The daughter of a town marshal, Linda Lael Miller is a #1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of more than 100 historical and contemporary novels, most of which reflect her love of the West. Raised in Northport, Washington, Linda pursued her wanderlust, living in London and Arizona and traveling the world before returning to the state of her birth to settle down on a spacious property outside Spokane. Linda traces the birth of her writing career to the day when a Northport teacher told her that the stories she was writing were good, that she just might have a future in writing. Later, when she decided to write novels, she endured her share of rejection before she sold Fletcher’s Woman in 1983 to Pocket Books. Since then, Linda has successfully published historicals, contemporaries, paranormals, mysteries and thrillers before coming home, in a literal sense, and concentrating on novels with a Western flavor. For her devotion to her craft, the Romance Writers of America awarded her their prestigious Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. Long a passionate Civil War buff, Linda has studied the era avidly for almost thirty years. She has read literally hundreds of books on the subject, explored numerous battlegrounds and made many visits to her favorite, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where she has witnessed re-enactments of the legendary clash between North and South. Linda explores that turbulent time in The Yankee Widow, a May 7, 2019 MIRA Books hardcover, also available in digital and audiobook formats. Dedicated to helping others, “The First Lady of the West” personally financed fifteen years of her Linda Lael Miller Scholarships for Women, which she awarded to women 25 years and older who were seeking to improve their lot in life through education. She anticipates that her next charitable endeavors will benefit four-legged critters. This is a book that I remember reading when I was a teenager. It's an old Silhouette Desire book that has been reissued under the same title. I remember liking the book when I read it way back when, and I enjoyed it again.
Kristen and Zach have a past and used to be lovers. They parted under tragic circumstances, and yet, they are still very much drawn to one another.
Zach is sent into a foreign country that is on the edge of complete collapse. Kristen is being held in the palace by her fiancee, the prince of Cabriz. She is in danger and Zach uses his military background, expertise of Cabriz's terrain, and his love for Kristen to will his way into the country and a cross country voyage to get Kristen OUT of the country.
I love a great road romance, and this book sees this couple in the jungles of Cabriz avoiding capture and falling in love all over again.
This is a romance with sprinkles of suspense, action, and Zach's dry wit that is so funny.
I read this book dispite the bad reviews. I actually enjoyed the book, however, I can live without having the princess and prince titles. It would be still an enjoyable novel without calling anybody prince or princess in a place that doesnt exist. There were times I wanted to believe that this was a historical novel but it is not. It is in present times. I can see why some readers might be disappointed in this book. It is not your typical Linda Lael Miller novel. It is not historical and it is not country. So, if you are looking for that combination you will not find it in this book.
I enjoyed this book. It wasn't your typical romance novel. There was suspense, and adventure as well as a love story all wrapped up in one. I think I would have enjoyed it more though if the main character, Kristin, didn't drive me crazy. She annoyed me through most of the book. However, I did like Zachary and overall they were good together. It was a short book with lots of things happening fast. If you're ready for a roller costar ride, then this is the book for you.
Stubborn, loss of a child, lack of communication were some of the reasons they broke up. A childhood friend who happened to be a Prince, was there to pick up the pieces. Zach offered to rescue Kris even if she didn't know she needed rescuing. What a story! What started as a romance novel quickly became a thriller
I got a bit of a soft spot for the older contemporary romances.
I don't think this book will be for everyone but I did enjoy it. I wish we got a bit more of a background as how these two got together in the first place. I thought the story moved pretty quickly and kept me entertained. I liked that the heroine was tough but still emotional. Though their breakup was because of a misunderstanding, I did like how the drama played out.
Was this a bit dramatic, yes. Was the bad guy a bit over the top, yes. Did I still love this??? Yes.
Heroine was a vapid twit. I could understand if she was 19 or 20 but 27?! Did not like her at the beginning and never did change my opinion. Hero was a bit superficially drawn. Never got to know him. Just another virile, silent, emotionally constipated guy.
This is one of the first romances that I read when I was a teen, so it will always have a special place in my heart. The characters are like old friends. While the writing leaves a lot to be wanting, Zachary and Kristen’s second chance romance was heart wrenching.
It took me a while to read as it was just hard to fall into. You hate the leading man (at least I did) and the leading lady you want to kind of smack. But for a quick romance novel it’s not the worse. Just for me, not something I’d want to repeat.
I don't I've read a book by Linda Lael Miller that I didn't love. There were a few points in this book that didn't seem realistic, but they didn't distract from the story.
I am a fan of Linda Lael Miller but this book fell short. The hero is one dimensional and lacks personality or emotion and the heroine though has personality but not much.
Kristin Meyers grew up with Prince Jascha in Cabriz and was always smitten with him. She ends up moving back to America to attend college and meets up with Zachary Harmon. She falls for Zachary and their affair ends in heartbreak for Kristin. Prince Jascha happens to show up and seduces her until she agrees to marry him. The Prince and Kristin return to Cabriz. Her fairy tale is about to come true. Or is it?
Near her wedding to the Prince two events happen 1)there is about to be a civil war in Cabriz and 2) her future husband has a dark side and has lied to her and considers a puta (whore). Then Zachary shows up - what will happen next?
This is a typical love story. A lot of explicit sex but without it the story would have been very short. I've read better love stories, but it was a fast read and had a happy ending. So 2 out of 3 wasn't too bad.
Never thought L.L. Miller would write a book with a heroine so unlikeable. What a biotch. Fortunately is attached to a great book, "The Outlaw's Christmas".
I did not like this as much as I thought I would. Kristin was a spoiled rich girl for a big part of the book. A little disappointment in her father. A better ending helped.
