felt like it was easy to follow, especially after Running Wilde, which was a little bit too chaotic. Wilde Fire is stuffed with BIG decisions, and it both asks and answers so many of the questions that have been flying around since both the beginning of the series and the latest few novels.
Wilde Fire continues many of the conversations that Stark has already started about the nature of good, evil, and balance in the world, about whether the role of the powerful should be to observe or get down into the mud and fight alongside those "beneath" them.
What I most liked about this installment is that it's all about change. Change in the Council, change in the Houses of Magic, change in Sara. The best part is, most of this change seemed so natural. Stark has been playing the long game, and, while I wasn't surprised by some of these changes, I feel that's because I wasn't supposed to be. Even Sara, for as much as she can be the queen of DENIAL, comes to terms with what must be done.
Stark stays true to her characters, and the core of goodness that she's instilled in Sara is as strong as ever. Despite the fact that her world is changing, yet again, Sara looks to her values, to the self that she wants to be, and uses that to help her decide what she needs to do. As indecisive or prone-to-avoidance as she can sometimes be, she has a strong sense of self and honor.
Although this wraps up a long-running arc for Sara, Stark leaves plenty of little treats in Wilde Fire that could be explored in any future trips back to Vegas.
The Usual Crew Nikki and Brody- get their fair amount of page time, and there are squee-able, touching moments between the trio. They really rally around Sara, and their key roles in her own success and survival are undeniable. Now, more than ever, she needs them to keep her grounded, and to keep her human, in a manner of speaking, especially with what's coming her way.
We get to see some development with Sariah, and I liked that we were brought back to her. I think that she'll come to be very important to Sara, and not just a symbol of the life she used to have.
I do have to say, I was a little disappointed that The Magician, my favorite did not get as much page time as I would've liked, but I think that a lot of Wilde Fire had to be about Sara's emotional and mental journey, so I can live with the disappointment :P
That being said, the two are more connected than ever (no pun intended) after the events of Running Wilde and are set to grow closer, still. I really like how the relationship and trust has grown between them. As a female of power, Sara needs someone that has their own share of power and darkness to balance her out. There's a lovely scene where they get to just be Sara and Armeus, and I loved the delicate intimacy there.
All in all, I very much enjoyed Wilde Fire, and I think there were just a lot of moments of beautiful writing. As it seems to come when the stakes are sky high, there are many moments for proclamations and rousing speeches, and Stark does them well- inspiring, well-written moments of honesty that show the depth and complexities of her characters.
While I'm sad to see this arc end, I'm ready for what comes next.
The war on magic that has been looming on the horizon is finally here. Sara learns that the gods trying to pierce the veil is only one wave of the battle to come. To survive, the heads of the four Houses, the Connecteds, and the Council will all have to work together. But what if all the preparation still isn’t enough? Sara will have to reconcile everything she learned from the past with what needs to be done to ensure a future.
With Wilde Fire Jenn Stark ties Sara Wilde’s journey into a successful conclusion of this story arc. As with most endings, there’s a lot of importance placed on what came before, but each of these instances further feeds into the decision Sara needs to make about her future, what path she needs to follow next.
It’s almost difficult to review Wilde Fire because while it’s definitely an ending it’s not the end. Instead, it’s a book that leads readers into the Sara’s next journey. By the start of Wilde Fire Sara has embraced and grown exponentially in her powers. She wields them like a pro. She also acts as the head of the House of Swords with confidence. And she still fights the good fight as a champion for the Connecteds and she does so with an open heart. Sara has built up these qualities within herself throughout these ten books, and I loved finally seeing all the different aspects of Sara merge and fit together. I’m excited to see how this all translates for what’s to come.
The same can be said for the relationship between Sara and The Magician. I really loved seeing this relationship grow and, especially with the last two books, I loved the acknowledgement of their feelings. The books have been pretty much a series of chaos with Sara jumping from one conflict to the next, so I’ve come to appreciate any of the sparse moments of quiet and Wilde Fire has a really lovely moment between Sara and The Magician which makes me hope we’ll get more moments like this in future books. I want to see the mundane as much as I want to see the exciting.
The Immortal Vegas series has been fun and it’s definitely a favorite of mine. Ten books in and one story arc complete, it would make for an excellent binge read. If you’ve been wondering why I’ve been talking about Wilde Fire not actually being the end, it’s because it’s not. There will be more stories told in this magical world (yay!). How and if Sara will appear in them will have to remain a mystery for now. Suffice it to say: Things are about to get very interesting.
It amazes me when an author can carry a series, especially a ten book series from beginning to end and have each book be better than the last. I wonder if they had it all planned out or kind of flew by the seat of their pants to get from beginning to end. However Jenn Stark did it, she pulled it off in spectacular fashion. The war on magic is on them and the twists that each part of the war takes, are unexpected and truly amazing. This one will keep you guessing and saying, "Oh wow that's how this one is going to play out?" .Action, action, action as usual, always something blowing up or getting ambushed, plots within plots, each one totally different than anything we've seen before in the previous nine. Sara is still evolving and making everyone around her better. I forced myself to read this one slowly, to savor each and every chapter because I don't want Sara's story to end. She has become a close friend who I look forward to going along with her on her adventures. I don't want to tell you any part of the story, but this is a must not miss book. PLease if you haven't read the previous nine, go pick them up and immerse yourself Sara's world. Get to know her, cheer her on and ultimately love her. I can not wait for Jenn's next new series to start.
Wow, wow, wow! Here we see the final book in this series (but hopefully not of Sara Wilde). I couldn’t put this book down and if you’ve been reading the series you know that this is where the big battle commences with fighting between connected’s and non connected’s, the Houses and the Council. We see Sara returning, trying to fight the Gods wanting to break through the veil and reign over earth. With the help of her merry band of fighters: Nikki, Nigel, Brody and the ever enigmatic Magician we have a book full of action, suspense and wit. This book was a page turner and we see the development of characters such as Sariah as well as Sara and the Magicians relationship develop whilst the Magician copes with his darker side. One of my favourites: the Devil makes appearances and I would love if he had his own story. Things have been tied up nicely to end this series but also a lot of things have been left hanging so that a development of another series can commence (and I hope it does). I don’t want to give too much away so go and read this book. The information about tarot cards is always fascinating and if you haven’t read Jenn Stark yet, you’re missing out on an absolutely brilliant author!
Wilde Fire, book 10 in the Immortal Vegas book is a winner. This is the latest installment in the series showcasing Sara Wilde, the toughest of the Connected and her motley crew of co-horts. If you have loved any of the Immortal Vegas series thus far, you will love this book.
The story is full of action and reveals. The action never stops as Sara goes from one problem to the next in an effort to save humanity from the return of the Gods who have been imprisoned behind the veil which is now failing quickly. She must work fast and be smart in order to make this happen. I adore her kick ass attitude and her quirky sense of humor. As well, the story wouldn't be complete without Nikki and her ever eye popping wardrobe choices and Brody, with his steady sense of doing the right thing. Mix in some romance with the Magician, a lot of reveals, magic and some unexpected twists and turns.
I can't say enough good about this book, so grab it! This book is 10 in the series, and while I fully recommend you start with book 1 to get the most out of the journey, you could pick up this book and understand enough to read as a stand alone. But don't do that to yourself, go enjoy the other 9!
Two and a half stars, maybe actually three. I can't decide.
This one had some weird-ass pacing. It's a culmination of the entire series' warnings that a "war on magic" was building, would build, would crest--and it did, but the actual battle scene(s?) held little to no emotional impact. It happened in, like twenty pages. Of a 10-book series. It wasn't quite like Stark was writing something that bored her, because technically speaking, the writing was pretty good. But the emotional arc of the story, the part that pulls the reader (and the MC) along, had very little to do with the actual, physical fight against the gods. It didn't have the impact it should have.
That said, the parts that did follow the emotional arc were pretty great. Sara's speech to the council at the end was excellent, and I loved the twist with Judgement. I know next to nothing about tarot, so I didn't see it coming at all, but it was perfect.
I am such a huge fan of this series. I just have loved it from the first book and even went on a binge getting caught up when I first discovered it.
It is such a unique reading experience. I read a lot and have not seen anything quite like this storyline or these characters. It is very original.
Sara has changed so much and you really see how far she has grown in this book. She has become a true leader regardless of the costs. She faces the ultimate challenge in this book and the ending delivers just what I wanted. You can expect lots of action, plenty of surprises and an intense relationship between her and The Magician.
While this part of the story is finished with this book, the story will continue in another direction. I am looking forward to reading those new stories. It feels it is a new beginning approaching.
YAAAAAS what a way to end the series (well this one anyway....)
As ever Sara is running full tilt at EVERYthing that is happening and literally everything happens. Her sister, that war we keep hearing about. some surprise appearance, Sara leveling up #glowup. The ending was actually pretty predictable if I'm honest as it's been foreshadowed in a quite a few previous books but I liked the way it was done - as ever it's the journey of how she gets there that's more important than the thing itself. There are some nice nods to popular culture (Harry Potter, The Walking Dead and a rather good Ender's Game reference which I enjoyed).
I like Sara's character and I'm excited to see what else Stark throws in her path in the next installment!
This series just KEEPS getting better and better!!
Omg. Have you ever wanted to CLAP at the ending of a book, or had that SURGE at the end of a book, just like you do when you’ve just finished watching a great superhero movie? Me either, until now. When I said in my last review that “there was just enough imagination mixed with reality to make this series so interesting”, or some crap, I don’t know what I was thinking. This series has a huge amount of imagination mixed with reality, and it works, as do all of the best “paranormal series with kick-ass female heroines”. No, really, I wanted to clap or something (maybe go work out?), I was so pumped at the end of this book - and I have read most of the authors who write in this genre. Seriously, RUN TO READ THIS SERIES!
ok, Wow! This series is fantastic! If you like a little of Dan Brown mixed with Alex Archer's Rogue Angel series this is the perfect combo. If you like a lot of tarot cards mixed in with present day Sin City then this is where it's at! Further along in the books if you like gaming and technology then this series is where you can level up! And as of this last book I got everything I wanted, almost. At the 80% mark for a couple of paragraphs, I read over and over again. I really hope these turns of phrase play out as what I am putting into them in the next arc of Sara Wilde. This was a truly well written contemporary fantasy that is so worth every dime and sleepless hour endured.
From start to finish I've loved this world and Sarah. Jenn Stark wrote a completly unique story with a fun twist on psychics, their abilities, and a strong heroine who grows in character with each book. I'm super amped up for the start of Sarah's new series, and can't wait to see where her stroy goes from here. As for everyone who hasn't read this series yet, you're missing out on a Wilde ride!
While I liked the concept it was a little too chaotic for my taste to much politics, too much going on, very little emotional story, while I don't need the romance to be the main story line I wished it would have been a more relevant part of it. There was so many likable characters so many stories to learn they kind of got lost in the chaos while Sara was jumping from one action movie scene to another. All in all not bad maybe it just wasn't for me...
Excellent conclusion to the series! Lots of action in the fight amongst mortals immortals and God's, connected and non connected. I particularly love the fact that's Sarah's significant other wants her to be strong in her own right and independent and at least a strong of him as without him. I adore the ending although it was bitter sweet. I'm so glad that Wild Justice is already out so I knew I had it to look forward to… thank you so much!
Well after all the build up of the veil splitting and the gods attempting to reenter earth and all that jazz, I was a little disappointed by how quickly and easily that bit was overcome. I expected more chaos and screaming. Never the less, I have enjoyed this series and having spent a week in Vegas myself recently I enjoyed the descriptions of the Strip and it's hotels.
I look forward to reading the next series by the author.
This one seemed very wordy and not a lot of action as the earlier books. Sara is advancing in her powers with the help of the Magician and even shared her powers with Sariah. The future is changing rapidly and Sara finally realized she had to change with it. Exciting, engrossing story.
Oh goodness, Wilde fire indeed! Jenn Stark is a fantastic story teller. The pace moved quickly in this story, the ongoing growth and development of Sara is so exciting and to see her connection with the Magician, well wow. The ending of this book will keep your mind spinning for what is to come next. 💕💕
This series captured my attention from the beginning with its highly unique world building in relation to many other urban fantasy books - very impressive for an author's debut - and I haven't lost interest since. Sara's evolution was a joy to experience and I'm so so happy that there is going to be a follow up series. I can't wait to see where things go from here after the events of this book!
4.5 Stars… All the pieces fall into place as this series comes to it’s conclusion… Sara finally finds her purpose and place in magic; continuing to lead the charge for the Connecteds… I look forward to reading the spin-off and watching these characters continue to navigate this unique and fascinating world:)
I've read the whole series and it did not disappoint. The characters were well developed and the storyline was unique and engaging. I'll admit to tears during the more tender parts where friendship and love were shown...
So AWESOME!!!!! This series could NOT have wrapped up better. The entire book was a action packed, including Nikki sass and fabulous fastionesta, and during whole ride Sara remaining our true kick ass heroine.
Great finish to a great series! Masterfully handled growth of characters. Looking forward to the next story arc. Definitely a great series to start at the beginning and binge read.
