There are five brothers. Each one of them have killer good looks. One is engaged to her best friend. That leaves four to flirt with, four hot men, so why does she only have eyes for the oldest grumpiest one in the bunch. Rachel Reardon has to question her own sanity when she’s enthralled with a man she can hardly stand to speak to. A first-class jerk and sexy as sin. Adam Kipling can’t believe his bad luck when his soon-to-be sister-in-law’s best friend arrives. She is smoking hot and too damn young for him. He has responsibilities as the oldest sibling and they do not include flirting with young women. There isn’t enough land on this Colorado ranch to keep them far enough apart. An explosion of some sort is inevitable.
I started writing late in life. I've always been a reader, devouring Nancy Drew books in grade school right on through to today. But writing is new to me and I am having a blast.
I have four series, all small town contemporary romance.
My Lake Chelan series is centered around a remote town in eastern Washington and all the challenges and shenanigans that go on there. Many of the characters in that series are volunteer firefighters. My father was a volunteer firefighter and walking into a station still smells like home to me. So I am having a lot of fun incorporating my memories into new stories.
My Burlap and Barbed Wire series at this point is Colorado Cowboys all from one family of cattle ranchers living in the Rocky Mountains at the base of Rocky Mountain National Park. Writing a family of siblings finding love has been a lot of fun.
My Saddles and Secrets series code named Wyoming Wranglers is focused on a rescue ranch for geriatric horses. Someone is causing problems and the local sheriff dept. is trying to find the culprit.
My Helluva Engineer series is a nod to my alma mater. The mineral engineers journey across the mountains to help find the gold mine that has recently started contaminating the Rockin' K ranch. Why it's started having poisonous runoff after two hundred years of dormancy, is the real question.
All my books are stand alone so you don't have to read them all or even in order, although it might be more fun to do so.
Join with me as I tell my stories, weaving real tidbits from my life in with imaginary ones. You'll have to guess which is which. It will be a hoot!
Cute story. This is the second book in this series. Just like book one, this was a steady paced book. The author does a great job with word building, scene setting, etc. I had a great picture in my mind of the ranch, mountains; all of it.
I enjoyed this book almost as much as the first, however the ending was not what I was anticipating; it was abrupt and lacked the grand gesture I assumed would be coming. I really expected more and when that ending came, I was disappointed. Other than those last few pages, I enjoyed the book and can't wait to read the next brother's story. The characters in these books are endearing and you just can't help wanting to make sure they have their happy endings.
Rachel is visiting the ranch to help her best friend Alyssa plan her up coming wedding to Beau. In addition, Rachel will be photographing just about everything. Since she will be staying at the ranch for three months, she has plenty of time to take all the photos she wants. And there is also plenty of time to fall for the oldest Kipling brother, Adam. Adam was portrayed as a stick-in-the-mud, by -the-book type of guy. Despite being gorgeous, well-built and his smile could bring any woman to her knees, Adam's attitude was not attractive. There were several moments where Rachel had to put him in his place. I enjoyed those moments very much.
I don't want to go into any details because once Adam decides he can't fight his attraction to Rachel any longer, things progress quickly, get a bit angsty, and then resolve quickly.
Do I recommend this book? I do. I especially recommend it to those that love cowboy romances. Taming Adam was a sweet story with very little in the way of angst or suspense. There were a few issues of suspense but they were resolved without drama. All in all, a cute story.
This is my honest and unbiased review. Thank you for taking the time to read it. :)
4.5 STARS This book was kindly sent to me by Give Me Books PR in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Saddle up, grab your camera bag, and get ready to explore a Colorado ranch with a grumpy but swoony cowboy.
Oldest Kipling sibling Adam is still on the fence about Beau and Alyssa’s relationship, even though they’re engaged and the wedding is only a few months away. Despite everyone around him being excited and happy for the couple, he just can’t get on board with the seven year age gap and thinks Beau is making a mistake. Enter Alyssa’s best friend Rachel, who’s staying on the ranch over the next few months to help with wedding preparations and work on her photography. He can’t deny that he’s attracted to her, but with a nine year age gap and the responsibilities of being the oldest sibling, he knows it’s silly to even entertain the idea that anything could happen between them. He needs someone mature to stand by his side and Rachel isn’t the one. As he flips back and forth between nice to her and being cold to keep her at arms length, Rachel easily puts him in his place about treating her like a child. Adam’s internal struggle isn’t enough to stop him from getting a taste and giving into their mutual temptation, even though he knows anything with Rachel is only temporary before she leaves Colorado at the end of summer.
Yes. YES. YES! Adam and Rachel’s story was such a great follow-up to Beau and Alyssa’s, particularly because the latter couple also feature quiet heavily throughout this installment. Adam was an interesting character in book one, so it was fun to get into his head for his own story. Rachel too, from what we briefly saw of her, seemed like such a fun character, so again I loved getting to see more of her. The pair had great grumpy/sunshine chemistry, with lots of sweet and a few spicy moments throughout the book, although it was a tad more slow burn than the first book.
Although Adam and Rachel’s story was similar to Beau and Alyssa’s - Adam not wanting a relationship because of their age difference, and Rachel only staying on the ranch for a short period of time - Shirley made them both interesting stories that didn’t feel repetitive at all. Adam and Beau are really similar characters, so it was only natural that both would struggle with the same issues when it came to dating someone younger than them, only this time Adam not only had to overcome the issue for himself, but also in regards to his opinions on Beau and Alyssa’s relationship.
Once again, Shirley absolutely killed it with the writing and world building. I felt like I was exploring the beauty of Colorado along with the gang, and I really enjoyed not only getting to see more of the ranch, but also the surrounding area. I’d 100% be Rachel snapping photos of EVERYTHING, and making each journey ten times longer than it needed to be just to stop and take photos every five minutes. Shirley’s writing style is just so easy to read and I can’t wait to continue on with the series, getting to learn more about these characters and exploring more of their world.
My only complaint? I was left wanting more! I felt like that the ending was a tad rushed, although it still concluded everything nicely. Obviously, Adam and Rachel’s story will continue through the rest of the series, just like Beau and Alyssa’s will, so I’m excited to see more of them while getting to learn more about the rest of the siblings.
Start packing a bag for Colorado to find a ranch of swoony cowboys! This is definitely the place to start if you’re looking to get into the world of western and cowboy romances.
A cowboy and a photographer ride into a picture perfect relationship romance--if what your looking for is hot, steamy, and explicit (warning!).
Adam is the oldest brother on the Rockin K ranch, and he doesn't believe in May / December romances. In fact, he's quite upset because his little brother is marrying a woman seven years younger. As if to punish Adam for his judgemental ways. Rachel, the wedding photographer, comes into his life. He can't take his eyes off her, despite knowing she is nine years his junior. To make matters worse, she wants him as well.
I freely admit that I have a soft spot for an age gap romance and for gatekeeper characters and this book checked both those boxes for me. Adam was gruff, older, responsible and honorable. I loved how he was so firm in his beliefs and with who he thought he was, at least until Rachel comes along. Rachel was younger but she was confident, sassy, strong and able to go toe-to-toe with Adam. Of coarse there is plenty of emotional turmoil and tension as you watch their unexpected attraction blossoms into a deep, lasting love. This is my impartial, independent review.
Knowing how much flack Adam gave Beau, this story should be interesting. Oh, I was right. Alyssa jumped over a cow to get to Rachel in her car. Oh goodness, Adam is a hoot as Rachel's car is unloaded. What happens the day of the photo shoot? When Adam goes out for a ride before a conference call, something happens. Why does he get upset with Rachel and Alyssa? Who is Nate and why is he mentioned in this story? What is going on that they begin wondering if he is behind things? I think the best lines of the book come in the kitchen. ""No, but you can't show mama, 'cause she'll see the to-nado mess." Tony drew pictures with his finger in the flour coating the counter." I learned just how popular Alyssa is in this book as the wedding is planned. What happens when Rachel spies the drone with her camera? What do we learn? I laughed long and hard when things went to hades in a handbasket for the drone operator! Enjoy the read!
RECEIVED THIS BOOK AS A GIFT FOR A FAIR/HONEST REVIEW and REVIEWER FOR Bloggin' With M. Brennan.
This is the second book in this series and is Rachel and Adam’s story. This is a well written story which is realistic, fun, entertaining, emotional, humorous, and will a tad mystery. I look forward to reading more from this talented author, whose work I highly recommend for all.
Amusing to see a hardened man fall to his knees for a younger woman who fills his structured life with laughter and lovin'. Adam Kipling has always taken the role as oldest very seriously and when his brother became engaged to Alyssa the Veterinary Intern he wasn't sure it was a good match because of the age difference. When Rachel, Alyssa best friend comes to the ranch to stay for three months - well needless to say she throws him for a loop. Can these two admit their feelings for one another or will this be a fantastical three-month affair?
Adam is the oldest and helps run the ranch, hot and cocky, he knows what he wants in life and what he doesn't. And one thing he doesn't want is the attraction he has to his soon-to-be sister in law best friend Rachel. Rachel is on the ranch to take engagement pictures of her best friend and fiance as well as her graduation pictures. What she doesn't want is the attraction she has to Adam. Adam doesn't agree with Beau marrying Alyssa he has issues with the age difference thing, but then now he has his own dilemma. She just wants to take pictures and get back to her life what she doesn't expect is to have feelings. Now, these two will fight the attraction, but it will be up to Adam to get over his issues can he before he loses the one woman who has made him feel something in a long time?
I enjoyed Adam’s story, he took his responsibility as the oldest to the highest level and when Rachel shows up it shakes his foundation. Rachel may be younger than Adam but she is strong, knows what she wants and he doesn’t stand a chance. I loved their banter and chemistry that turned to love. It was fun to watch Adam change his way and be able to find a HEA. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
3 1/2* Adam isn’t fully convinced of his brothers relationship with Alyssa but when her friend Rachel visits for her graduation and engagement he realises he may be wrong. Rachel isn’t sure about Adam he seems so serious but is she reading him wrong? A little rushed at the end but another lovely story.
Now I read the series one after another. They are good reads and it's about cowboys !!
Now it's the plderest brother turn Adam and he got a firecrack girl. Rachel is best friends to Alyssa and she going to photograph the wedding. Adam is the typical guy ticks everybody but his attitude nope. Then Rachel come along and says you can't say that. As true to the tiltle she did tame her Cowboy and its safe to say her also tamed her 😉
Ms Penick is a master at developing characters you can believe in and care about. Adam is the oldest and feels responsible for the decisions made by his siblings - especially when his two year younger brother is about to marry a gal seven years younger than him. Then Adam meets Rachel who is nine years his junior.
This one is about .Adam and Rachel. But read every book in any order. Funny heartfelt scenes e can Coolly the cow. Loved evening minute of every book I read
I am not one who normally reads romance novels but I could not put this down. I did not read the Burlap and Barbed Wire stories in order so it was interesting reading about the characters and knowing what was in store for them.
Adam is the eldest of the Kipling sons. He carries that responsibility on his shoulders and in his heart. He puts his family duty at the forefront of his life. But having to be around the very beautiful Rachel, the best friend of his future sister in law, is not going smoothly. He's a bit gruff when he wants to be charming but wars with doing what's right.
Adam is another character that Penick has put thought into developing. Yes, he's the sexy Hero but he's steadfast and true. You learn that Adam is a man of substance. He's faulted, a bit set in his ways but underneath it all he's a true man and a gentleman. Rachel is a bit young but she's what a present day heroine has evolved into...strong, confident and willing to allow herself to take charge and take chances.
This is an incredibly charming love story that seeps into your heart. Lust is instantaneous but love creeps in softly and slowly. We watch as the couple slowly work into a real relationship. This couple shows us that sometimes the journey is worth the fall.
As the oldest son he feels be needs to be perfect. Rachel comes to help her best friend planher wedding and falls in love with Adam. He can't seem to commit.
Unfortunately this was so badly written… not nicely written and they story was quite silly and slow. More about the main characters best friends wedding the main characters themselves.
This was a great storyline. He thought he was to old for her and she just wanted him to so her to stay. Luckily a little help from a wise Grandpa brought him to his senses before it was to late. Narration was awesome.
Good read, but I liked the first book more. I never understood why Adam was so dead set against the age difference. The end was quite sudden, I was a little surprised by that.
