'Dinosaur Explorers Vol. 3: Playing in the Permian' by REDCODE and Albbie is a graphic novel about a group of time travelers and the strange creatures they run across.

In this volume our young explorers are in the Permian Carboniferous eras. In the first set of adventures, that brings them in contact with giant bugs like centipedes. In the second, they find a small creature that has hatched from an egg and they try to reunite it, and run in to all kinds of trouble. In between chapters, there is a lot of educational articles about the era and creatures.

The adventures are suitably silly for young readers. The facts are good, if perhaps a bit dense for younger readers. The art has a manga style that is fun (along with the Pokemon and Alien jokes).

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from Papercutz and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

Not for me, but feel free to come here for an awkward mix of unlikely, trashily kinetic manga action where people refuse to shut up bickering, even when very much part of the prehistoric food chain, and scientific bits. The number of pages with zero female characters on could be of concern to some, too – it seems only punky lads like adventuring.

I really do love the facts that are given throughout this series (and I loved seeing the Dimetrodon!), but I am not a fan of the storyline or any of the characters.

Bold images, eye-catching colors, and a mingling of text and iillustrations that entertains. I would readily share this book with young readers.

Dinosaur Explorers Vol 3: Playing in the Permian continues the adventures of the Dinosaurs Explorers. Still trapped in the past, their jumps through time have brought them to the Permian. The first Permian jump lands them in the Carboniferous, the Age of Insects, as Dr da Vinci says. Exploring the territory lands the boys in a cave full of giant spiders. They escape using massive dragonflies, and have run-ins with titanic millipedes, centipedes, and roaches. The next jump brings the gang to the late Permian, where they find a Dimetrodon egg. It hatches and they attempt to find a family for the little fellow. Doing so leads them into confrontations with other denizens of the era like Eryops and Icthyostega, among others. The book ends with them still stuck in the past. I love this series! I'm sorry to have missed the second one, but am looking forward to the next one! Dude, giant spiders are in no way, shape, or form acceptable. I have to agree with Sean here. Even though I like insects, and tolerate spiders… just not okay. Nope. I quite enjoyed seeing creatures that are in my Jurassic World game, and learning more about them in-depth. Perfect for the budding paleontologists in your life, or any who love dinosaurs and prehistory.à

***Many thanks to the Netgalley and Papercutz for providing an egalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.
