An Omega in pain. An Alpha with the ability to heal. Staff Sergeant Rory Shipmond saves lives. It’s his job in Delta Squad. When Delta Squad rescues an American base from hostiles, he saves an omega who has been hurt more than Rory could ever imagine. Damien Raoult learned early he can’t trust alphas as a rich Omega. His tech business attracts all type of attention and Damien claims to be bonded to his business. Damien is visiting an American military base in Hong Kong, a base that the U.S.A. doesn’t admit exists, when it’s attacked by a gang in efforts to steal his weapon technology. When the medical officer asks Damien if he’s okay, Damien wants to open up more than he has before. But, he can’t risk the pain, even if his Omega instincts tell him Staff Sergeant Shipmond is his Alpha. Rory is determined to heal this Omega, not because it’s his duty, but because it’s his desire. He will win Damien’s trust and his heart, one way or another. This non-shifter Mpreg romance is fast paced and has no cliffhanger. It features an enemies-to-lovers story, steamy scenes, military action, pregnancy risk, sassy flirting, romantic interludes, and two sultry men on a mission for their happily-ever-after.
While this could have been an alright story, between the inconsistencies and the lack of connection for the characters it simply wasn't for me.
Rory is an alpha on Delta Squad, the medical officer. Out on a mission to save an omega taken hostage at a government site, Damien, the two realizes they are mates. From there starts their tumultuous relationship.
Right from the get go there were odd inconsistencies. When Rory finds Damien, he has been beaten so badly he might die from his injuries. Damien in fact falls into a coma once he reaches the hospital. Then four days later he wakes up, says he is fine, and actually walks from the hospital several blocks to a bar. Apparently four days is enough to heal from a near fatal beating. This made such a weird start for the book I found it hard to get into after that.
Damien and Rory are supposed to be fated mates, but I never really felt their connection all that well. Sure, they talk easily and they are physically attracted. But the chemistry between them doesn't really come through the page, leaving the story with a one dimensional feel.
There is a whole history with Damien which explains a lot about him but we barely get a glimpse of that. In fact, we knowledge less about Rory. Anything that could build a foundation for this story or make it something more was missing from this story. It left everything woefully incomplete in a series I gave no desire in looking any further into.
I liked this story, and both Rory and Damien were fun to read about. My one complaint with this book was that it wasn't paced well - it felt rushed in many places and I didn't feel that the character development was done smoothly. It felt like we didn't get enough background information to support the lessons learned by either Rory or Damien to make them believable.
I definitely thought that the other books in this series were done better, but this was a fun, quick read and good to see another member of Delta Squad find his match.
So...I made it to the end without skipping or DNF-ing (yes, I know it isn't an actual word, thank you very much). ...And yet I don't feel like I've just read a book, it's mind boggling really.
I feel like someone told me (in details) about the plot of this new book they wanted to write. Like a long list of things that would happen to the main characters. So many things happened and got resolved within one page. I didn't have time to "appreciate" what was going on, couldn't feel anything...which gave me an idea of how it would feel like to be a psychopath so, you know, thanks for the experience but it wasn't quite what I was looking for?
Anyway, good plot but having the actual story to read would be even better.
Saving His Omega was a fun quick read, the characters Damien and Rory were fun and sweet. The storyline started off with a bang and continued to be entertaining until the end.
