The naked body of a young man is found as Provincetown prepares for Mates weekend, a popular leather fetish gathering. The police suspect a random murder, but Corey Shaw, brought in to help with the investigation, suspects it was an extreme BDSM session that went out of control. As he tours the town's dark dungeons looking for a murderer preying on young men, he becomes immersed in the local scene and discovers a side of himself he's never explored before. In a sea of muscular, leather-clad Masters and Slaves, he realizes hidden urges in an environment where every fantasy can be fulfilled, but he must set aside his sadomasochism desires in order to locate someone who takes the bondage fetish to the ultimate extreme. Can Corey find him before becoming a victim himself?

Alex Morgan was born and raised in western Oklahoma where he attended college and majored in chemistry and mathematics. Later, he moved to the Dallas area where he obtained his master’s degree and then a doctorate in analytical chemistry. He now lives in Baltimore. He is an avid reader, particularly mysteries, since being introduced to the Hardy Boys in grade school. After reading his first Agatha Christie novel, Murder on the Orient Express, in junior high, mysteries have been one of his biggest enjoyments. He has always enjoyed reading comic books and loves the super-hero genre just as much. Combining these two concepts, he has written two mystery novels prior to “Breathless”, in which he introduced gay, paranormal sleuth Corey Shaw. He is also the author of several gay erotica short stories published by loveyoudivine Alterotica.
WTF? A gay... bondage-loving... psionic police officer... with telepathy and telekinesis... who seems to be a submissive but keeps turning the tables on dominants and dominating them with questionable consent ... and who is investigating murders.
There is a bit of a cute side relationship, but the whole thing is completely ridiculous.
This was quite an odd one to read, because I came to it having first read the longer version. Safeword is the short story that led to Breathless - a dark and intense novella. While much of the plot is in the shorter version, it lacks the emotional intenisty of the extended story. This is still a very fine read, with much to recommend it, but I think Breathless is the stronger version and would recommend readers to pick up that instead.
Devoted Alex Morgan fans who want to see how the story developped, will very likely find the comparisson interesting.
The tale involves psychic cop Corey Shaw, hunting for a murderer at a bdsm week in Provincetown. Lots of kinky sex, lots of m/m action.
It's the same story as Breathless. So I give it the same number of stars. If you want to know what I think of this book, read my short review for the other one here: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...
I haven´t read a book where I almost instantly didn´t like main char for quite time. This book weren´t for me, bdsm part were ok, but Corey just is not someone I´d like to read more about.
This was really weird, I'm not sure if the author knows what rape is - he didn't seem to NOTICE that that's what his hero was doing. I mean, I like some quite dodgy books, but really. WTF?
