Carlin

Rate this book
An old, scruffy, ginger cat, has been homeless all his life and his only shelter from the rain and cold are the nearby bushes. For food, he scavenges through the rubbish bins, eating whatever he can find. It’s a hard life for this unloved cat, unlike the other cats in the neighbourhood with their posh collars and fluffy coats, having never gone hungry in their lives. They have homes to go to with humans to care for them. But not this poor cat. The humans find him to be nothing more than a nuisance and he is often chased out of their gardens and bullied by children who find it fun throwing stones at him. He does not even have a name.. One day, the cat becomes very ill and it is Moira, a little girl with compassion for animals, who rescues him. Moira and her parents take the ill cat to the vet. The biggest surprise of his life happens, when he wakes up in Moira’s room and finds himself stretched out on her bed. He soon discovers he now has a home and a family to call his very own. And he even has a name – “Carlin,” what’s more, he discovers he can purr! Carlin is based on a true rescue story and is the second book in this series, written by Bivi Ariel. It is another heart-warming story that shows us animals can feel pain, sadness, happiness and love.

Another great book written by the talented Bivi Ariel and illustrated by Nicola Spencer who makes the story come alive with her wonderful drawings.

Bivi Ariel did it again: she made me shed some tears while reading this but also made me smile. It is incredible how a children's book can have that effect. I will not spoil anything, but this book definitely will touch your heart, as it touched mine. I definitely recommend this book, also to teach your children an important lesson: it teaches you how helping a cat and animals in general will make your life better and of course also their lives.

And also good to know: if you buy this book, you will help a great charity 'Kittens in Distress' in Spain who dedicates their time and effort in helping cats and occasionally dogs.

This is such a loving book, made me feel very inspired.
The book tells the story of a homeless ginger cat. Shows how difficult it is to live in the street, brings awareness to all the problems and dangers a homeless cat has to deal with.
This ginger cat lives a difficult life, and only in his old days, he is lucky enough to find a home.
I love how the story is written. One can feel a lot of passion and empathy in the words of this book. One can see that the author has a close understanding of this subject and has a huge love for animals.
The story is emotional but it is also entertaining, with a very good and clear narrative. The characters and environment have depth and beauty to them.
The illustrations are bright and colorful and do a good job portraying the characters and their feelings.
This book has opened my eyes and heart a bit more to the problems homeless animals face and to the importance of helping them. There is always the possibility to make life better by helping one of these animals, even if they are older like Carlin.
I strongly recommend this book.
