After turning himself in to Donny—the man pulling all the strings—Ryang-Ha is forced to confront his murky past. With little chance of escape, his only hope is to sow chaos among Donny's men, presenting the perfect opportunity for Chateau to break in and come to his rescue! But will she make it to Ryang-Ha in time, or will she end up another puppet on Donny's volatile stage?
Tne angst — aaahh Donny's people are a crazy bunch, that's for sure. And these two are quickly becoming one of my favorite ships ❤️️
⤏ What to expect: ∘ Manga ∘ Thriller/Mystery ∘ Action ∘ Romance ∘ Suspense ∘ Assassin x Bounty Hunter ⤏ Tropes: ∘ Enemies to Lovers ∘ Slowburn ∘ Man falls in love first ⤏ Trigger Warnings: blood, crime scenes, violence
What a cliffhanger from the previous volume! Guess, I was worried over nothing (for both Chateau and Indian!) But, yes, thanks G that Indian isn't dead! But yea, so many people paid for that tho. It's raining blood!
Wait, hang on, I'm kind of overwhelmed, so many things happened and so little time. Do you feel rushed? I feel rushed. But it's just getting better and I'm really loving it. By the way, why do you do Indian like that?! Seriously, I'm dying to read the information about him! Haha! He's my best boy here by the way! Haha!
Chateau is out to save Ryang-Ha this time, but will her presence help or hurt the situation? This was an action-packed volume that led to more questions than answers.
With Chateau living in a box and Ryang-ha captured by a motley crew of forces unknown, the situation looks dire, but there hasn’t been a death this story couldn’t reverse and a window it couldn’t smash to pieces.
The action’s good and I like some of the plot developments this time out - once more, however, this series seems to not have a particular goal in mind. I saw another comment elsewhere that this reads like a collection of action scenes that the author wanted to draw stitched together with a story and that has this series dead to rights.
Still, a stopped clock and all that. When it turns out that our Ryang-ha is a secondary identity stolen from this new organization it is, in fact, a pretty good reveal in a sea of nonsense. Narrative consistency aside, that’s a good twist.
Less so when the story walks back yet another cliffhanger in the dumbest way possible (spoiler: it involves a bulletproof plate where none should reasonably exist). Sigh, it’s so hard to take any of this seriously. I nearly barked out loud when the author states that this is supposed to be set in our world. I wish - at least my commute might be more interesting.
Chateau also gets to have a couple of decent badass moments in here finally - she manages a very competent beat down and also rushes off to the rescue in about as flashy a way as she can manage (that’ll be fun in the anime, I suspect). Yes, she needs saving eventually, don’t worry.
The whole point of the gaggle of underworld weirdos on parade still eludes me. They have a father figure who has brought them together and they’re all quirky and in-fighty, but to no particular end that I can see.
Ah well, that’s this series for you. Style first and substance later, if at all. Ryang-ha gets to show off, Chateau gets to do something for once, all the narrative is totally nonsensical. Same as it’s ever been. It reads fast and has some fun and then leaves the brain.
3 stars - digestible mediocrity about sums this one up for me. When it does action it does it very, very well. Then when it starts talking it just keeps me checking my watch until the punches and bullets start flying again.
This author has made me care about the relationship between the main character and Song. I absolutely can girl when the two interact now. I need more of this series asap!
Today's manga post is on Love of Kill, Vol. 5 by FE. It is 162 pages long and is published by Yen Press. The cover has Chateau and Ryang-Ha on looking rough. As it is the fifth in the series, you need to have read the first four volumes to understand the story. The intended reader is someone who likes action series with mysteries at the heart of the story. There is mild foul language, no sex, and action violence in this manga. The story is told from third person close following Chateau and Ryang-Ha mostly. There Be Spoilers Ahead. From the back of the manga- After turning himself in to Donny—the man pulling all the strings—Ryang-Ha is forced to confront his murky past. With little chance of escape, his only hope is to sow chaos among Donny's men, presenting the perfect opportunity for Chateau to break in and come to his rescue! But will she make it to Ryang-Ha in time, or will she end up another puppet on Donny's volatile stage?
Review- Ryang-Ha is taken to the mysterious Donny, who seems to known the person who Ryang-Ha got his name from. The group is full of broken and dangerous people and they have questions for both Ryang-Ha and Chateau. Chateau is only getting more confused by Ryang-Ha and his actions, not that he is helping by explaining himself. This volume is mostly action with little plot or character growth but that didn't bother me as I think that this volume is setup for future growth in both plot and character. Chateau and Ryang-Ha are reunited at the end with enemies all around them and the only one they want alive is Chateau. Good hook for the next volume, so I'm looking forward to seeing what is going to happen next.
I give this volume a Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
Five volumes in and I still don't know how I feel about this series...? I think there's some central mysteries that are intriguing and the dynamic between the leads has a little Killing Eve flavor in terms of "deadly assassin unwittingly fascinated by other person, leading to an off-kilter relationship with a consistent thread of danger in most interactions." But maybe it's the fact that despite it being clear that the author is very fond of their characters, I still don't feel like I know them very well, especially Chateau. I feel disconnected from them. Maybe it's because so much of their history is ~a mystery~? But even their present interactions sometimes lack...chemistry or something.
It's not that I haven't had a fine time reading the series, it's just that there has yet to be that spark where I go from "this is fine" to "I have to fucking read this right now."
Generalized comments for 4 - 7 (and into 8) w/o spoilers. I was disliking how flat Chateau was coming off and the generalized damsel in distress aspect when she's supposed to be a trained body guard. I wasn't feeling the romance vibes, but was glad that the series was shaping up into a better story than the first volume initiated. Somewhere in these volumes, this became a 5 star series for enjoyability (but still with flaws). Chateau is still monotone, but she's consistently shown that way throughout backstory and the present. She's still more damsel in distress than bodyguard, but that's improving. The art gets noticeably better. I'm starting to see and feel a relationship growing between R & C, and the humor is integrated better. There are still gaping holes in the plot and storylines that seemingly dropped off, but things are coming together and I'm enjoying the overall story, twists, and action.
We are certainly getting a deeper dive into the shared history between Chateau and Ryang-Ha. But only slivers of information which does nothing if you're foaming at the mouth like I am! Do I love the line about Chateau wondering where he is because he always shows up and the inconvenient times and never when she needs him!!! BUT GUESS WHO SHOWED UP FOR HER!!!!!! My heart!! Also the little interlude comic of the boss loosing his mind is so funny!!
I enjoyed this volume! The action scenes are always great! However, I’m starting to get tired of characters’ “deaths” being the cliffhanger only for said character to miraculously survive in the next volume. Don’t get me wrong I don’t want Ritzland or Indian Guy to die, but how did they immediately survive kill shots like being stabbed in the neck and shot in the head???
wow, action packed once again, he got captured and we find out that he is not the real ryangha. I loved this volume, it's very intense and I am shocked every time something about one of the characters is revealed. oh and also Indian-kun (Jim according to mal), is alive, so hooray.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Volume started strong with Chateau finally kicking a bit of ass, and then it ends with her once again having to be saved. Has she done ANYTHING useful in five volumes of this series? Ugh.
Glad our boi Indo is okay.
Can't wait to learn more about our leads' backstories.
