Something about Cranberry farm attracts me to this cozy series! It's harvest season in Cranberry Cove and also Monica and Greg’s wedding. After the wedding, while on a walk, Monica and Greg found a drifting boat from Cranberry Cove Yacht Club marina, and inside is dead a body. It turns out that the dead person was a guest at their wedding.

This was a very quick listen (6 hours) and is a nice change from darker mysteries. Unfortunately, I enjoy the dating phase more I think.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

I am so happy to return to Cranberry Cove and just in time to celebrate Monica and Greg’s wedding. It was quite a gathering. Unfortunately, the honeymoon gets off to a rocky start when they discover a dead body. When the man is flipped over they see it was one of the guests from the wedding, the husband of Monica’s friend from college. Bruce seemed to have more than a few enemies including some ticked off women he has left in his wake. But the police seem to be concentrating on his wife, Andrea. Monica has a hard time believing her friend is a killer and Monica has begged for her help. She has promised Greg her sleuthing days are over, so she makes her reasons clear to him. promises to be careful, and sets her sights on catching the killer or at least point the police in another direction.

I have really enjoyed this series and am so glad it lives on with a new publisher.

Typically cozy mysteries are 280 – 300 pages. This one rings in with just 184 pages but this author packed them full. All the characters I had grown to love are back and Monica has hired a new assistant to work with her in the farm kitchen. Kit works well on his own, he has even created a new recipe. This gives Monica more time to chase down clues, while still having enough tasty treats baked up to sell in the farm store. I wish the book included free samples, but we have the next best thing, recipes at the end of the book.

The pace was quick and the story is very well-written. There are plenty of suspects but I was tracking the culprit much sooner than Monica. The subplots of Gina and her man troubles, Jeff and Lauren’s wedding plans, and the cranberry harvest twist into the main plot nicely.

I love this author’s very descriptive writing style. She doesn’t just tell us a story, she takes you there. It is so easy to escape to Cranberry Cove and catch up with all the town happenings.

Fun characters, a well-plotted mystery, romance, and cranberries. You just can’t go wrong with a book by this author. I have been delighted with everything I have read by her.

I was thrilled to see that the Cranberry Cove Mystery series was given new life by Beyond the Page Publishing. This is one of my favorite series, by one of my must read authors, Peg Cochran

One of the best installments yet, BERRIED AT SEA had me rooted to my chair. I read this book in one setting, drawn into the joy of Monica and Greg being married, the excitement of the murder and whodunit, and finally the surprising reveal.

Great writing, love, mystery, and recipes. I couldn't ask for more from a cozy mystery than what Ms. Cochran delivered in, BERRIED AT SEA.

I loved the other books but this one was a disappointment. It leads you into too many directions. The storyline was weak. Why was Acme shorting the supplies?

This was a bit of a letdown. Maybe because a lot of the book was focused on relationship growth between the newlyweds and not on the mystery. It wasn’t as compelling as I’m used to from this series.

Berried At Sea is the fourth book in the A Cranberry Cove Mystery series.

I was very excited when I heard that the series was able to find a new publisher to bring us more interesting stories in this wonderful series.

Monica and Greg have just been married and are on their way to the Cranberry Cove Yacht Club for their reception. A good time is being had by everyone and the newlyweds are enjoying greeting and talking with their friends and neighbor. The joyous times are interrupted by the yelling of a man. Monica notices that it is Bruce Laszlo, a “summer resident” and husband of Andrea a college friend of Monica. Monica excuses herself to go freshen up and runs into Andrea in the ladies room, where Andrea apologizes for Bruce’s behavior. As Monica is returning to the reception she overhears an argument between Andrea and Bruce.

After the reception ends, Monica and Greg begin what they expect to be a romantic walk along the lakeshore. Soon they notice a boat adrift near the shore and on there way back the boat is still adrift. Greg wades out to pull the boat to pull the boat up to the shoreline and secure it. When he looks into the boat he finds the body of Laszlo.

The next day Andrea goes to see Monica and asks her to help find out who killed her husband. Monica reluctantly agrees to help Andrea to find Bruce’s killer. Monica wants to believe that Andrea is not the killer, but still, she had heard them in a heated discussion the night before. Monica soon learns that Bruce had heated arguments with neighbors on either side of his home. In addition, the year before Bruce had won the Cranberry Cove to Chicago sailboat race. The winner of the previous 5 or 6 races, Alton Bates, had heated words with Bruce about cheating during the race. Monica is hoping that the police can quickly find the killer so she can go back to enjoying her newlywed.

Fortunately, Monica has Kit Tanner to ably handle the baking needs for the farm store and Nora to handle sales at the farm store while off doing her sleuthing.

This was another well-plotted and told story with believable characters that you would like to be friends with.

Delicious recipes are also included.
Anxiously awaiting more books in this delightful series.

This is the fourth book in the Cranberry Cover Mystery series and I found it to be an enjoyable read. This series is set in my home state and I love how the author does a terrific job of capturing the feel of the location as well as the small town on the shores of Lake Michigan. Ms. Cochran writes a charming story giving the reader a balance between the new marriage of Greg and Monica as well as the mystery. Now that Monica is married, she weighs how her husband will react with her penchant for solving mysteries with the actions she takes to solve the mystery. I love the quirky characters that live in Cranberry Cove and they round out the story nicely. The mystery was woven throughout the story and comes to a climatic conclusion. I enjoyed this story and if you are a fan of this author and/or series I think you will enjoy it as well. It is a series, however, that I would recommend you read in order so you can see the growth of the characters.

Monica irritated me with all her running around asking strangers questions (that they answered! Who invites a complete stranger into their home when they come knocking on the door and then tells that stranger all about their personal life?) She kept leaving her business and not getting any work done. She lies to her brand new husband, saying she isn't investigating when clearly she is--and when he finds out (and she gets into the expected tight situation at the end) he doesn't even get upset with her for lying to him? And it was very sloppily written with numerous obvious errors, the most glaring one at the end when Monica and Gina arrive separately in their own cars somewhere and then when they leave they go together in Monica's car!

Berried at Sea by Peg Cochran is the 4th book in a Cranberry Cove series, and another fun addition. I really enjoy this series, but this book is my least favorite of the 4 so far. Monica and Greg are getting married during harvest season. When the husband of an old college friend dies, Monica sets out to find the killer. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I recomended this book and series for any cozy mystery lovers like me.

Out protagonist is Monica Albertson. When this story opens, Monica is getting ready to marry Greg. The wedding goes off without a hitch until one of the wedding guests turns up dead the day after the ceremony. Inquisitive Monica just can't help getting involved in trying to find out who committed the murder.

Monica is smart and comes across as a natural in asking questions and following clues. I love that this is set in a small town on lake Michigan! The story moved along quickly and there was never a dull moment.

This is book #4 of the Cranberry Cove Mystery series. While it worked well as a stand alone, I think there is good cause to go back and read the other three books. I also want to read future books in this fun cozy series.

I don't think I care for these books anymore, if I ever did. Snoop if you have to Monica, don't lie to your husband about it. This is such a stupid hill to die on. I also have massive issues with incessantly moaning about feeling guilty that you're leaving all the work to your employee but doing nothing about it. Give your employee a raise at least.

This is a pretty fast-paced cozy mystery. I haven't read any of the previous books in the series, but I didn't feel like this book referred to too many details from previous books, other than minor things with some recurring characters. Other than that, the book stood well on its own. The pace of the story seemed abrupt at times, switching to new situations or new conversations pretty quickly with no smooth transitions between scenes or settings. It's also a clean read. I didn't feel like the solution to the murder was unexpected or that there were any real twists to the story. Also, there are two recipes included in the back of the book. I expected there to be several more, based off the amount of recipes/food dishes mentioned throughout the book, so I was a bit disappointed to only find two. I would have loved more of the cranberry dishes mentioned. I am looking forward to trying the cranberry apple cake!! If you like light cozy mysteries, this is a series you would probably enjoy!

This is one of my favorite series. I love the books. This was was good, but not my favorite. I was able to guess the killer pretty much right away and it didn't keep me quite as enthralled as the others.

Monica and Greg are tying the knot (this was a little rushed, I feel like it could have been drawn out another book) and Monica's friend, Andrea has come to celebrate, unfortunately she also brought her obnoxious and boisterous husband, Bruce. The morning after the wedding Monica and Greg are taking a stroll along the water when they find a boat carrying Bruce's body. Andrea becomes the main suspect and she makes Monica promise to help her find the real killer. A lot of the story focuses on Monica's newlywed feelings and her stepmmom's boy drama, which is fine but I missed the other charcters that we have seen in the previous books.

Berried at Sea, the latest (4th) installment in Peg Cochran's Cranberry Cove Mystery Series, had me guessing the identity of the murderer right up until the denouement - which is quite rare for me! Monica and Greg are finally married and enjoying their honeymoon when they stumble across a murdered man during a walk on the beach - a man who just happens to be the husband of Monica's old friend, Andrea. Monica is quickly enlisted by Andrea to find the murderer and clear her name, which she must do without rocking the boat of her new marriage. Nicely written, and yummy recipes included. A+

It often takes a few books to really get into the groove of a cozy series, and normally they get better as they go along. This one, unfortunately, seems to be getting worse. The characters are completely flat, shallow, and charmless, and the narrative is written more as if it’s aimed at young readers. This one is the worst yet, and comes off about as complex as an episode of Scooby Doo, and I’m sorry, but the choices the characters make are completely idiotic. And the motivation for the killer to have taken out the victim was absolutely asinine.

It also annoyed me that Monica was lying to her newlywed husband, and he didn’t even care when he found out, even encouraging her to do so despite the possibility of her nosiness getting her killed. I’m sorry, but hubby Greg is about as deep as a Ken doll. Also, there was a big deal made about ACME shorting their bakery supplies, and then she finds out another restaurant owner is also being shorted. And it’s such a big deal, then…nothing. No more mention of shorted supplies. Why bother building it into the story then? And she is NEVER actually at the bakery doing her job. She leaves it to her employee, who definitely deserves a raise. I know how much of a time investment it is to supply that amount of baked goods and other supplies such as salsa, and it’s not even close to possible to do it the way she is.

It also bugged me that when Monica and Gina are running from the killer, it didn’t occur to EITHER of them to have a cell phone on them. That would be the first thing I would think of if I were putting myself in harm’s way, yet it seems to be a common plot device for the characters in cozies to forget/lose their cell phone, or have a consistent quirk that they always forget to charge it. Gina even makes a big deal about taking time to get her purse out of the car before running straight for an abandoned warehouse as they’re pursued by the killer (DUMB), then she realizes MUCH LATER that her phone has fallen out of her purse in the car. And despite the fact that they’re actively pursuing the killer, neither of them bothers to call the police from their car where they presumably BOTH have phones. These women are too stupid to live.

As a regular reader of cozy mysteries, one has to accept that there is a certain formula that they all follow. But this series has oversimplified the formula, to the point of being trite, predictable, and wholly unsatisfying. It was obvious at the beginning of the series that Monica and Greg are the intended love match, but there’s absolutely no investment on the part of the reader to root for them, as they have absolutely no adversity to overcome. They meet, they fall effortlessly in love, and by the end of book 3, they’re engaged, and married at the beginning of book 4. They’ve known each other for barely a year at this point. In Berried at Sea, the intended victim is blatantly obvious at the start, as he is literally the ONLY intentionally unlikable character in the story, and the plot then unfolds in a completely predictable and unchallenging way. It’s all spoon-fed to the reader, with absolutely no heart or grit to invest ourselves in, and no plot complexity to keep us guessing. By the end of the book, I honestly didn’t care who killed the victim. None of these characters are particularly likable, though, as none of them have enough of a personality to make them even remotely interesting.

Berried at Sea by Peg Cochran is the fourth novel in A Cranberry Cove Mystery series. Monica Albertson is marrying Greg Harper in Cranberry Cove, Michigan. Monica recently ran into her old college friend, Andrea Bowman in town and invited her and her new husband, Bruce to the wedding. She soon regrets inviting Andrea and her boisterous, disagreeable husband. Bruce is later found dead in a boat washed up on the beach by the newlyweds. An upset Andrea stops by Sassamanash Farm to ask Monica to use her sleuthing skills to track down Bruce’s killer. It turns out that Bruce was not well-liked and there are a number of people who are not saddened by his death. Monica has barely begun her deep dive when Andrea is arrested. She knows Andrea is innocent and intends to prove it. Who disliked Bruce enough to kill him? Monica wades through the suspect list and the clues to reveal the killer.

Berried at Sea is nicely written, easy to read and has a good pace. It is much shorter than the previous books in this series. I like the characters in A Cranberry Cove Mystery series. They are well-developed and likeable. I like the addition of Kit Tanner, Monica’s new baking assistant. It is a good thing she hired him since she spent little time in the new kitchen. There are plenty of cozy moments (cooking, chatting, spending time with friends, and lovey dovey moments) as Monica gets married and settles into life with her new spouse. She is happy to spend time with her new hubby and is not particularly interested in sleuthing (that’s a change). Of course, Greg would prefer she not get involved. I do wish there had been more on the wedding (I felt shortchanged). It was interesting to find out about cranberry harvesting. The mystery was straightforward, and readers will have no problem identifying the culprit. You do not need many clues to figure it out (armchair sleuths will probably peg the killer without any assistance). Monica spends time questioning suspects, but there is little action until the end. The dominant feature of Berried at Sea is romance with the mystery far off in the horizon. Monica must also spend time consoling Gina. Jeff and Lauren are working on their wedding. Lauren keeps changing her mind about details. She was still dithering about her colors at the end (we will have to wait and see). Monica and Kit have noticed that groceries are missing. At the end, Monica believes she has stumbled upon the solution. I wish the author had fully resolved this storyline. I am giving Berried at Sea 3 out of 5 stars. I felt that it was not as good as the previous novels in this series.

BERRIED AT SEA finds Monica and Greg’s wedding upon us, and Monica embroiled in yet another murder investigation when her college friend Andrea’s disruptive husband Bruce is found dead by the newlyweds and Andrea is the prime suspect. Of course, there is no shortage of suspects, and Monica searches to clear her friend’s name.

Most of this installment covers the day to day dealings of the characters, and the murder mystery is almost an afterthought. Still interesting and enjoyable to read, especially if you like the characters from previous books, but I wish there had been more about the wedding itself and the investigation. Bruce’s killer was far too easy to identify. There is a new recurring character and all the cranberry farm details one has come to expect from the series.

After the recent culling of cozy mysteries by a popular publisher, I was excited to see the Cranberry Cove Mystery series picked up by Beyond the Page. BERRIED AT SEA is not my favorite of the series but still entertaining. It can be read as a standalone, but I would suggest reading the prior books. Recommended to fans of the series and cozy readers who don’t mind a less emphasized mystery.

I received and ARC of this title through Net Galley and voluntarily shared my thoughts here.

3.5 stars, rounded up

It's been a while since I read anything from this series, so I had to reacquaint myself with the setting, the characters and the events that happened in previous books. Fortunately, that didn't take long, so I was able to pick up the story soon after starting the book.

I like that the background of the series is a cranberry farm, and have learned a bit about it from each book. Monica, the MC, and her brother Jeff work well together, and they have good people around them for support and help when needed.

The murder victim in this story was new to town, so nobody knew much about him except that he was a nasty guy. The initial list of potential suspects was short, and it didn't grow much as the investigation progressed, making it easier to focus on the people most likely to have committed the crime. I started to put the pieces together a bit before Monica and the police did, but I wasn't sure about the killer or the motive until the confrontation scene, which kept me listening until it was resolved.

I have the next book from this series in my audiobook collection, and I hope to get to it before the end of the year, but I've been saying that about a lot of books, so who knows if that will actually happen? :)

Monica and Greg get married. While taking a walk along the beach on their honeymoon weekend, they come across a boat drifting at sea. Once they see the dead body of one of their wedding guests, they call the police.
Monica gets involved in the mystery when asked by an old college friend, whose husband was the victim. Greg would prefer Monica stay out of it because he doesn't want his new bride to be in danger.
I have followed this series since the beginning. I usually enjoy the well told story lines. But, I must say this story seemed rushed to me. I know about half way through who the killer was. I was also not happy that Monica put herself and her brother's mother in danger in a less than believable way.
I also felt what could have been a great story line was never pursued to a conclusion. Maybe it was concluded, but to me it didn't feel like the missing ingredients story line was finished.
I wish this story was as gripping as all the previous ones in this series. I still feel it's a good series, this particular story was just not as thought out as all the ones that came before. I have high hopes for the next one.

This is the first book that I have read from the Cranberry Cove mystery series. I think if I had read the previous books before this one, I would have had a better feel for the characters. As it is though, I just didn't find myself very interested in the characters for this series. It also seems like more and more lately, cozies are starting to focus more on a relationship and romance than on the actual mystery. I don't mind romance. It is actually one of my favorite genres, but I would prefer it not be the main focus of a mystery. When it takes away from the suspense and intrigue, I start to lose interest.

I did like the setting of this story. It is what originally made me interested in reading this book. I might go back and start at the beginning of this series to see if I feel any differently.

Well this was an easy read! This is the first I've read from this author. For me, the story had all the depth of a sheet of paper. The main character, Monica, was unrealistic and doing things totally unbelievable in her "investigations". Who would ever think to going knocking on the doors of neighbours of the dead man and question them about their relationship with the deceased, and realistically what normal person would ever consent to admit such a stranger into their home in the first place. A comment to the person she interviewed first was "So you were very angry..." and leaning forward, which is accusatory in nature. You could pretty well supsect who the killer was from the first time he was introduced very early in the book even though he was not on Monica's radar as a suspect through most of the book. I would say that overall the story reads like an old original young adult mystery from 60 years ago. If you still like reading those, and don't like to do any deep thinking about what is going on in the story, you might like this book. I've given the 2 star rating only because it was so fast a read and I was able to finish it.

It is harvest season in Cranberry Cove, Michigan and the perfect time for the wedding of Monica Albertson and Greg Harper. Among the guests at the wedding reception at the Cranberry Cove Yacht Club are Andrea Laszlo, Monica's old college friend, and her boisterous new husband Bruce. The next morning, Bruce is found stabbed dead in his boat by the newlyweds. Monica reluctantly agrees to help Andrea to find Bruce's killer. It's odd that Monica freely takes time away from her cooking business and her new husband to do her snooping. And the identity of the killer was not a surprise.

Book 4 in the series.

I was glad to see this series saved by a new publisher, but it definitely was not my favorite in the series. I understand that this was the "long awaited wedding," but there was just too much relationship and not enough cozy mystery. And what mystery there was was kind of easy to figure out.

This was a pretty quick read, since it was a fairly short novel.

I still like the characters and the setting of the cranberry bogs, I'd just like to see Ms. Cochran go back to focusing on the mystery. I read romances when I want romance, and cozies when I want more of a mystery.

The book opens with Greg and Monica’s wedding. After a night at the Cranberry Cove Inn, they go for a walk on the beach and find a drifting boat. On the boat is a dead man.
The dead man was her old college friend Andrea’s husband. Andrea is the prime suspect and asks Monica to investigate. Monica does so to the expense of her work at the farm store and kitchen.
At the end, she does some rather dumb things that put her and Gina in trouble. This is was what makes this book 3 stars for me. I love Cranberry Cove, Michigan. I enjoyed learning about cranberry harvesting. I enjoyed Greg and Monica’s wedding. I can’t abide the heroine doing dumb things when by the fourth book in a series she should be smarter than that. Take your phone and call the police when you see trouble, for heaven’s sake!

I read this series up to the 3rd book and was really happy to find there are more from the library. I got the audio version, unfortunately, it is narrated by someone I don't prefer to listen to.

The book itself is interesting, it kept my attention from dwelling on narrator's voice and ruin the book altogether.

I have never been to Lake Michigan and the way the author describe the place its as if I am there and seeing the scenes in my mind.

I would recommend the series, the description of a cranberry farm and the workings of a cranberry farm, is very interesting.

3 star is because of the narrator used in the audiobook otherwise it would have gotten 4 from me.
