The daughter of a town marshal, Linda Lael Miller is a #1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of more than 100 historical and contemporary novels, most of which reflect her love of the West. Raised in Northport, Washington, Linda pursued her wanderlust, living in London and Arizona and traveling the world before returning to the state of her birth to settle down on a spacious property outside Spokane. Linda traces the birth of her writing career to the day when a Northport teacher told her that the stories she was writing were good, that she just might have a future in writing. Later, when she decided to write novels, she endured her share of rejection before she sold Fletcher’s Woman in 1983 to Pocket Books. Since then, Linda has successfully published historicals, contemporaries, paranormals, mysteries and thrillers before coming home, in a literal sense, and concentrating on novels with a Western flavor. For her devotion to her craft, the Romance Writers of America awarded her their prestigious Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. Long a passionate Civil War buff, Linda has studied the era avidly for almost thirty years. She has read literally hundreds of books on the subject, explored numerous battlegrounds and made many visits to her favorite, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where she has witnessed re-enactments of the legendary clash between North and South. Linda explores that turbulent time in The Yankee Widow, a May 7, 2019 MIRA Books hardcover, also available in digital and audiobook formats. Dedicated to helping others, “The First Lady of the West” personally financed fifteen years of her Linda Lael Miller Scholarships for Women, which she awarded to women 25 years and older who were seeking to improve their lot in life through education. She anticipates that her next charitable endeavors will benefit four-legged critters. Part of the springwater spiral. I liked the characters of Savanah and Pres, this was a fun continuation, although again a bit brief for my taste. This being said I'm trying to consider these little books as chapters of a whole and even though the relationships seem to evolve at lightning speed, the characters are fairly believable.
Savannah is half owner of the saloon. She comes to town and feels an outcast because she sings in the saloon and helps run it. On the stage into town Miranda’s, 9 months pregnant is picked up by the stage wandering in the wilderness and gives birth. The ravaged man sitting next to her is a doctor, troubled from the civil war, and steps up to deliver the baby and is soon enticed by the town to build a practice and settle there. Sparks fly between them and she longs for a husband and family- could they be possible?
The first in this series was an amazing read. The sequels were also good but the plot feels rushed perhaps to minimize the length of the book. Still I read the entire series and will continue to grab any Linda Lael Miller historical work of fiction that I find. I prefer audible version though and this limits the available selections.
Like all other books I've read in this series, so far, this one was good. I just felt it should have gone on a little further with Savannah and the doctor, told a little more, before ending. That is my only disappointment in the book.
I just finished reading this book, funny enough the cover was ripped off so i gave it a chance. I LOVED it. It was so funny and so entertaining. I have never read this style of story telling, since I don’t reach much, but i am glad i gave it a chance. Maybe romantic stories can be fun
