I have it all—money, fame, women. But one viral video is about to change everything. Baseball is my life. My fans love my temper on the field, but when a video of me shoving a cop hits the internet, I’m labeled as just another out of control athlete. It doesn't matter that the officer was a sleaze with wandering hands. My career is on the line. My publicist thinks a fairytale romance might salvage my image. And he’s found the perfect woman—a sweet brunette who runs a shelter for families in need. She's willing to pose as my girlfriend for a sizable donation to her charity. I may be fighting for my job, but after one kiss, I realize she’s the real prize.
I like the fast pace at the beginning. It was not dragging but I as I continued reading I started to enjoy the book less. The writing is definitely not for me/ my style and this book could have gone through another round of editing. Also, at one point Emily asked Cooper if he wanted sushi for breakfast but she didn't even make sushi! Just because it's a Japanese dish, doesn't mean it's sushi. Anyway, I did not believe in their chemistry. I also didn't really like Emily, she was a bit annoying and Cooper's personality seemed forced and inauthentic at times. I couldn't "connect" with the characters and because of that I wasn't invested in the story and I even skim read a few pages towards the end. So, I absolutely will not continue with this series even though this book ended in a cliff hanger.
Playing the Game is a sexy and fun fake-to-real romance that moves quickly and is an easy read. Cooper needs to rehab his image and Emily needs money for her non-profit so they team up in a fake relationship to make everyone happy. What starts out as an acrimonious agreement turns into a hot and heavy romance. Cooper has anger issues though and at every turn, he's opening up his mouth and inserting his foot. At points I loved his character and then at others I wanted to slap him silly. The story ends on a cliffhanger and I can't wait to see what happens with these two characters!
What starts as a fake romance for press to improve Cooper’s image, quickly turns into something more. This unlikely duo is combustible in more ways than one. I am hopeful for their HEA in the conclusion to this duet!
Great read!!! I love to read sport romance books. I can't was it to read the second part of this book. I voluntarily read this book for my honest opinion.
Although the book is engaging, you need to purchase the second half to get a story. I hate this “marketing” technique as it feels like mis representation.
