This is a book that (as on the cover) 'inspiration, ideas and innovative works from 20 contemporary quilters'.
i occasionally really like contemporary quilters, but my contemporary quilts really don't turn out as nicely. And often, there are many quilts that i cannot stand.
This book had one lady that inspired me, Loretta Bennett. She is from Gee's Bend (a poor Alabama folk-art quilting community that recently became discovered in the late nineties).
Her Advice "I think women are so defined by rules, and everything has to be so just right and perfect. Don't worry about being so restricted by rules and straight lines and worried about how your stitches look. That stops a lot of people. I don't like my stitches to be too small."
She has made quilts out of jean pant legs, dresses, and cotton shirts. I Love those ideas. and, the quilts showcased in this book are not straight, not perfect.......Like mine. i think i hold myself back oftentimes because i do with that my quilts were 'perfect'. i love this advice.
so, if i had just read about this one lady, the book would have been a higher rating, but honesty has to prevail because there were many contemporary artists with work that was ick in my opinion.
