In the original story, Miyuki got pulled from the Rookie Mirage Bat Competition, so that she could focus on the senior event, and that last heard of it. This spin off adds more story to that plot thread and it is revealed that Honoka and a teammate stepped up to make it a 1-2 finish for their team.
That arc was just the opening act for one of Tatsuya's signature moments, as it is in the main story.
This volume is a well balanced collection that gives the reader a new mini arc that expands the story while retelling a major event from the original story in a way that doesn't feel lie a straight up rehash.

I was smiling while reading the rest of this volume after that. I should feel uncomfortable shipping them, but I feel no guilt admitting that I don't.

This was alright, it’s only volume one so it would probably get better but I don’t particularly care for the characters or anything
