A storm is brewing hundreds of miles away, but its effects are devastating even from afar.
Laid-back and light: that's Cassidy Livingston's new motto. But when a makeshift boat with a bloody cloth inside washes ashore near her oceanfront home, her detective instincts shift into gear . . . again.
Seeking clues isn't the only thing on her mind-romance is heating up with next-door neighbor and former Navy SEAL Ty Chambers as well. Her heart wants the love and stability she's longed for her entire life. But her hidden identity only leads to a tidal wave of turbulence.
As more answers emerge about the boat, the danger around her rises, creating a treacherous swell that threatens to reveal her past. Can Cassidy mind her own business, or will the storm surge of violence and corruption that has washed ashore on Lantern Beach leave her life in wreckage?
Christy Barritt is an author, freelance writer and speaker who lives in Virginia. She’s married to her Prince Charming, a man who thinks she’s hilarious—but only when she’s not trying to be. Christy’s a self-proclaimed klutz, an avid music lover who’s known for spontaneously bursting into song, and a road trip aficionado. She’s only won one contest in her life—and her prize was kissing a pig (okay, okay… actually she did win the Daphne du Maurier Award for Excellence in Suspense and Mystery also). Her current claim to fame is showing off her mother, who looks just like former First Lady Barbara Bush When she’s not working or spending time with her family, she enjoys singing, playing the guitar, and exploring small, unsuspecting towns where people have no idea how accident prone she is.
I feel like at this point I’m simply going to give away the plot. Cassidy just can’t help investigating more, and she’s onto a makeshift raft that was discovered on the beach in this one. Of course nothing’s as it seems and there is a mystery to be found!
Make sure to read this series in order, since the mystery from Cassidy’s past isn’t resolved.
This was another nice addition to the Lantern Beach Mystery Series. I enjoyed the direction the relationship between Cady/Cassidy and Ty seems to be headed. This one showed even more how courageous and determined that Cassidy is.
In this one Cassidy finds debris that ends up being a lift raft. She worries about the people who were on it, but the police don't take her very seriously. She later finds those who were on the raft and determines to hide them and keep them safe.
Storm Surge is the third book in the Lantern Beach Mysteries and another great read. Something I like about this series is that it has a continuing storyline. I love getting to see the same characters each book. I was a little worried about Ty and what happened to him...Love how his dog helped save him. The ending was good and I am eager to continue the series.
Storm Surge by Christy Barritt is an awesome addition to her Lantern Beach series. With the return of Cassidy and Ty, the mystery jumps off the page with the addition of a raft coming on shore. Cassidy is on the hunt for the people in the boat, so of course, she has to jump and look for clues without giving away her true identity again. Ty is taken to the hospital in the first couple of chapters, throwing Cassidy for a while ride on a rollercoaster of emotions. The suspense flies as the mystery comes close to home, and Cassidy has to once again save the day. I read the story in a little over a couple of hours. A great way to spend the afternoon. I keep looking forward to everything Barritt writes. She knows the needs and wants of a good mystery. I highly recommend anything she has written. I enjoyed this quick read and can't wait for the next installment coming out in April 2018.
It's funny. Usually, I prefer standalone books that are loosely connected or maybe with a minor overarching issue. These are a little more dependent on one another than I'm used to, but I'm loving them.
These do indeed each have their own deeply involved mystery. And the one for this story was gripping from the beginning! I find, though, that I'm enjoying even more how the overarching issue is being chipped away a little at a time with each book.
The segue between the books is flawless, by the way!
Storm Surge is a very well-written inspirational suspense. Great plot, characters and setting. I have absolutely loved this series and recommend to fans of suspense.
Another winner in this series, CANNOT. PUT. DOWN! This one deals with human trafficking and as always, Cassidy brings her A game to solve this and bring justice to all involved. Not sure how much longer she'll be undercover with Ty's questioning looks and there's finally some sweet kisses in this one :) Still loving Elsa, the ice cream truck, although it's too bad Cassidy has very little chances to sell ice cream with everything else going on! Ty's ex-fiance makes an appearance in this one, really hated her but man, she is WELL WRITTEN. LOOOOVED the chapter to do lists AND how the one officer messes up Cassidy's name EVERY TIME. Seriously love this series and can't get enough of Cassidy, she is an amazing character that makes me laugh and I'm right there with her every book :)
“Her heart wants the love and stability she's longed for her entire life. But her hidden identity only leads to a tidal wave of turbulence.” This statement is so spot on. In this book, I can just feel Cassidy’s heart being torn between the two issues in her life. Does she tell all to Ty and risk being found, or not tell him, breaking his heart (and hers) when she leaves? I have found this book to be so full of suspense and action as well as sweet romance. From the very first page to the end it had me captivated, never wanting it to end. Christy Barritt has written another great book in this series! Her writing will keep you on the edge of your seat and not let up until you’ve finished the last page. I read this book in one day and didn’t want it to end. I was given this wonderful book to read and give an honest review. I highly recommend this if you’re looking for an entertaining book to read….but just be warned….you might not sleep until you’re done with it!
I love Cassidy Livingston. Her life in Lantern Beach has been exciting. To solve three crimes in about two months is astounding. It's time to let her island cohorts in on her secret, though. They're already her partners in solving crime, you know? Kujo, I'm sure, already knows.
Another thing I'd like to mention in this weird review is how much I also love Joey Darling. But you know who I really love and miss the most? Gabby St. Claire, that's who! Will readers get a visit from her in 2018 (and Holly Anna Paladin and Sierra Nakamura Davis too)?
Once again, here’s a book that raises awareness of human trafficking. It was well done without going into too much detail.
The romance between Ty and Cassidy is getting more intense. A few too many feelings and kisses for my taste. And I personally don’t like stories with ex-girlfriends/boyfriends and there was some of that in this one.
There also seemed to be a little less spiritual emphasis in this one, which was disappointing.
The mystery again was interestingly done. A few things happen too conveniently, but I still like it. I’m really liking how she’s spreading the DH-7 backstory and mystery through the entire series.
Another great installment in the Lantern Beach Mysteries, this one involving a human trafficing ring. It is getting harder for Cassidy to hide her identity as these mysteries 'fall' into her lap. And it doesn't help that her attraction to neighbor Ty is getting stronger. Looking forward to see how the series plays out and if she and Ty can get together.
Another great mystery from this author. I'm enjoying the developing romance between the hero and heroine in each book in the series, as well as the compelling mystery and witty banter between characters. Looking forward to what's next!
I really enjoyed the Lantern Beach Mysteries. Each book tackles its own mystery while an overarching one threads through all the installments. I definitely recommend reading them in order.
The writing style is quick and fun, but is weakened by shallow POV (point of view) and too much telling rather than showing.
I did figure out the ultimate bad guy in book 1, though his exact role and motives didn’t come to light until later. Cassidy is portrayed as brilliant and intuitive, so the fact she didn’t catch on sooner didn’t quite compute. At the end, she claims she had suspicions, which doesn’t ring true due to some of her actions/decisions. It made it feel like she was either covering up the fact she didn’t figure out the truth sooner or the author made her do those things to stretch the suspense a bit longer than it should have gone. I suspect it was the latter. Nonetheless, these stories are addicting, as attested by the fact I read all 6 books in 10 days. I loved the setting, and the characters truly feel like family. I cannot wait to return to Lantern Beach with the next series.
I recommend these books to readers who enjoy lighter, Hallmark-like mysteries.
Just when Cassidy and Ty were making progress… A boat with a bloody cloth washes up in Lantern Beach as does Ty’s ex-fiancée, leaving Cassidy on her own for this mystery. Which is a good thing, right? After all, she’s supposed to be laid back, focused only on selling her ice cream around the island. I love the concept of Barritt’s Lantern Beach series. And Cassidy’s desire for justice is part of her DNA—that’s part of what makes her so likable. As usual, there are plenty of questions and distractions for Cassidy. She’s slowly giving up the pretense of not knowing what she’s doing (around Ty, anyway). Corrupt law enforcement, missing people, questions about the raft (and questions about Ty and his relationship with his ex), and more make this another fast read from Barritt, one I didn’t want to put down. There are still plenty of questions to answer. I’m waiting for the time Cassidy has to reveal to Ty (and hopefully Mac) exactly who she is. If I had to guess, that should start to unravel in the next two or three books. And there is the question of what happened to her best friend. Watching (or reading) it all play out is sure to be a thoroughly enjoyable adventure.

"Her heart was never supposed to get involved in all this."
Detective Cady Matthews is trying to live an unassuming life as Cassidy Livingston on the small island of Lantern Beach, off the coast of North Carolina. Her strong sense of justice has already pulled her into aiding local law enforcement twice in the short weeks of her residency, but one of the more dangerous experiences has been the attachment that her heart has made with her handsome next door neighbor, . . . . .whose ex-fiance has just shown up in his hour of need. Seriously?
Determined to push romantic notions out of her head, Cassidy stumbles onto evidence of yet another dangerous illegal operation underway on Lantern Beach. Promising a safe haven for its victims puts Cassidy on the front lines, where the risk factor is high and the probability of her own happily ever after, very low.
Another great addition to the "Lantern Beach Mysteries".
STORM SURGE is the third book in Ms. Barritt's newest series Lantern Beach, and readers will want to read the books in order: Hidden Currents, Flood Watch and STORM SURGE.
As per usual with Ms. Barritt's cozy mysteries, the action is nonstop. I can't imagine the plotting and research she puts into her stories. Who knew one could make a raft from a tarp and a bedframe, what direction the currents travel in the Carolinas, how many hours (or days) it would take to travel so many miles by raft... and more. The Coast Guard is mentioned in this book, sounding like dofuses to the police in this story, but the actually Coastie appearance was not at all that way. (I love Coasties.)
I couldn't put STORM SURGE down and had to keep reading to find out what happened next. If you like cozy mysteries you will want to read the Lantern Beach series, titles listed above.
Another really good Christy Barritt book. I am really enjoying the Lantern Beach series. Cassidy and Ty are really good main characters and the mystery aspects are always top notch. While Storm Surge did start off slow for the first 30% or so, the rest of the book was nonstop action. I also felt this book wasn’t as mushy as the last one so I definitely appreciate that. Might take a slight detour and read a non-Barritt book but I will definitely be reading the next book I the series soon!
This book didn't interest me as much as the others in this series. I think the story didn't develop, as well as I would have liked and the ending was to trite. The new characters that were introduced, were not developed well. I never felt, like I really got to know them.
I loved the first 2 books of this series but for whatever reason, I just couldn't get into this one. I may go back and finish later but I was disappointed in the writing in this one.
In “Storm Surge”, the third volume of Christy Barritt’s Lantern Beach Mysteries series, heroine Cassidy Livingston is still hiding out, hoping to keep her identity secret until she can testify in an important trial. It’s not as easy as it seems because things keep happening in the quiet little island town and Cassidy just cannot keep herself from getting involved. She has also found herself more than attracted to her next door neighbor Ty Chambers and although she feels guilty about not revealing her secrets, she fears for his safety if she does. Brief glimpses of Cassidy’s history reveal just how dangerous the people looking for her can be.
“Storm Surge” is another fast-paced mystery with touches of Barritt’s trademark humor scattered throughout. An eclectic cast of characters interact with Cassidy and Ty which helps keep things quite interesting. I actually like the slow development of the relationship between Cassidy and Ty but also look forward to the day she can reveal everything to him. A mysterious boat washed onshore is another irresistible case for Cassidy and once again she finds herself in danger as she locates and attempts to help those who arrived on the boat.
Don’t let the romance and humor fool you for one minute. Barritt is a pro at writing nail-biting suspense and this series definitely has its hooks in me. I can’t wait to see what happens next!
I voluntarily reviewed a digital copy of this book provided by the author. A favorable review was not required. All views expressed are my own.
Cassidy has been on the island for about 3 months now and as soon as it appears things are going to quiet down a bit, a homemade raft washes up on shore. Cassidy can’t help herself from digging into the mystery, where did the raft come from? Every time she gets involved in a mystery she risks blowing her cover, but she just can’t help herself. I felt for the girls she was trying to help and was concerned for Cassidy’s life. The flashbacks to Cassidy’s undercover work gave us more insight into things she went through before coming to the island. Ty wasn’t involved in her investigation at the beginning (as he was dealing with a few other things), but as soon as he found out what Cassidy was doing he was there to help.
As much as the mystery had me guessing what was going to happen it was the relationship between Ty and Cassidy that captured my attention. When someone from Ty’s past shows up, Cassidy begins to realize the extent of her feelings. Cassidy struggles with deciding what she going to do about Ty and her feelings. Does she take the risk and share her secret with Ty, or not tell him knowing that she will hurt him when she has to leave. I understand her dilemma from her point of view, but I really want her to open up to Ty. I enjoyed their discussion near the end and was pleased with the way they decided to proceed for now. I hope the next book builds on this even more. I have a plan in my head of how I would things to end up and am hoping that Ms. Barritt goes in that direction, I’ll have to read the next book to find out.
Christy Barritt will keep you turning the pages. I received the first book in the series as a freebie. When I finished it I ordered the next one and before I knew it I bought all 6 books in the series and loved each one. I read all six books in less than 7 days. There is suspense, murder, gang related drug trafficking, humor- an ice cream that seems to have a mind of its own when it comes to playing music - even when its not turned on. You can read each book in the series as a stand alone but each one will not complete the whole story. Each one is better than the last and has a teaser at the end. There is human trafficking, romance, a lighthouse that plays a part in almost all the books. Some of the characters are just that - characters to love, laugh at, some that will make you wonder which side of the law they are really on. My kindle went everywhere with me while I was reading this series.
No one asked me to read, review or say anything about these books. All opinions are my own and all I can say is that I was sorry to see the series to come to an end. I normally don't like series that go more than 3-4 books. I highly recommend the Lantern Beach series. WARNING!! You might lose some sleep or let a few errands go. I did. Highly recommend this entertaining & wonderful author.
This was an exceptional book! So much excitement and suspense. A fantastic story. The story had me on the edge of my seat. There were moments that I was almost afraid to read more. The story was harrowing to say the least. The danger the heroine put herself into was over the top exciting. This is by far the best book in the series. I was literally on the edge of my seat while reading several parts in the book. For a clean Christian mystery, this book was exceptiontal feel blessed to have found these series of books. I abhor the language in most traditional mysteries. You are truly a gifted writer. You are able to write fantastic mystery books without any profanity or raw sexual scenes. Most mystery writers seem to think that they have to include that sort of trash to make the story more interesting. They really should read your books to find out that the story can be terrific without explicit sex and profanity. Bless you and your awesome talent in writing what I consider to be the best mysteries I have ever read.
Storm Surge is another great addition to the Lantern Beach Mystery series. I was catapulted into this story from the very beginning and had a hard time putting it down. It's extremely fast-paced. The suspense was so intense that there were times when I could hardly catch my breath.
Even though Cassidy is supposed to 'lay low', she just can't seem to fight her investigative instincts. She's 'supposed' to be laid back and carefree, but mysteries seem to find their way to her and she can't help but get involved. She can't help but try to aid those in need.
Ty was out of commission for much of this book, so he wasn't as involved with the action in the first half. Plus someone from his past shows up unexpectedly, making things a tad awkward. But there was some development with his and Cassidy's 'relationship'.
I highly recommend this series! Can't wait to see what's in store for these characters in the next installment!
Storm Surge was given to me by the author, but I would have bought it anyway. I love her mysteries. This is the third book in the Lantern Beach Mysteries series. It is a perfect read for this time of year! It begins on July 1 and ends on July 4. Even if she tries to stay out of the limelight, Cassidy Livingston keeps seeing evidence and can't help following clues. Her reason for hiding in Lantern Beach keeps her from getting close to anyone, even her hunky neighbor, Ty Chambers, an ex Navy Seal. Many people seem to be suspects. Who has the snake tattoo? Who was in the homemade boat? Why was there a blood soaked rag in it? Who tried to abduct her? I can't say much without giving you too much of the story. It is very fast paced. Emergencies happen! Mysterious people show up! It is fast-paced and very fun! Believe me, you will enjoy it!
One of Christy Barritt's best books. Cassidy Livingston's personality has gone through a complete overhaul in the weeks she's lived on Lantern Beach. Well, kind of.
A makeshift boat has washed ashore near her bungalow, and inside is a bloody cloth. Even at the risk of blowing her cover, Cassidy can't help herself: she has to chase down leads and solve the case.
Meanwhile, romance is sparking between Cassidy and her neighbor, Ty Chambers. It's fun watching these two falling for each other. But life throws a kink in their plans when Ty's past comes calling.
Who was in that boat? Why were they in that boat? And where did they go?
All answers are found in Storm Surge, so grab a copy now!
In the third installment of this 6-book series by Christy Barritt, through no fault of her own, Cassidy ends up with another big secret to keep from her ex-Navy SEAL neighbor, Ty, who is beginning to mean a whole lot to her. Danger lurks all around, but she doesn't feel like she can confide in Ty or any of her other new friends. Cassidy is beginning to think she might not want to go back to her old life after all, but her past may be catching up to her, right here on Lantern Beach. As she tries to help some women in need, her kindness puts her in greater danger, the secrets are driving a wedge between her and Ty, and it's not just the mob back home that is now out to kill her! I received an e-copy of this book from the author. The opinions are my own.
Enjoyed this book!!!! A storm is brewing hundreds of miles away but it effects are devastating even from afar. When a makeshift boat with a bloody cloth inside washes up near Cassidy Livingston's home her detective instincts shift into gear again. Seeking clues isn't the only thing on her mind romance is heating up with next door neighbor Ty Chambers. Her heart wants the love and stability shes longed for her entire life. But her hidden identity only leads to a tidal wave of turbulence. As more answers come to light about the boat the danger around her rises creates a swell to reveal her past. Can Cassidy mind her own business or will the storm surge of violence and corruption that has washed ashore leave her life in wreckage????
