Making the Most of the Rest of Your Life

Rate this book
The Bible teaches that all people will die, and all will survive the grave and live either with Christ or without him in eternity. 76-year-old evangelist John Chapman explores how we can know if this is true, and, if so, how to prepare for that eternity. This is a warm-hearted, good-humoured and challenging evangelistic book for 'seniors'. It explains how we can know about life after death, what the new creation will be like, and whether we can be sure of being part of it. (Large print!)

John Chapman writes: "I am 76 years old. You may think it strange that I am writing about making the most of the rest of our lives. Humanly speaking, I don't have all that much left. The average male lives for 79 years. That doesn't leave me much time. On the other hand, if there is life after death, if eternity is really eternity and I have the greater bulk of my life to look forward to, then that makes all the difference. If there is life after death, is it possible to make the most of it? Is it possible to prepare for that life, or is it totally a matter of chance? These are the questions I want to address in this short book.

Not quite what I was expecting.

I found this book in my father's bookcase, after he died, and assumed that he had bought it after being widowed.

However, the author is a clergyman (as was my father, so I should perhaps have guessed) and this turned out to be more of a study of eternity, as promised to those of us who follow Christ.

I am a Christian myself and felt that this was very much written for those who didn't know the Bible or understand the concept and, whilst a worthy tome, didn't bring anything new or revealing to the table for me.

John Chapman was single minded and focussed with his life and his writing. You could have asked him to write a book about how to make the best cup of coffee and it would end up being a book explaining the gospel.
This is no exception it is the gospel and reminding people of the eternal hope they have with it. It is a short book but it says everything that Chapman had always said.

Read hoping it would be a book to give non Christian friends. But found it to have long quotes from the Bible that I think many non Christians would not understand. A short book. The parts written by John were clear as you would expect.

An easy to read, short book explaining Christ and a New Heaven, New Earth. The requirements to enter, and how to go about getting there.

John Chapman wrote this at 76 years of age, with the bulk of his life ahead of him. Yes, he's writing about life beyond the grave - because he wants us all to be prepared for this.

The writing is straightforward and clear. The content looks ahead to the new creation. The overall aim is to show that Jesus did everything to enable people to enter the new creation, and call readers to do what's required to accept Jesus' work.

It's a short and clear explanation of the gospel which I'd be happy to give to anyone - whether they're past 76 or not.
